Kodiak Island Kickstand
On tap at Tent City Taphouse, pours a barely hazy copper golden with a small beige head. Aroma brings out sweet caramel, overripe stone fruits, and resinous hops. Flavour is a bit messy, with an incoherent structure: there’s overripe stone fruits that’ve been largely attenuated out, resinous hops, and earthiness. Fairly muted on the finish. It doesn’t really come together. Haphazard but not terrible.

Kodiak Island Island Trails Spruce Tip Wheat Wine
Growler from LaBodega, pretty reddish amber veer, head disappears. Aroma is malt and peaches. Taste is malt, peaches, oak. Palate is actually medium, carbonation moderate. This is not what Im used to with barley wines, it's light and playful, not heavy and sweet.

Kodiak Island Night Watch Porter
Poured into a nonic pint glass, the appearance was a dark brown color with a semi-creamy colored sort of tan head. Nice looking stringy lace. The aroma had a big rich chocolate malt, sweet caramel and then some dark roast coffee beans. The flavor blended semi-sweet chocolate nibs to a mild caramel sweetness and a dry robust finish. On the palate, this one sat about a medium on the body with a velvety smooth sort of feel. Carbonation felt good. ABV felt appropriate. Overall, nicely done porter that I could have again if I found it.

Draft at GABBF, light amber beer, huge white head. Aroma is kombucha, lime, pale malt. Taste is peach, malt, black pepper, burnt plastic, citrus rind. Palate is light, carbonation average. The taste of burnt plastic ruins this for me, but makes sense considering it’s name. Pair with volcanic ash, and cancelled flights.

At 2015 GABBF. Pours a clearish copper color with a medium white head. A big fruity nose, pine and grains. The flavor is super sweet sugary base, tropical fruit, mango, oak, pine. Lovely beer. Complex. Usually not the biggest fan of wheatwines but this is a lot different.

Kodiak Island Sarah Pale
Ah, another APA I thought until Steve and I got to the bottom of this beer (growler pounding). This was poured into a pint glass. The appearance was a fairly nice pale golden yellow to orange color with a quick dissipating foamy white head and barely any lacing. The smell had a lightly bitter citrus hoppiness about it. The taste was pretty much the same with a smooth crisp aspect that sails right on into the aftertaste (slightly orangey). On the palate, this one sat about a light on the body with a decent sessionability about it. The carbonation was fairly subdued but okay for the style. Overall, only after I finished my two pints of this beer, I saw that its a Blonde ale, woops, okay, no worries, I thought it was an APA, well, uh...okay next time if there’s a next time I hope to do this beer its service as a Blonde Ale.

Kodiak Island Belgian Trippel
Reviewed from notes. Thanks for bringing a growler to share, Steve. We both poured it into chalices. The appearance was a nice glossy orange to amber with some light red tinges gracing the coloring of this beer. The head was about a finger’s worth of white foaminess leading to a somewhat speckled lacing all around. The smell had that nice "iced apple"-ness I usually get from a fair amount of Tripels I’ve had and that leads into a decent sweet sticky spicy coriander/citrusy aspect that is really nice. The taste was there - mainly spicy and sweet with that "iced apple" sort of conglomeration going on. I like it and honestly, I think that’s all that matters. On the palate, this one sat about a medium in body with a fairly decent sessionability about it. The carbonation was fairly subdued but honestly good for the style. Overall, I say this was a pretty good Tripel I could do again.

Kodiak Island Shelikof Stout
Growler from Steve. This was poured into a snifter. The appearance was basically a dark brown color with a one finger white foamy head that dissipated within about a minute leaving some light lacing running around the sides of the glass. The smell had a dark roasted coffee bean with a light chocolate in and out, light boozy vanilla enters in as it warmed. The taste was sweet and roasty with the chocolate and coffee combining wonderfully. On the palate, this one sat about a medium with what wanted to be sessionable but I found myself sipping it for the most part. The carbonation was there as it sat not too harsh but not too light, just good. Overall, this was a pretty good imperial stout to have again.
