Great decoration and ambiance. Feels bit upscale sort of bar. Really nice selection of cask and keg beers. Thereís always something interesting on. Service is quite good. Food was good as well. Prices bit on the high side considering they are serving 2/3 pint. This one is a must when in Edinburgh.

Well ive given this place time to settle to get a better feel for it. So here goes. The hanging bat has a lot to recomend it, 14 Keg lines and 6 Cask lines as well as a considerable bottle selection. But its not not all about the numbers its the care taken in the selection. With the likes of Kernel, magic Rock and Harbour, on regularly as part of the rotating guest list, and the likes of Hawkshead , Moor and Luckie forming part of there Permanent theres a Garentee of Interesting beers and Its not uncommon to find 4-5 beers above 6% on at any one time. But this place has more to offer than just beer. The layout and Decor make this a very comfortable bar, some where you can easily pop into for a 10 minute quicky or spend several hour being slowly seduced by its delights. Food is well done and well priced, offering filling and snacky alternatives. With Regular meet the brewer events its possible to see 10-20 brews from one of the more intersting UK breweries on at the same time. But for me the one thing that puts the Icing on the Cake is that it Allows Children. While Edinburgh has many great pubs sadly too many of them are not child friendly, so to find a Bar this good that we can go out as a family to is a delight.
SO were into a new Year and this place is going strong, its amazing the beer you can find in here on a Random monday night like last night. Which Just makes it such a great place to have a drink on the way home, but its also nice to sit on a quietish weekend afternoon playing a game with the kids while having a couple of beers, but the Thing that really lift this place to Truely stunning is the Beer events about once a month a brewer will appear and the Bar will showcase their beer, often taking up all 20(21) lines

Very nice and cosy place. Probably on average good selection - when I was there there was a hangover of a recent 6DN tap takeover with mainly the crappy beers remaining.

Wearing in but not wearing out. Still a top UK beer destination. Cool design, well-motivated, enthusiastic staff, offended if you moan about any of the brews, but in a positive, brood-protecting kind of way. Using 2/3 pint glasses called schooners - so translated into British the beer is 50% higher than in the perpint system. Tries very hard to get an entertaining range and succeeds at most levels. Food is craft beer fast.

A great spot, worthy of its acclaim. They get all kinds of rare one-off type beers in here, and they offer small pours so you can get through a good number of beers. The prices are fair. The staff is helpful and attentive. The food is very good. The ambiance is modern and clean and just a little bit funky.
The Hanging Bat is probably the best beer venue in Edinburgh, and certainly a must-visit if you are in the city.

Great multi levelled pub in Edinburgh. Has a little brewing plan on site which produces odd one-off casks.
Has a great range of beers from across the UK and further afield. Prices are OK, service was friendly.
Itís a great addition to the Edinburgh pub scene and a place thatís a must visit on my list. It does seem to get a lot of good beer judging by some of the regulars on RB!

What a nice place! Great interior with cozy armchairs and sofas. Excellent pub food. And of course, a great selection of beer. The tap list rotated fast (we visited two times in three days) and the bottle selection was quite good. All in all, my favorite place of the ones we visited in Edinburgh.

Nice place, trendy people, relaxed atmosphere but crazy prices. Drinks are far overprized. Iíd rather go to Cloisters which is up Lothian road.
