Cerveceria Whirra Reviews

Whirra Calafate
Amber ale with a thick rosey head. Berry aroma, with the same problematic wet dough aroma. In mouth, the berries makes this a very astringent brew, pungeant, metallic. Rather original use of the local fruit, but it may just be best to continue with the calafate liquor, which was the best product at the brewpub. On tap, May 2006.

Whirra Negra
Dark black beer with a lacing thick moka head. Light sulfuric dough aroma. In moputh, light chocolate with roasted coffee notes, and light bodied. The best of the 3 offerings. On tap May 2006.

Whirra Rubia
Light golden pils with a thick creamy white head. Wet dough aroma. In mouth, light bodid, with a light biscuitty malt and a bit too much herbal hops. Unbalanced. Not overly bad. On tap May 2006.

Whirra Rubia
Over-carbed, just like the ''Negra''. Unusual tutti-frutti aroma. Over hopped with cascades, but still had a nice biscuity malt flavour and a decent body.

Whirra Negra
Okay, firstly this is not negra (black) by any stretch of the imagination. The brewer uses 10% roast malt, to create something barely even pale amber in colour. I think he should think about giving it a name change. Secondly, it was really poorly presented, over carbed in a huge way, it was about 25% head, despite his rather elaborate 2 mug and spatula pouring technique. However, all that aside, it tasted really nice, heaps of caramel malt flavours, smokey and toasty with a nice hop balance.
