52 /100 Market Basket Supermarket (Grocery Store) 108 FORT EDDY ROAD Regional chain. Low prices for decent groceries. Very few organic choices. Beer selection random and haphazard. Where most locals shop. |
76 /100 Concord Cooperative Market (Grocery Store) 24 SOUTH MAIN A pretty typical Coop, maybe there's a national blueprint for these sorts of places. Highlight is a very tasty pay-by-weight hot lunch and salad bar - in fact this place has three, a nd indoor and outdoor seating areas to enjoy your food. Beer selection is above average for such a small place. Solid |
68 /100 The Barley House Restaurant & Tavern (Restaurant) 132 NORTH MAIN STREET On the main drag more or less across the street from the State Capitol. Two bigs room, one with a long bar, the rest are restaurant tables. Sadly the tap and bottle lists have succumbed to the local Budweiser distributor, so in addition to Bud Light you get all the usual suspects like Allagash White, Sam Adams seasonal, etc that every bar and restaurant in New Englad carries. The food is above average for what is essentially a pub. Service was fine. OK place. |
36 /100 231 S MAIN STREET Seemed a plus to have a micro-brewery close by where I was staying, until i drank there. Something about the lay-out here just doesn't work. The beertender was in an i don't give a bleep kind of mood. And the beer i had was borderline terrible, barely drinkable. There are better beer choices in Concord |
82 /100 126B HALL STREET I know they don't have free pizza from a nearby pizzeria every day, but it's a fine way to make a first impression. (& the pizza was very good.)
Even without the pizza, hard to make a better first impression than the beertender did, very friendly and knowledgeable. Some thing like 16 beers on tap, half sours. They do the best they can with the industrial park space. a family room feel--board games and foosball. A homey collage along the walls of 45s in pieces and album covers. And the beer? One most excellent. and for others I'm not a big hazy fan--but when in New England drink NEIPA. And getting a 4 pack for half price didn't hurt in the impression department. |
76 /100 126B HALL STREET In a light industrial sort of strip mall, way in the back, just follow the signs. Outdoor parking lot tables give away the location. Inside there's a serving bar with just four stools around the corner, plus lots of different scattered tables and chairs. Pretty large selection, less than half NEIPAs and five or so kettle sours. Beers were all OK, nothing that really jumped out at me. Light snax only. decent stop if you're in the area or passing through Concord. |
88 /100 Capital Beverages (Beer Store) 3 BROADWAY I walked in and asked if they had singles of NH beers and the reply was “not many” and pointed toward a cooler. 20 minutes later I had maybe 20 singles! Talk about under selling. Over all the beer selection was terrific, whether as singles or packs. Definitely worth a stop! |
46 /100 Exxon Gas Station (Grocery Store) 1 WHITNEY RD Gas station with a really small but solid selection of craft beers. |
70 /100 117 STORRS STREET This place is a block or so below the touristy main drag, street parking is limited and metered but there's an ancient parking garage a couple blocks away that I thought was abandoned at first. Inside is spacious with a central bar and restaurant tables. Small patio out the side door and a few tables out front also. Beers were decent enough, nothing too exciting, and are available in flights of four. Served in plastic cups if you're outside and proper glassware inside. There is a large commercial kitchen, closed when I visited - food is mainly a weekend thing, not just here but at most local brewpubs from what I can gather. Worth a look only if you're in Concord anyway. |
70 /100 Smokeshow Barbeque (Restaurant) 231 S MAIN ST Located right next door to Feathered Friend. Good place to grab something to eat if you're waiting for FF to open. Variety of BBQ meats available by weight, good sides. Can selection offers some local craft options. Good food, good beer, good service. |
76 /100 231 S MAIN STREET Located on the road into Concord, parking across the street. BBQ available next door. Small, lively taproom, I believe there was a patio available out the back. IPA centric taplist. Good service. Looks pretty new. |
62 /100 Quik Mart (Beer Store) 201 SOUTH MAIN STREET The place advertises its big beer selection on the store siding. However, inside, it's just a convenience store. Service is indifferent. Selection is OK, as long as you don't want anything really special. |
72 /100 117 STORRS STREET Nestled in an old brick building, this place has a nice ambiance. Service is hit or miss, depending on the crowd. Not a huge selection, but the beer is often fantastic. A good place to grab a beer in Concord. |
60 /100 Concord Cooperative Market (Grocery Store) 24 SOUTH MAIN A totally Bohemian vibe here - bring your Birkenstocks. Place is chill. Beer section is decent, nothing extraordinary. Service is spotty. At least the prepared food is tasty. |
44 /100 Hannaford’s Supermarket (Grocery Store) 73 FT EDDY ROAD Fairly oddly curated beer selection. Especially for a open supermarket concept. Interesting mix of strong, local selection juxtaposed with national macrobrews. The staff is no help, so don't ask. |
40 /100 Market Basket Supermarket (Grocery Store) 108 FORT EDDY ROAD Open supermarket concept. Beer selection is fairly haphazard with local brews and national breweries lumped in together. Don't bother asking for service, you'll get none. |
72 /100 117 STORRS STREET Clean newish space, with construction in the back for a kitchen (pizza and "specialty" burgers. Good range of their brews. Not much into rainbows and unicorns, or NEPAs, but enjoyed safe space and a couple others. Most friendly service |
76 /100 Capital Beverages (Beer Store) 75 SOUTH MAIN STREET This is a small place in a small plaza that houses the local UPS store. There is a tight parking lot. Kind of tight quarters inside too. Recently they have stepped up their game with their craft beer offerings. Generally, you can find an array of locals and regional brews and the prices are actually better than some other places I go. You cannot break up the 4-packs and 6-packs however. Lately, I have been stopping by this place more since I pass by it on my way home from work. |
66 /100 Milanos Mini Market (Grocery Store) 3 BROADWAY I used to buy my Haffenreffer Malt Liquor here until it stopped being brewed. But since then, they've upped their efforts to introduce new beers to their customers. A number of 4 packs of regionals. But the best part is that you can buy your beer and then go next door to their awesome restaurant for a pizza or sub. |
60 /100 Concord Cooperative Market (Grocery Store) 24 SOUTH MAIN This is a natural foods/health food grocery store basically but they do have a modest craft beer selection. When I go here, I am looking for something from the salad bar, fresh veggies or fruit, or organic products. I don't go here on a beer quest. However, on occasion, they sell some beer that you just don't find regularly. It is not really a beer stop in my opinion but you can find something regional or local here to compliment the healthy foods you buy. They do NH brewery tastings from time to time. You only need to visit here if you are in the area. |
80 /100 The Barley House Restaurant & Tavern (Restaurant) 132 NORTH MAIN STREET Nice, open room with lots of space and well-appointed. Beer list has excellent local beer on draft, decent can selection. Food is good. |
72 /100 The Draft (Bar) 67 S MAIN ST Typical sports bar layout, with many TVs overhead and a long bar. Service and food are good. Beer selection has some good locals, but few whales. Typical of most sports bars, heavy on adjunct lagers. |
62 /100 Quik Mart (Beer Store) 201 SOUTH MAIN STREET This is a convenience store just a few hundred yards off Exit 13 of I-93. It is mainly a beer, cigarette, lottery, and tobacco paraphernalia store. There's a big sign on the front of the store that says 1,000 different beers. They do have several coolers of everything from local/regional craft beers to malt liquors. Their prices are a little higher than some but they do make an effort to offer a wide variety. Although I don't believe the staff are as knowledgeable about beer as they are about tobacco paraphernalia. They are open seven days a week until very late at night. They are a great place to go if you're in the mood for something interesting late at night or on a weekend/holiday. But admittedly, some beers might stay on the shelves or in the coolers longer than you might want. |
100 /100 Milanos Mini Market (Grocery Store) 3 BROADWAY Under new ownership. Added huge selection of craft beer variety. |
60 /100 Riverhill Market (Grocery Store) 189 CARTER HILL ROAD Located on a back road that you have to travel quite a ways to find. It is a step above a convenience store because you can buy a few pre-made sandwiches, salads, a lot of jars of homemade pickled goods, and there is a small meat shop. But they have been trying to expand their craft beer line. For the most part they offer some decent local and regional beers. But the freshness on some of them might be in question. Prices are typical for 4-packs and 6-packs. There is a small singles cooler but you cannot break up multi-packs. So buy yourself a Concord Craft Brewing 4-pack, a cut of steak, and a package of homemade smoked cheese and you will be all set. |
64 /100 Local Baskit (Restaurant) 10 FERRY STREET This is a difficult place to define as a RB place but it is worth adding. It is not really a restaurant. What they do is prepare ready-to-cook meals that you bring home to cook yourself. The ingredients are from local farms and local sources. It is not a beer store but they have a modest craft beer selection that primarily focuses on local New Hampshire-brewed beer like Henniker, Oddball, Out.Haus, Litherman's, and Concord Craft. The two ladies that operate this place are very friendly and helpful. Is it a craft beer destination? No. But I occasionally stop in here to pick up some local craft brews and then take home the ingredients to make my dinner. |
58 /100 Capital Beverages (Beer Store) 75 SOUTH MAIN STREET This is a convenience store located in a small strip mall that includes a UPS store and a Beef/Seafood butcher. I added this place because they have been trying to expand their bottle offerings and their prices are fairly reasonable. Sometimes their bottles are old or near their expiration date. They also sell wine and tobacco. But with the closing of Barb’s Beer Emporium, I stop here occasionally and every now and again find a little surprise. |
70 /100 117 STORRS STREET It just opened a few weeks before I posted this review in Feb 2017 so if you are reading this a year or more later - things might have changed. It’s located in downtown Concord NH. When you go inside there are a number of tables and counters that you can sit at and enjoy your 4-5 beer flight. Friendly service but they need to get more efficient. Not a criticism because they are still new to this as I write this,. I’m sure they’ll figure it out. Their beer is textbook for the style(s). Nothing that jumps out but nothing that makes you wince. They could do well because they will draw people who are just toying with the idea of craft beer - and their close proximity to the NH State Capitol building which is a tourist attraction. I enjoyed looking at the fermenting tanks in the back of the brewery. For now they do flights (or samples), growlers, and crowlers. You should check them out while in Concord. |
80 /100 126B HALL STREET It is hidden on the backside of a business industrial complex not far off Exit 12 of I-93 and you have to be looking for it to find it. But once you are inside it is a nice set-up with 4-5 beers on tap at all times. You can buy growlers and bottles. There are posters of their bottle labels on the walls. The bar stools have 45 RPM records glued and lacquered to the seat. The beers are better than average and always a variety of styles to try. Flights available. The staff love to chat about their beer. This brewery has a promising future. |

They have a hot bar of okay food that wasn’t too expensive, priced by weight. Beer selection is mostly VT, MA, NH locals with a focus on gluten-free garbage. NH is sort of a bottle shop wasteland unfortunately. |
66 /100 Concord Mobil Mart/Nadeau’s Subs (Beer Store) 81 S MAIN ST When I added this to Rate Beer I was not sure how to classify it. It is a gas station/convenience store, yes, but it is also part of the family-run Nadeau’s Subs and Wraps take-out in Manchester, N.H. that has been around for generations and has a good reputation. You can order from the full menu of subs, wraps, and sandwiches which are all darn good. But you can also pick up a variety of craft beers from all around the region beyond the usual Sam Adams, Smuttynose, and Shipyard brews you inevitably find everywhere in New Hampshire. Singles can be purchased from the cooler but there is no 6-pack discount. There is a cooler devoted to the macros and a couple coolers devoted to locally and regionally brewed beers which you do not often find in a small place like this. Open until 11:00 pm so you can buy your beer late. About a mile south of the New Hampshire State House building in Concord. |
76 /100 The Barley House Restaurant & Tavern (Restaurant) 132 NORTH MAIN STREET Stopped here while touring the State House and other historic sites. I had read about the place on this site and it is right across the street from the State House so had to go. Typical bar atmosphere in that its all dark wood and not well lit. Decent, but not outstanding beer selection. I had a Long Trail Imperial Pumpkin. What I did have was the best cheeseburger I have had in my 56 years of gnawing on meat. Worth a stop if you’re in Concord, but I don’t know if it’s worthy of being a destination. |
52 /100 Hannaford’s Supermarket (Grocery Store) 73 FT EDDY ROAD This is part of the Maine-based supermarket chain. It is not a beer store. You walk in and you are in a big produce aisle which leads to a bakery and then a deli lined up next to a natural foods aisle. Get the picture? But they do have a beer aisle. Beer in the refrigerator on one side and potato chips, pretzels, and other snacks on the other side. The selection is typical for a grocery store with all of the well-known BMC macros as well as crafts such as Smuttynose, Shipyard, Sam Adams, Redhook, and so on. No mix and match. This is a place to go if you are looking for a 12-pack mix pack for under $13 plus your week’s groceries. |
70 /100 Penuche’s Ale House (Bar) 16 BICENTENNIAL SQ Stopped in while bar-hopping in Concord after a friend’s wedding. Located down some sketchy stairs, and full of townie folk. Definitely make sure you’re not overdressed for this place. That aside, really a surprisingly good selection of beers on tap. Magic Hat, Dogfish Head, Stone, and some stuff I didn’t recognize, which is always welcome. Didn’t hang out here long, but it’s a decent little spot to grab a few drinks while in town. |
62 /100 The Draft (Bar) 67 S MAIN ST Stopped by this place while bar-hopping after a buddy’s wedding. Holy shit, what a townie bar...we rolled up in suits from the wedding, and everybody literally stopped talking and stared at us when we walked in the door. It was like a weird movie. We took over a lounge upstairs with 6-8 plasma TVs and an outdoor patio, and got some drinks. A decent set of taps, but nothing particularly amazing. A pretty chill place to hang out and have a beer, but definitely try to blend in with the locals. |
74 /100 The Barley House Restaurant & Tavern (Restaurant) 132 NORTH MAIN STREET Hung out here a few nights for my buddy’s wedding. The dinner for the rehearsal dinner was delicious; rare steak with a sweet sauce, perfectly cooked. A fair selection of beers on tap, with nothing amazing, but enough variety to have a few nice beers (Stone, Harpoon, Long Trail). After the wedding, we stopped in again for drinks and pub fare. The calamari were absolutely delicious, and the chicken wings and pizza were pretty good too. Our wedding party completely took over the downstairs area, which has its own bar area and leather couches and a TV. All in all, a great time, and a really pretty decent bar. Would absolutely stop in again for dinner and drinks. |
78 /100 The Barley House Restaurant & Tavern (Restaurant) 132 NORTH MAIN STREET This is a small Irish pub almost directly across the street from the New Hampshire state capitol building. What I like about it is that I, as a middle aged man who hates the bar scene, can go here and feel relaxed while getting decent beer and Irish-style food. There are usually 8 or 9 beers on tap with most of them being a bit better than average. Certainly they have their Bud Light tap to appease the masses but they also have Belhaven, Harpoon, Tuckerman’s and other beers in pints or half pints. Bottled beer includes Chimay, Brew Dog, and other quality beers. The bartenders are more than happy to tell you about their beer. The food is typical Irish pub fare such as Irish stew, burgers stewed in beer, fresh-cut fries served in metal containers, and salads. They contract with Harpoon, Long Trail, and other regional brewers to offer beer on tap under a "Barley House" label. Inside you will see a bar and a restaurant and often live entertainment. I tend to sit at the bar because I am often by myself. During the day you might run into some of New Hampshire’s movers and shakers such as State Senators, State Representatives, or even the Governor. When in Concord, NH check it out. |
50 /100 Market Basket Supermarket (Grocery Store) 108 FORT EDDY ROAD This is one of several stores of a supermarket chain mainly located in New Hampshire and Massachusetts. Their grocery prices are probably the cheapest in New England. But most of them have a large beer selection. The sell mainly macros and nationally known crafts like Samuel Adams, Saranac. Redhook, Harpoon, Magic Hat, Shipyard, and Smuttynose. But their prices are always good. I buy a lot of 12 packs here. You cannot mix and match. |
58 /100 Concord Cooperative Market (Grocery Store) 24 SOUTH MAIN There is not much for the beer lover here, but of course the draw is that they carry four beers from the brand new Manchester Brewing Co. 3 of them were well-priced for a bomber (a tad over 4$), but the Studly Monk was absurdly expensive at 17$ for a liter swing-top. Don’t know if this is the brewery’s fault or the Coop’s. |
