| beeronmypants (11), Des Moines, Iowa | | February 27, 2009 This is a fun little stop for me since I live in Des Moines. It is only half an hour away to get a decent beer selection. They focus more on their liquor and wine but you can tell the try with the beers that they do have. When I am in the mood for something that has to be traded through the state this is where I’ll go as it is only a hop skip and a jump away. The staff is very friendly. | | CanIHave4Beers (54), Des Moines, Iowa | | January 20, 2009 This place is a breath of fresh air for this area! Plenty of helpful, and very freindly staff, plenty of good beer. I love how the good beer is in a little room in the back. You can tell the staff cares about the beer, and for Iowa it is a remarkable selection! | | coco72 (10), , Iowa | | July 11, 2008 [ Updated August 9, 2009 ] I always enjoy shopping at Cyclone. As a former college student at ISU and now family man living in Ames, I always knew where to find good beer. They have a huge selection for an Iowa store, great service and staff. The place is always clean and organized also. | IDunno19 (5), Ames, Iowa does not count - explanation | | June 27, 2008 [ Updated October 22, 2008 ] As an amateur beer enthusiast still in college, it’s tough to find something besides Keystone Light anywhere in Ames. Cyclone Liquors really fits the bill for people looking to try some real beer for a decent price. The service is friendly and incredibly knowledgeable. Also, what college town sells a $2000 bottle of cognac!? Only Cyclone Liquors. | iowanuser (2), , Iowa does not count - explanation | | June 19, 2008 I love traveling to Ames to drool over the beer selection at Cyclone Liquors. It is a great store with a huge variety of different beer. Great imports and singles. A good selection of micros as well. | beastman11 (4), does not count - explanation | | May 4, 2008 I am from Ankeny Iowa and travel to this store to purchase beer as there are no quality stores in Ankeny. Cyclone is a very clean and organized store. They have a massive selection of beers domestic micros, imports and singles. The staff is always friendly and helpful as well. | | KAF (68), Coralville, Iowa | | October 22, 2007 For Iowa this place is not a bad one to visit if you’re near by. The manager was not at all helpful with anything but a young lady who also worked there was more than helpful. In single bottles the mostly had Belgians and a few other European beers but very few craft brews. The had a lot of craft brews in cases. They also had some cheaply priced glassware. | Beersmith2233 (2), does not count - explanation | | August 21, 2007 Best store I have been to in Iowa! I love this place. Very neatly organized, friendly staff, clean and very large selection. | iowabeerfan (2), does not count - explanation | | May 19, 2007 Great store with a very large amount of beer. The help is extremely friendly and know their stuff. They do order everything available from distributors and also special order a very large amount of high proof beers from the state. The store is clean and a great place to shop if you are in Iowa. | artvandelay (2), Ames, Iowa does not count - explanation | | May 18, 2007 The manager says he orders everything available from his distributors, but I think that may be a stretch. Unfortunately, due to Iowa’s prohibitionist liquor laws, most of the good stuff (>5% ABW) has to come through the State distributor. Everything except the Belgians are pretty well stocked. Except for the cashiers, they’re somewhat knowledgeable, very friendly and will talk shop. They will chill beer for you if you call ahead, and will special order kegs if their distributor carries it. They have some wine, whiskey, and beer tasting sessions a couple time a year (as an aside, they also have a good selection of wine and whiskey). Although I’m frequently disappointed, this is the best place I’ve seen in Central Iowa. |
