2.1 Whirra Calafate Amber ale with a thick rosey head. Berry aroma, with the same problematic wet dough aroma. In mouth, the berries makes this a very astringent brew, pungeant, metallic. 2.7 Whirra Negra Okay, firstly this is not negra (black) by any stretch of the imagination. The brewer uses 10% roast malt, to create something barely even pale amber in colour. I think he should think about giving it a name change. Secondly, it was really poorly presented, over carbed in a huge way, it was about 25% head, despite his rather elaborate 2 mug and spatula pouring technique. However, all that aside, it tasted really nice, heaps of caramel malt flavours, smokey and toasty with a nice hop balance. Wednesday, December 18, 2002 | |
