Črni Golf (2015-)
Whee, the new Golf, yay! With Varionica guys at the brewpub. It’s oh so visible what a positive influence they have been at the plant there. Murky brown body with a white head. Pungent, nice aroma, dark malts, light touch of banana. Soft, creamy malt taste, light light chocolate, a bit toasty. Dryish finish. In this form at this point when I’ve had it a flawless, nice little beer, which is great!

Črni Golf (-2014)
Dec ’14. On tap at the brewpub. Finally managed to get there, thanks Ruza! Beer was dark brown bodied, seemed maybe slightly hazy, with small brownish head. Caramel and sugar aroma, some toffee. Flavor was, accordingly, sweet, without bitterness of any kind. Caramel and sugar were dominating, simple as that. Lightly acidic, too. Medium to thin body with very smooth palate and shorter, sweetish finish. Utterly simple, but not bad, clean, easy going and without any faults. Okay.

Dark brown color, medium sized off-white head. Caramel aroma, taste is also caramel with some nuts. Thin to medium body, nice creamy texture, soft carbonation. Sweet finish. Actually, pretty decent dunkel. Thanks to Marko for sharing it at 2nd beer conference in Magic Beer Room.

Črni Golf (-2014)
Enormous thanks to Davor Š., Matija & Fran I think for bringing some of this handbottled to Zagreb, and Dinko for bringing another. So, first rate in 12 years, wow! Hotel Golf is, obviously, a hotel with a brewery, located by the Drava river in the Međimurje region, a bit out of the way, but known, kinda, for being one of those rare few places anywhere where gold panning is still done. So, yeah. They only do this beer, and it was available in the bigger towns relatively close to D.V. at first (Koprivnica, Varaždin), but 10 years ago or so they stopped that and it’s, as far as I know, only available at the hotel. From what I’ve heard, the brewer uses crazy amounts of gypsum (?!) and has a "less hops used = better" policy. So what does that give us?

The beer actually looks damn good. Very dark brown/black, with a lasting, medium sized creamy off white head. Mild caramelly aroma, quite creamy, mild caramelly taste, quite creamy, very, very soft, with, unsurprisingly, no hops to be detected. No aftertaste. So, kinda catering to the lowest common denominators, but they wouldn’t survive this long as a brewery if they hadn’t. I’d honestly expected worse - and allegedly it often is. Still damn thrilled to have had it. Shared it with several more raters that day - so the number of ratings should rise a little.
