James Page Finnegans Irish Ale
This beer definitely has it’s own flavor. Every once in a while I really get a craving for it, but alas, it is no longer available. THIS IS NOT A SUMMIT BREW. If you have had Summit’s Finnegan’s you are NOT drinking the same beer. James Page Brewing went out of business a few years back and their recipes were purchased by Steven’s Point Brewing co. Point actually sells a few of the recipes under the name James Page, just not this one.

The head was small and diminishing. There was not much aroma, but I liked the flavor. I will order this beer again!

Hazy Honey Coloring. Small Skin of White Head. Good Flavors Here and Definitly a Great Offering from Mr.Page. Lemony, Yeast...Not Very Balanced Overall.. But a Nice Flavor..Perhaps Just Not the Best Ending... Decent Brew Overall.

Page used to have a Potato Ale under their own labeling,(you have to read the fine print at the bottom to learn that it is "brewed, bottled, and supported by the James Page Brewing Co in NE Minneapolis, MN) and I have to wonder if this isn't exactly the same. Actually, I wonder why you would want to make an ale with potatoes! In the mid'90's, the Augsburger Brewery had a billboard campaign featuring art by cartoonist Charles Burns. One featured a brewer in a field holding a spud, with the slogan "NEVER made with potatoes!" But these folks are right up front with it! "A charmingly smooth pale amber ale brewed with potatoes." Amber color is right, with a small, plain head, and no aroma to speak of. After that, it's alarmingly lame. Short finish, light body, no hops, little malt...I wasn't terribly pleased. Is it smooth? Yes, to a fault. Charming? Eh, I don't know... I still don't get the potatoes. Yesterday, I visisted a reputable local brewpub and tried their Potato Stout. They just don't belong in beer! What's next, radishes? Rutabaga? Rhubarb?

Brewed and bottled by Summit Brewing. Virtually no aroma at all, maybe a faint wet graininess if I try really hard. Some decent caramel malt flavor, some hop bitterness, clean and vaguely pleasant, but I'd like at least a little aroma.

Hmm...The "finnegans" i purchased was brewed by Summit, not James Page, but perhaps there are transactions i am not aware of. This beer is quite tasty. It's light, creamy, malty and easily surpasses other "Irish" beers on the market. This beer is rather thin but quite well-balanced and drinkable. A solid 6 pack buy.

Sparkling clear, deep golden ale with a small, fizzy, white head. The aroma is a touch bisquity with notes of chicken broth. Lightly floral. The flavor is well-balanced but fairly bland and thin. Light-bodied with a watery mouthfeel and fizzy carbonation. Short, crisp, clean finish. Brewed with potatoes? Novel, I guess... the whole Irish theme.

On-Tap: Color is a hazy deep yellow, perhaps much like a hazy sunset over a lake, but not really, no head was served with it but there was a tiny white ring and some tiny spotty lace. Smell is a nice sweet and lightly zesty surge to it. Lemony light, yeasty, and a hard dry bread dough-like backing. Seems like easy paddling ahead. Taste is lemon citrusy and some light yeasty hold in the middle with a slight hop twinge and finishes a bit dry, a bit thin, but relaxed and firm with maybe to much malts making it uneven. The oars aren't doing there job right on this trip. Feel is lighter to medium bodied, light yeasty grain feel in the middle and throughout the swallow, leading to a light dryness. Maybe lost direction on where to go after making the turn at smell point. From the smell I thought for sure this would be at least a good voyage, but it comes up short of portaging to the next lake.

The first whif straight off the bottle reminds me of pot roast with those baby potatoes and gravy.Copper color, small head with the above for an aroma, with a malty side to it.The flavor is malty with a slight sweet taste and mild hops at best with maybe a hint of spuds. The after taste is sweet malt with a mild hop presence and maybe a starchy potatoe(maybe) this is a pretty decent brew and from the desc.goes for a good cause.Leave it to James Page to help the less fortunate when they themselves are a struggling craft brewer.

I'm not exactly sure this is the same Finnegans Irish Amber since the bottle says it is brewed by Summit, which of course is a local competitor to James Page. Just for the record the label on the bottle is brown and green and states it is brewed with potatoes. Also states "As Irish as it Gets!" However here is my humble opinion. Not much aroma at all. Very little almost non existant head. Poured amber color a bit darker than the picture with nowhere near that head. Flavor was very smooth and pleasant but not significant. Carbonation was not great but at least not entirely flat tasting. This at least warrants a try for a hot summer day. I'd drink it again but won't go out of my way to get any more.

Not a bad version of an English Pale, not over hopped like the typical west coast versions.

A kind-of nasty after-taste, but not too bad. James Page brews some good beer. This one is a keeper.

a step or two above Budweiser. I have a bias against any beer that comes in an aluminum can. This beer is a bit darker and carbonated. It presents with coarse carbonation, no head and a malt tone. No finish to speak of. An average ale.

Faint Aroma, nice amber color, but poor head retention. The head is even already dissapating in the photo on this page! However, this is a very pleasant brew, with a dry, subtle hoppy aftertaste with notes of creaminess. I could drink this all night.
