Tap at Taphouse, Downtown Richmond. Hazy orange colour, medium-sized white head. Citrus, lemony aroma. Medium-bodied. Fruity, citrusy, grapefruit and lime but not too acidic. And nice to have Citra IPA which is not orange juice ipa.

Now called The Citrawation. Will make the alias later. Tap at brewery. Pours hazy golden. Aroma is pine, grapefruit hops, orange peel. Flavor is incredibly bitter right up front. Grapefruit peel, slightly juicy with ruby grapefruit. Pine in there too. This is solid. I gotta say decent beers here all around.

Extra Billy's Brown Ale
Tap at brewery. Pours brown with a soft off white head. Very floral hop aroma, quite nice, along with a little caramel. Flavor is roasted caramel malt, pine, fruitiness, licorice. This tastes more like a black IPA than a brown, though I just had the black IPA and it’s different. This is nice.

Extra Billy's El Jefe
From tap and growler fill during the release party at EBB. Pours a lightly hazy gold, good head. Aroma is banana ester heavy, slight wheat, slight clove. Flavor tends toward banana a bit, but is more balanced than the aroma. Quite pleasant, nice malt backbone. I prefer a slightly more aggressive yeast and wheat profile, but this was exactly what it was supposed to be, a lawnmower here, and I thought the malt was a touch better than the usual EBB My Only Weiss. Really nicely done.

Extra Billy's Hoptrick
Draft at brewpub. Happy to get down there again. Medium brown amber with orange highlights, slight haze, good head. Aroma is caramel and toffee accented malt with loads of citric and pine hops. Flavor is a match to the nose. Very nice balance between malt, hop, sweet and bitter. Very good beer, sort of toeing the line between an Imperial IPA and a normal IPA. Nicely done. Congrats to Dylan if he brewed this batch - I’ve had a number of his home-brews and have always been impressed. If this was one of Brandon’s outgoing brews, then it was a good way to move on, and cheers. Very happy to see the exponential improvement in the beer quality at EBB.

This is a well rounded IPA with a wonderful complexity and balanced with both citra and simcoe hops. The medium body ale has average carbonation. The finish was dry with a fullness that has you coming back for more. A winner.

Extra Billy's Kong Krush
Location: Draft at Mekong, 5/2/14

Aroma: The aroma of this one is citrus/grapefruit hops, melon, and a little pine
Appearance: This one pours a murky orange color with an off-white head and plus lace
Flavor: The flavor is medium sweet, with a good malt presence, and a tropical hop finish
Palate: Medium bodied, leaning light for the style, with good drinkability, and a clean, dry finish
Overall Impression: I have to say, I enjoyed this beer quite a bit. This is a nice example of the style and leans a little more toward the drinkable side compared to some of it’s higher ABV brethren. Worth trying for sure.

Growler shared by Willrunforbeer at RBNE gathering. Bright yellow color, large lasting head. Good lace. Aroma is dank as well as the flavor.

Flavor is pine, musty grassy, pith citrus rinds, light fruit, over ripe grapefruit and thick yeasty character. Chewy and sticky texture. Some lasting bitterness. Of course I maybe totally off; as at this point of the RBNE gathering I was rather drunk. Still glad I got it try this and I did enjoy it!

WillRunForBeer supplied. Many thanks! To oversized snifter, it pours a plush sparkling golden with a supportive ringed white head. Tastes and smells of minerals, hop extract, melted wax, and Bible paper. Candied citrus, newspaper, and cracked wheat by swallow. Warming. Medium-bodied and quaffable. Went done quite smoothly. Really was surprised by this one. Last beer of the night?

Keg @ Mekong. Light amber with a tight head. The nose is super sweet and sticky. Honeyed orange sponge cake. Battenberg cakes. Caramelized orange peel and brown sugar. The taste is pretty dank. Aggressive bitter tropical undergrowth. Underripe mango. Sticky grapefruit fruit leather. Orange pulp. Medium body, soft carb. A pretty big hop wallop. Good for what it is. Dumb fun.

Tap. This was super awesome. Super tropical, super clean, super not-resiny, all the factors that make up a fantastic ipa for me these days. Dry and crisp with very little sweetness, but still well balanced. Very impressed. Could have drank gallons of this beautiful elixir.

Draft at Mekong. Slightly hazy yellowish gold orange appearance, good head. You could smell the hops a foot away - literally. Floral and aggressive. Flavor has just enough of a biscuit malt backbone to hold it together, but overall this is an enamel scraping hop animal of a beer, with a field of aggressively bitter floral notes, with an almost baby aspirin powder bitterness on the finish. Despite that, amazingly drinkable, and really hit the spot. Liked it. Some time having hops rip your face off works.

Richmond Ratebeerians are falling off their game when I am the one having to add new brews like this one. This is a Mekong anniversary beer! An and Brandon decided to go hoppy here as opposed to Belgian, with awesome results. Medium to dark amber, nice head. Aroma is a hop explosion, loads of pine, pineapple, grapefruit, and some catiness. Flavor is a match, with a great biscuity malt background. Fantastic beer, shockingly drinkable, hope they keep doing this one.

Extra Billy's / Lickinghole Creek Continental Shift
Growler fill from Whole Foods, a collaboration between EBB and the very very soon to be opened Lickinghole Creek brewery out in Goochland. Medium to dark hazy amber, decent head. Big hoppy aroma, pineapple, slight pine, a hint of lemon, and some dank. Flavor is a match, with a good caramel and biscuit malt backbone to hold it together. Shocked that this was all Nelson Sauvin. Everything else I had ever had with this hop had been fairly light and rather lemony. This really showed what that hop can do. Nice. Really hit the spot.
