Meesters Galmaarden Kerst
(Bottle 33 cl) Damn, it doesn’t happen often, but this beer is utterly dead - well, almost dead. Deep, dark brown and very, very flat almost without any head at all. Fortunately there’s still a lot of flavour left. Roasted malt, dried fruit and some spices - coriander is there but also some "darker" more christmasy stuff. Probably would’ve been an excellent beer had it been fresh. 290998

Meesters Galmaarden Dubbel
(Bottle 33 cl) Reddish brown - actually more red than dark. A decent brownish head. Some roasted, malty notes with spicy touches. Rather unusual Dubbel as this is both sour and bitter - particularly in the finish. Has coriander and zewier added - whatever that is. 260298

BBD: 12/2003 - Hah! It’s a real one, not some blasted Huyghe wannabe Fully dark brown beer, with small, dirty brown, creamy head, reasonably stable. Very malty & chocolatety nose - though more like some chocolate Ersatz. Sweet coffee. Bit rubbery aroma - probably Michael’s "fruity old gym shoe". Dusty indeed. Taste is chocolate malt, and a ton of liquorice, but not its sweetness, leaning towards drop. Finishes sweeter, and yet drier. Apparent body is misleading, adjunct-like; behind it rather thin-watery, which is rather unsettling for a 9%ABV beer. Somehow, this beer is thinnish without age playing a role. It doesn’t taste as if it’s tired, it tastes as if it was born tired.

Clear dark amber with a medium light brown head. Fruit and malt aroma. Fruity, malty and chalky taste. Sweet start with a light bitter finish.
