“Great selection of american and Belgian beers. Some of the staff is knowledgeable, some not so much. Always check for dates on the bottles because some beers can sit here for a while.“

“For a small store in Connecticut, they have a good selection. Some random foreign beers and micros that I haven’t seen elsewhere in the state. No mixed 6 packs though, so that’s a negative.“

“An excellent store for beer but make sure you are aware that it is in a strip mall that does not even attempt to be welcoming. It is located next to a Stop & Shop and looks like your run of the mill liquor store. Be prepared though as you make your way to the back. The assortment of beers will quickly dissolve any reluctance you might have had. They have many beers you probably have already have on your list (Belgium, German, American Micro). They also host many off-the-wall countries (Polish, Italy, etc.). Definitely an exciting feeling walking in knowing you’ll be there for some time trying to make up your mind on what to buy. They have lots of individual tall bottles along with 4/6 packs.“

“I dont know if this place is slipping in terms of thier inventory or quality, but this place doesnt compare at all to some of the other places in CT, or maybe its just that other places have surpassed it since the first ratings 5-6 years ago. A better than average import section, but nothing too crazy that you cant find in other beer stores. I always give a 3 for ambiance unless something is over the top bad or good, and this one got a 2 due to the generic "wine and liquor" sign outside the strip mall, and the beer shelves that look like someone made them out of plywood.“

“Stopped by to stock up on some quality beers for tomorrow’s tailgate at Giants Stadium. I left leaving with Rochefort 10, 8, and 6, a bunch of Southern Tier, Hebrew’s RIPA, and Unibroue 17. I was quite impressed with their selection of variety packs, one of them being Smuttynose. Overall, a great selection in CT. Possibly the best beer store in CT, but I haven’t been to many yet. I’ll be returning again and again for sure. #32 on 21112009, DG.“

“I travel along Route 8 about once a month on my way to Albany, NY and have been looking for bottle shops to stop at along the way. I finally got around to stopping into this place and am glad I did. As others have said, it is a liquor and wine store in addition to a beer shop, so the beer section is limited in space. They have a nice selction of meads, and I picked up four different Redstone meads in addition to some others. They also had Newport Storm ’06 and a solid selction of other New England beers. I dropped a couple of hundred bucks and could have easily spent more. I’ll be stopping by again.“

“As everyone has said, it’s a small place in a strip mall. However, there is a wonderful selection of eclectic beers, especially if you hit them at the right time. When Terry is there and has the time to chat, you can easily spend an hour talking and looking at beer. It is easy to walk out spending more than a couple hundred dollars. Living in Western Connecticut, it is sometimes hard to find a good selection of New England beers, Mountainview seems to have plenty. It would be nice to have a mix a six available, but, with a small store, it’s understandable. Lines can form rather quickly when we are at the register, especially if we have a diverse European selection which may be missing bar codes.“

“This is quite a nice place, in terms of selection. It’s got a wine store ambiance, bright, smallish beer section, but quantity over quality. a number of unusual, hard to find, and vintage selections. If that ’back room’ exists I certainly didn’t get invited to it despite dropping a big wad of cash here. Also, I was a bit dissapointed by the service. They were friendly enough, but when they had trouble ringing up a beer, a long line formed behind me. Instead of just key in the price of the beer, they insisted on looking it up in the inventory, where it apparently didn’t exist, after a long time searching many ways for it. In the end, I couldn’t buy that beer! Other beer stores would have just gave me the damn beer for free given how much I was buying. I thought it was really pathetic that they were so legalistic about it and in the end just put the stupid beer back on the shelf when it wasn’t in the computer, when the whole pointof it being there is to sell the beer. It was still worth it to go there, as I picked up many othe runusual things, but this stupid service issue really stands out as a black mark in my memory, as a place that was not customer oriented.“

“Fabulous selection of random Eastern European beers, plenty of lambics (1996 Boon Marriage parfait Framboise) and tons of NE micros. Old Belgians as well. My favorite part is that they let stuff sit on the shelf until it sells, so there are some very old locals, some having gone out of business or since been retired. Very friendly, helpful staff, though the beer manager was not there when I was there.“

“Nothing fancy about its beer display; it’s in the back behind all the up-front wine. The area back there is narrow and hard to navigate, but worth it. I was happy to see so many Rogues and Balhavens. So many more to try...“

“I’ve been heading to this place for about 5 years, Terry is a great advocate in the community and runs many benefits throughout the year that highlight a wide variety of micros and seasonals.“

“This is the #1 place to go in Connecticut for beer, and definitely one of the best places in all of New England. The reason is the resident beer guru, Terry Boyd. His knowledge of beer is phenomenol, and he pushes to get products of great rarity and quality. Although Wines & Liquor is predominantly a wine/liquor store (go figure), Terry keeps a modest in size but extremely impressive in quality selection of beer on hand. You’ll find Olde Burnside, Thomas Hooker, Rogue, DFH, Victory, Cantillon, De Dolle, numerous other brewers from England, Belgium, Germany and Poland. Terry even manages to get to acquire truly rare gems, so it’s always worth stopping by for a peek...“

“Met Terry Boyd, the "Beer Guy" on my visit last Saturday. He seemed to have consumed every beer that he stocks at one time or another. He also has the rarest beers stocked in the back for when he meets any friendly beer geeks that come in. This is a great place for finding rare beers.“

“Located in a strip mall. This place is very unassuming. On first look, it resembles a mom and pop liquor store. That is until you head to the back where the beer is. They stock a nice selection of lambics, ciders, belgians and hard to find seasonals. Their staff is extremely friendly and helpful.“

“This was a real surprise when I went to visit my family in May. I was at the Stop & Shop next door, and being a beer geek, I naturally had to scope out this place. To my surprise, they had an awesome selection. I wish I had more money with me, but I had no idea what I was in for. At least I got a 1992 JW Lees and some Fantome Saison.“

“This place is a true diamond in the rough. Naugautuck is in the middle of nowheres, as is this small little store. The back of this store has a great beer selection. They have a lot of hard to find Belgians to go with several British beers as well. They had a lot of Yards offerings as well as many other quality micros. The staff are really cool and they have events quite often. I’d say its worth the trip off the beaten path for this store.“

“I came here looking for Thomas Hooker but I left with many cases of assorted goodies because the prices were so good. J.W.Lees for $3.99ea by the case. Lots of NE Micros and a good selection of Eastern European and German beers too. Very helpful staff made calls to locate items they had recently sold out of. Thanks Muzzlehatch for putting out the heads up for this place!“
