From bottle in English pint. Pours murky yellow with thin white head and a decent whiff of ginger. Taste is a bit tart for a ginger beer, less ginger on the palate than others.

275mL bottle purchased in Montego Bay, Jamaica at Progressive Market. Holy shit, this smells like pine-sol. Literally. Literally Pine Sol cleanser. I can’t even come up with any other descriptors on this. Hazy white body that looks like coconut milk. Small, fizzy small white head. Quickly dissipating. Starts sweet, sugary, and piney. Light ginger spiciness later on. Finishes sweet and sugary. More Pine Sol late. Soft carbonation. Yeah, I imagine this tastes like Pine Sol, too.

I had it for the first time at a xmas day party the other day and I thought it was really good. So I bought a carton and drank it all day xmas day, it really washed down the prawns and king crab well. And with a 4.8% alc content per bottle, I didn’t really feel that I was effected by it as I would’ve had I drank the same amount of my normal choice of beer. Which can be a bit deceiving, you think you’re not drunk when you really are.... But it is very sweet, and a bit expensive. And needs to come in a slightly larger bottle. A cheap way I found is to buy a bottle of stone’s green ginger wine and add a dash to your normal beer, beautiful stuff. But it has to be cold, chilled cold.

330mL bottle. Pours a hazy pale straw yellow without much of a head. Smells like ginger! Pretty sweet, tastes mostly like ginger(!) with some other faint flavours that aren’t great and which I imagine are from the alcohol oriented brewing process. Fizzy and sticky, just like you’d expect from an alcoholic soft drink.

Have changed recipe from the looks of the packaging and taste, and it is a poor watery, non ginger shadow of it’s former self. Crap now really. Avoid it now unless you never liked it and want to try it now the recipe has changed.

Tis all gingery. I do like a bit of ginger beer so having alcohol in it makes it even better. IT’s a bit hard to compare it to other beers cause it tastes like, well, ginger. So in terms of all the standard beer ratings it’s a bit off the wall. So here goes: Aroma is great, all very gingery which overpowers anything else aside from the slightly metalic overtones (which could just be older ginger). Appearance is pretty shocking. It looks like traditional lemonade, so all very un-beer like aside from the cloudiness. Flavour is very much of ginger strangly enough. Ginger with a bit more ginger. A tad too sweet for me, so we need a dry ginger beer please stones. There is a slight lingering aftertaste which reminds of, hmmm, ginger I think. But after that theres a hint of something I can’t identify, but it lets you know you’ve had a drink with alcohol in it. It’s a kind of light soft handover breath that targets teh side of the tongue. Gawd. Overall though I like it and you could very eaily drink it without even noticing the alcohol which will make a favourite with the underage drinkers of Australia.

...hmmm, bottle no pour on the roader. Pretty clean, with a decent ginger flavor. Easy drinking, not overpowering, and I guess balanced for the most part. Finished ginger and dry. Wasn’t bad.

(Bottle 33 cl) Pours a cloudy greenish with only the tiniest white head - mostly looks like a lemon tonic pop. Sweet aroma of lemon and ginger. Light in body, very sweet and sugary with delicious ginger notes that leaves a discreet hot bite. No bitterness. Scaringly the alcohol is not felt at all, this really appears like a normal non-alcoholic Ginger Beer. 130208

Bottle. Cloudy white yellow with no head. Initially a reasonable ginger aroma. Lively carbonation and medium body. The flavour has some nice ginger bite but is very sweet. It’s initially refreshing, but way too sweet and this builds up to make it quite disappointing.

I guess I’ll just take thir word for it that this was alcoholic ginger beer. Bit sickly sweet, with a thoroughly processed soft drink feel. Probably seemed worse after tasting filthmuppet’s much more substantial home-brewed ginger effort several days previous.

Bottle. I couldn’t find a date on this thing but I would bet that the one I had had been sitting in that megafridge for a looooong time. Poured so cloudy with particulate matter that I was afraid I might get a yeast infection in my mouth from drinking it. Flavor was very ginger beer-typical meaning there was no surprise difference from any other alcoholic or non-alcoholic ginger beer. I don’t really know what else to say that would make you want to try this. It didn’t suck, but it should be last on your list if you are out to try new beers.

In the bottle. Pours cloudy white/yellow similar in appearance to the old soda pop known as "Wink." Ginger is the overpowering aroma. A very sweet flavor with the ginger emerging after the sweetness subsides. This has a long palate, but it is just way too sweet for me.

Bottle: I thought this was pretty nice, so I was surprised to see the other ratings for it. Oh well... Very, veryh pale yellow green. Nice fresh giner aroma with some sugar, citrus, and touches of floral notes. In the mouth a slightly dead malt note mid-palate took away from what would otherwise have been a refreshing, quenching ginger freshness. Some pleasant lingering citrus notes. Not too keen on the preservatives - couple of points off for that...

Thanks to Highlandlad for bringing this one up. I tasted it almost a year ago to the day after sampling a bottle of Blue Tongue’s Ginger beer. Couldn’t find it on the site and thought nothing of it as it was a mere soda in comparison to the better Ginger beers on the market. Notes were bleak so here goes:- Poured a cloudy palest lemony beige. Intermittent in carbonation but clearly charged before bottling as the bubbles that were present were huge and clung firmly to the glass. Generous, yet sharp and biting, ginger extract nose; overly sweet and sugary. Similar in the mouth and increasing with vigour; it was sweet to the point of being clammy. Harsh, prickly carbonation bit at the front of the tongue, but moved into a clammy mess before the swallow and the aftertaste was very long and sweet with feint notes of ginger root. This was the definition of one dimensional as all I got was sugar. It wasn’t awful, actually was easy to drink chilled, but it had to be downed quickly. (33cL, BWS Balga)

Tried this back in sept. last year with 3 other ginger beers. Pale light green body with no head to speak about. Sweet taste but not too heavy, ginger not too full on, this was probably runner up in the four that I tried. Refreshing enough and better balanced than a couple of the others, I just don’t think I would have more than one or two.

Stones Premium Alcoholic Ginger Beer
Bit of a curiosity: an alcoholic ginger beer brewed by an Australian winemaker under licence from the venerable Stone’s of London. The twist is that Stone’s don’t brew a ginger beer themselves, so at time of writing this is exclusive to Australia. The ingredients list includes flavours, food acid and preservatives, besides barley malt, hops and ginger extract, so expectations are modest. It poured a cloudy ’real’ lemonade colour. No head and very little visible carbonation. Classic mass-produced ginger beer aroma, thin and chemical, with some lemonade and ginger extract. Medium body but very syrupy sweet. The ginger gives it some genuine pep and mouth-prickle, but otherwise it’s like drinking a very dense solution of sugarwater. Way too sweet and syrupy for my taste. If I didn’t know this was alcholic, I’m not sure I would guess. (330ml bottle, bb 22/8/05)
