Mynediad Ysbyty 2 Year Vintage
Draught @ Post Office Vaults, Birmingham. Good to see these guys having a big cider selection now. This pours hazy yellow with a wincing sourness and an oaky woodiness shadowing behind. There is a tannin-rich fruitiness lurking underneath but it’s not as prominent as I’d like. Ok.

Mynediad Ysbyty Medium Cider
Polypin @ Southampton Beer Festival 06. A nice fruitiness starts this off with enough rounded acidity to keep me interested and a little chalk in the finish.

Mynediad Ysbyty Grab n Dab Cider
Real cider at Banbury Beer Festival 06. Orange gold colour no head. Big fruity appley cider, sharp and dry. Quite enjoyable though has a farmy aroma.

Mynediad Ysbyty Red Label Cider
From the barrel at GBBF, August 2005. Forgot to note down the ABV. A pleasant enough, pale gold coloured, cider. Rather dry, but doesn’t have a lot of farmyard character, not is it packed with fruit. So it comes over as rather austere and rather thin. Decent, but not a lot of fun.

Mynediad Ysbyty Red Label Cider
Cask GBBF 2005: Quite sweet and very dry. A good Cider for an aperitif. The sweetness is not overwhelming. A good cider.

Mynediad Ysbyty Red Label Cider
Labelled as Mynediøad Ysbyty Red Label - Sweet apple aroma is lightly musty and perfumey. Hazy golden blonde body is very still and wine-like. Somewhat minty, leafy and woody flavour with appleskin-like bitterness. Chalky mouthfeel coats the teeth. Barrel at GBBF 2005.

Mynediad Ysbyty Red Label Cider
From the barrel - GBBF 2005. A clear yellow coloured cider. The aroma is fresh and welcoming but seems to have more pear than apple fruit to it. The taste is dry and pulpy. It is a bit farty and not as crisp or clean as the aroma suggested. If anything too dry for my liking.

Mynediad Ysbyty Perry
Cask@Catford Beer festival. Apples and cheesy funk, sweetish, with a sour acidic edge, not quite my style, but always a bit of fun to try a true English country cider.

Mynediad Ysbyty Perry
From the barrel at Catford Beer Festival. After all the beers I needed, and a cider, time for a perry (about time we had a separate style for that on the site - it’s not really appropriate to enter them as ciders). The first challenge was pronouncing the name (apparently it translates from Welsh as "hospital entrance" - not too promising). The second challenge, at such a late stage in the proceedings, was writing my notes. The third, and hardest challenge, is reading them afterwards. Anyway, it was certainly a very pale colour - much like those commercial jobs with "White" in the name. Other than that, it was a very palatable and flowery perry that slipped down very easily (which perhaps is not what is needed for a 7% drink after 8 hours at a festival). Good stuff.
