3 Kumamoto Pilsner Bottle kindly shared by KyotoLefty. It poured a somewhat muddy looking orange-brown with a chalky aroma that featured some flowery pot-pourri notes. 2.9 Kurokawa Craft Beer Pale Ale Bottle from Furusato Nozei. Yu-agari Bijin label. Slightly strange nose, stinky durian / very ripe tropical fruit, bit of toffee, ripe stone fruit, metal. Golden orange with a low, lacy head. Sweet, creamy flavor, toffee, creamy, tropical and stone fruit. Very light bitterness, slightly peppery. Touch of diacetyl maybe. Not a lot going on. 3.2 Kurokawa Craft Beer Dark Lager Bottle from Furusato Nozei. This is the Yu-agari Bijin label. Cocoa powder nose, lightly roasty, slightly creamy. Shiny dark brown to black with a fine, frothy head. Dry, roasty flavor, dark chocolate and coffee, a bit of burnt wood. I agree this is probably an ale and not a lager, although could be a schwarzbier. Body is rather light, crisp. Finish is mostly roasty and dry. Not bad at all, though somewhat forgettable. 3.1 Kumamoto Pilsner Tap at NAkanosjima. Malty, biscuity nose. Sweet malt falvor, oily. Ok pils character, particularly the malt, but a bit heavy, sweet, and unrefined. Not bad though. Friday, September 23, 2016 | |

2.6 Kumamoto Pilsner Pours light amber with slightly off white head. Aroma is malty, but this time my allergies are preventing me from smelling properly. Flavors are pretty underwhelming unfortunately. Very watery, slight bitterness on the finish accompanied with some citrus flavors, but pretty hard to detect. 3.3 Kurokawa Craft Beer Pale Ale Hooray! A halfway decent tasting beer made in Japan! Pours a pale slightly green golden color with a nice natural looking head. 3.3 Kurokawa Craft Beer Dark Lager Pours brownish black with thin greyish head. Aromas are smoky and hard to smell because I have a cold. Very bubbly carbonation, mouthfeel of a somewhat flat soda. Flavors are very smoky, roasty again, but without any trace of bitterness that can sometimes accompany dominant smokiness in a beer. Decent, not too filling, goes down easy. Monday, May 14, 2007 | |
