3.1 Appleford Power Station Bottle (bottle conditioned) at London tasting, May 2008 (courtesy harrisoni). BBE July 2008. Presumably named after Didcot power station, which dominates (some might say blights) the view for miles around. Cloudy amber colour, with quite lively condition. Despite the claims floral hop aroma, I found toffeeish malt to be more prominent. Fairly bitter hoppy flavour, tending slightly towards sharp astringence. Mouthfeel is clean but a little fizzy, suggesting slight over-conditioning in bottle. As Hughie says this is a "straight down the middle" bitter, in a traditional style. Nothing wrong with that (in moderation), but this style of beer usually puts on a better display on cask than in bottle. Sunday, June 1, 2008

3.9 Appleford Brightwell Gold Cask conditioned at Merton Winter Beer Festival ’08. Gold with white head. Quite a decent hoppy session beer on a light biscuity base. A much sharper, hoppier version, crisp and refreshing. Sunday, February 17, 2008

3.1 Appleford River Crossing (-2010) Cask conditioned at Oxford Beer Festival 12-10-07 Poured dark chestnut colour, wonderfully fruity malty taste very easy drinking, smooth pleasant slightly restrained bitterness, one of my favourite’s of the evening. A7 A4 T8 P4 Ov15 3.8 Had this again at The Shoulder of Mutton, Wantage, Oxon 15.04.11 with Peter (ex Pitstop brewer) and owner of this new pub Pours dark brown, chestnut colour. Lacking the impact that this had when I last had it. Ok so it was still fruity and malty but not quite as impressive as last time. Some nuttiness but I found that it was floundering a little, maybe it was just up against some very good company in Loddon and Durham, not sure but the hoppy profile, and bitterness just not quite there. Not a bad pint by any stretch of the imagination just not as great as I recalled. A6 A4 T6 P3 Ov13 3.1 Monday, October 15, 2007

3.2 Appleford River Crossing (-2010) Cask at Peterborough Beer Fest. Mahogany colour. Toasty, burnt and aggresively resiny. Light bodied, but really intense. All that flavour in this tiny body makes it highly controversial, and the bitterness is almost punishing. Tuesday, August 28, 2007

3.6 Appleford River Crossing (-2010) Cask@London Drinker 07. Well, thank god for this beer, as we’d seemed to have had a bad run of beers at this festival. This saved it somewhat. Lots of toasty crystal malt notes, with slight touches of berry fruit, and earthy, leafy, lightly citric hops in the finish. Very classy bitter. Nice. Thursday, June 7, 2007
