| BrewDad (360), Olympia, Washington | | May 8, 2012 Just one word - AWESOME. This was a must visit for me and I loved every minute Had some very rare brews here. Loved the atmosphere and the service was off the hook. A must stop for any beer geek. | | womencantsail (53), Home of Rebecca Black, California | | April 27, 2012 The tap list features a lot of California, and especially San Diego, beers including Alpine, Stone, Russian River, Green Flash, etc. There are some imports as well, but nothing terribly exciting on my particular visit.
More impressive than the tap list is the bottle list. Of course, Cable Car, and other rarities from Russian River, Lost Abbey, 50/50, Hair of the Dog, etc. The problem is that the formula for bottle pricing here is: take the retail price and double it. For example, Victory at Sea for $19, 50/50 Imperial Eclipse for $42, Cherry Adam for $29...you get the picture.
The service was good and the bartenders were helpful and friendly, which is always welcomed and a nice change of pace from the SF location.
Other than the high prices, my main gripe with the place was the large number of hipsters in attendance. I try to ignore these folks as much as possible, but it can be difficult when they’re over running the bar. | | OldGrowth (132), North Carolina | | April 23, 2012 Good looking place, dark wood, beige walls, L shaped bar dozen or chairs at bar, tables, mostly fit six, 8 or so, two two person tables. Service was good, but it was Monday lunch so it wasn’t busy. Solid beer selection, lots of SD area, Belgium well represented.. I got.the ablt sandwich. Tasted good.. fair market prices. Good place, reccomended visit if you in the area. | | douglas88 (117), Salt Lake City, Utah | | April 6, 2012 A wonderful place. Much different than the San Fran location, clean and with amazing service. Both are great. Good food, reasonable prices. A great selection, got a cable car kriek. The service was amazing, those guys are really cool. What can I say, huge tap selection and loads of bottles. Great place! | | chimay67 (58), hunt sta, New York | | April 1, 2012 I felt like I had just entered IPAapalooza when I looked up at the board here. My only Alpine scores of the trip and was rewarded with both a Duet and a Nelson. Very cool bar staff, excellent juke box, food looked great but I was beer only the night of my visit. A must hit if you are in from out of town.
| | Scopey (150), Croydon, England | | March 20, 2012 After visiting the SF Toronado previously on this trip I was very pleasantly surprised with the SD outpost. Can’t believe these are even owned by the same person. Where the SF one is a dive bar, this is much more modern and clean inside. Draft selection was very extensive (including Alpine, RR and the like) and great value. Bottle list was massive and full of very interesting beers. Opted for a bottle of Cable Car Kriek to start…… Great choice, it’s just a shame I had to leave! Would love to return for longer in the future. | | bmerz (61), New York | | March 15, 2012 [ Updated March 16, 2012 ] The chalk board for local beer for $3 per pint of Alesmith, Alpine, Green Flash, Stone, Lost Abbey, and Pizza Port...that kinda says it all. The charm is mostly the beer paraphernalia and knowledge of the kind of establishment it is The bartender was one of the best I’ve had anywhere. The beer list...jeez. SD proper. | | coharahawk (30), Milwaukee, Wisconsin | | February 11, 2012 I went on a weeknight. Crowd was not an issue. The tap list was impressive, but I wasn’t blown away given that I’d been to O’Brien’s, PP, and Hamilton’s already this trip. It was a cool atmosphere, and a nice clean place. The servers seems helpful and pleasant. I definitely plan on returning on my future SD visits. | | BOLTZ7555 (56), Phoenix, Arizona | | January 1, 2012 A lot cleaner but not as much character as its SF counterpart. Tons of Pizza Port options on tap which was awesome...unique offerings. Would have stayed a lot longer if my wife was impressed. Decent service, good selection...but there are so many options in San Diego. In a strip mall...not sure I’d revisit unless something crazy was available. | | gvmdw7 (31), California | | December 3, 2011 The selection is great, but mostly American when it comes to drafts. The food is good and has local/vegan options. My biggest complaint was the temperature. Take a coat and hat, brrr.... |
