Ashover Christmas Light
Cask at Smithfield, Derby. Pours chrome yellow with a small off-white head. There’s citrus and corn in the aroma with some traces of floral hops. In the mouth the floral hops are much more evident alongside grapefruit and stone fruits. Finish is bittersweet and slightly dry. It’s reasonable.

Poured clear golden body white lace top. Modest aroma of hop and pale malt. Lightly sweet to bitter with not a lot to mention. There are trace elements but boy, bland at best. Medium bodied slightly grainy texture average carbonation and a light bitter finish. Nondescript is too full a description. At the Navigation Inn, which is hard to find on here

Ashover Taiheke
Cask at Smithfield, Derby. Pours golden yellow with minimal off-white head and good lacing. The aroma has tropical fruits and pineapple with hints of floral hops. In the mouth the main sensation is of the bitterness, though it is somewhat watery. In terms of flavour the mainstays are floral hops, grapefruit and citrus with traces of ginger and herbs. Finish is fairly dry. This is reasonable to not really my cup of tea.

Handpull cask from the Blue Boar, Leicester. Deep mid-gold and clear with a soapy off-white head. Ann odd aroma - a bit buttery and floral with light pineapple hiding behind. Sweet taste with a touch of mustiness and light bitterness toward the finish. Slightly soapy aftertaste. Overall a very tame pale which isn't bad but is a little disappointing when put head to head with the best NZ pales (or indeed the best of Ashover's output).

Ashover Butts Pale Ale
Cask at Petersgate Tap, Stockport. Pours a slightly hazy gold with a sizeable white head and good lacing. There’s floral hops and some citrus in the aroma. In the mouth it is sweet and yeasty. Hops are there from the start, and it quickly becomes quite intensely bitter with traditional hops and lemongrass. Leading to a massively dry finish. This is very good indeed – plenty of the old school hoppiness that I like.

Ashover Coffee Stout
Gravity cask from the Blue Boar, Leicester. Dark brown, pretty much opaque with a loose uneven khaki/tan head. Muted aroma with chocolate fudge, not getting quite so much coffee. Taste is sweet and- oh there's the coffee- with a sugared creamy notes leading to a more balanced finish with chocolate malt in the aftertaste. Super-oily body, soft to no carbonation. An excellent little brew.

Cask at The Colmore, Birmingham. Clear gold with small white head. Has some reasonable stone fruit hints but predominantly is just drying and bitter. An OK but fairly basic cask pale ale, not a great showcase for the hop.

Ashover White Lion
Cask at Smithfield, Derby. Pours chrome yellow with minimal off-white head. Not much of an aroma, just some generic citrus notes. In the mouth it starts off sweet with flavours of grains and pine. Fairly quickly though comes a massive does of floral hops to swamp everything, though citrus notes can still be detected. Finish is quite bitter. This is OK.

Cask at Brunswick, Derby. Pours a golden amber with a small frothy white head and good lacing. Citrus is the mainstay of the aroma with grapefruit and tangerine. In the mouth it is initially sweet and wtaery, but them graduates to bitter. Flavour has citrus and summer fruits with some underlying caramel and hints of ginger. Finish is rather sticky – and not in a good way. It’d OK but not for me really.

Bottle. Poured dark brown with offwhite/tan foam lacing (in abundance despite a slow tilted pour). Aroma has dark malts with just a dash of licorice. Taste is lightly sweet to bitter with a more pronounced licorice tang. Palate is medium bodied, smooth texture, average to full carbonation, and a bitter spiced finish. A useful reminder to any youngster who scoffs at Mild. And potent.
