Ring of Fire Alaska Statehood Mead
Backlog rating 1-23-2009 (Flip-Top Bottle at Fort Wayne Gathering courtesy of jsquire) This mead when poured is transparent, carbonated and has an orange hue. The Aroma is sweet, honey and cranberries. The Flavor mimics the Aroma and has a dry finish. The Palate is tingly and this mead is medium bodied. Overall, this mead despite it being 13%ABV is very easy to drink. It is definitely worth trying if one gets the opportunity to do so and I would drink this again myself. It is also a mead that I recommend.

Ring of Fire Strawberry-Rhubarb Melomel
Sampled at Ft Wayne RB tasting - This melomel has an aroma of strawberries and honey. The flavor is moderately sweet with good fruit character. To me the strawberries are more apparent than the rhubarb in the aroma and flavor. It’s medium bodied and good.

Gold color and still out of the bottle. Big honey sweet and strawberry tart nose. Lots of honey sweetness with lots of berry tartness in the flavor, with some vanilla notes. This reminds me of my Dad’s strawberry/rhubarb pie. Tasty mead.

Ring of Fire Strawberry-Rhubarb Melomel
This bottled mead from a rating party poured a medium sized head of clear colored bubbles that were mostly lasting and left behind a uncarbonated transparent light orange colored body and no lacing. The mild aroma was sweet and honey. The mouth feel was weakly tingly at the start and strongly tingly at the finish vinous aftertaste. The flavor contained notes of vinous sweet and dry. An OK mead just nothing special.

Ring of Fire Redoubt Raspberry Melomel
[Bottle] Had a glass of this at a restaurant in Homer. Pours a bright reddish color that looks a lot like cherry juice. Honey and mixed berry aromas are sweet and syrupy. Notes of raspberry, clover honey, white wine and mild alcohol throughout. The sweetness is kept in check, which is good. Average body and mouthfeel for a mead. A good after dinner drink.

Pricey looking bottle thanks to AmEricanbrew. BTW, isn’t CCB from the same town as these guys? No? Pours with a clear golden body with strong legs. Aromas are amazing with notes of bourbon, fruit, crayon, butter/butterscotch (not like diacetyl, but in a very nice way), tannic, brown sugar and oak. Very rich with vanilla and a nice tartness. The taste is cranberry (or a tart berry of some sort), buttery, bourbon, vanilla and good tannins. For the alcohol and the richness, it finishes very balanced and not super sweet at all. Great balance of sweetness, booze, acidity, and tannins. Very well done!

Thanks to AmericanBrew for sharing this bottle. The beer pours yellow. The aroma is honey, with some oaked notes mixed in. Where the mead really shines is in the flavor, which is incredibly complex. I get some honey, raspberries, vanilla, maple and bourbon. The alcohol is also present, which is not surprising at 13 percent ABV. Easy to drink. Awesome.

750ml bottle labeled Raspberry Melomel @ 12% abv. Hazy deep red and still. Aroma of sweet mixed berries and alcohol, the berry flavor smells a bit like kool-aid. Flavor is more mixed berries with some oak and very light alcohol. This is good but tastes a bit artificially flavored although I know Ring of Fire used real fruit. Still very tasty.

375ml bottle from the Meadery. Blush in color with a few faint bubbles. Sour cherry, alcohol and a light honey aroma. Sweet flavor and a definite alcohol taste. A still mead but a slight carbonation and a syrupy mouth feel. Pretty good but the alcohol dominates, wish the honey and cherries stood out more.

thanks cmubeerman. for my 1000 rating i guess i’ll be the first to rate this awful mead. pours lighter than busch lite though the same color and obviously with no head. it smells pretty bad (and i’ve loved every other mead i’ve ever had). honestly it smells like a pretty foul, days old, cheap white wine. a bit of vanilla under it. taste is, mercifully, more in line with meads i’ve had. full bodied sweetness, definitely some off flavors all over it, but if you remove them it’s reasonably tasty. incredibly alcoholic all over for 12%. the jagdiva and sweet blossom were billion times better.

Ring of Fire Alaska Statehood Mead
Bottle courtesy of jsquire: Big thanks to Jeff for bringing this...pour was a very nice looking light pink color. Aroma was of sweet honey and light berries. The biggest thing that I enjoy about meads is the subtlety of them, basically they are what they are. Not a bunch of underlying stuff, pretty much up front and basic. I didn’t pick up any bourbon barrel notes at all in this...which is a shame ’cause I do love me some BB aged stuff. Flavor was slightly dry, honey and berries. Nice.

Pinkish blush color out of the swing top bottle. This is a still mead, with a big, heavy honey nose with lots of berry/cranberry notes. This has all the full flavored honey sweetness you want in a mead with lots of the cranberry (and I got strawberry) flavors. The barrel imparted a clean, smooth alcohol sense to it, and I got something chalky. Very nice sipping mead.
