2.9 Steinegger Bräu Märzen courtesy of Allen - cloudy dark reddish in colour, big foamy pale beige head; aroma of melon, bread and honey; medium-bodied, smooth and with some sourness; short and dry fruity finish with a lingering sourness - looks top-fermented to me; in any cases nothing to do with a Märzen Monday, December 29, 2008

2.8 Steinegger Bräu Helles courtesy of Allen - pours a hazy dark orange colour under a persistant foam; nice lace; aroma of almonds with grainy notes in the background; medium-bodied, fair and regular carbonation, very low bitterness, moderate almondy finish - not much character and with a profile similar to the Pale Ale Tuesday, December 23, 2008

3.3 Steinegger Bräu Pale Ale courtesy of Allen - hazy amber-orange colour under a firm and persistant pale beige foam; aroma of oranges, bread and almonds, smooth palate with a medium malt body, sweet with no real bitterness; long bready and almondy finish - a very free interpretation of the pale ale style ... 2.9 Steinegger Bräu Pale Ale Bottled 33cl. Bought at Profi drink in Aarau, Switzerland. Sweet with hints of aniseed, pumpkin and papaya. Low bitterness. This beer doesn’t really classify as a typical pale ale. Thursday, November 20, 2008

2.8 Steinegger Bräu Märzen Bottled 33cl. It pours a hazy copper beer with an off white head. The nose is of walnuts, raisins, dried apples and apricots. Rather strong and malty. Some candied fruits sneaking in. Pretty sweet. The taste is a bit acidic. Malty. Low carbonation. Flat mouthfeel. Raisins, candied, fruits and walnuts showing up. Low bitterness. Nice lacework. Medium bodied. Soapy. Strange. Too sweet. Some manure and marmite sneaking in. Residual sugars in the finish. This beer gets cloying after a few sips. After several samplings: Not that bad. Very interesting. The finish is dominated by dried apricot and apple. Weird. For a Märzen it’s not drinkable at all. Not true to the style. Thursday, October 2, 2008

3.7 Steinegger Bräu Helles Bottled 33cl. It pours a pale hazy godlen beer. Fizzy head. Poor retention. Some lacework. Amazing nose with hints of candied fruits, figs, turkish delight, peanut butter and passion fruit and almonds accompanied by a huge amount of grapefruit. Flowery. Some disinfectant sneaking in. Extremely pleasant, strong and unique. It reminds me a bit of Ziegelhof Zwickel. Great flavor. Nicely balanced. Wonderfully fruity. (Papaya, passion fruit, grapefruit and figs). Sweet. Low bitterness. Medium bodied. Not much carbonation. The mouthfeel is a bit flat. Soapy. Fruity finish with residual sugars. Lingering sweetness. A very interesting beer.
