76 /100 QUAY STREET Visited on Christmas Eve 2023 while on holiday in Penzance. Split level gastro pub with friendly staff (Joe), a nautical theme as you’d expect on a harbour, a core range of St Austell beers and a cracking food menu. I did not eat but saw at least one meal leave the kitchen- portions seemed generous as well. Handy for the Dock just up the road, but sadly that had closed early for Christmas. Don’t expect to tick or scoop, but expect a perfectly well kept pint of St Austell core beers. |
80 /100 The Crown (Bar) 1 VICTORIA SQUARE Visited on 23rd December 2023 while on holiday in Penzance. Tucked away two-roomed backstreet gem serving a range of ales on cask and keg form by Cornish Crown Brewing. A local’s pub yet friendly and welcoming, with a cosy intimate feel. I enjoyed Causeway and Porter on cask. Joined locals at the bar after ordering my final pint, which then proved to be anything but! Handmade pizzas served Friday and Saturday, 1800-2100. Live open mic events held weekly on a Monday, whilst Tuesday is quiz night. This pub is well worth the effort of finding, and won’t disappoint. |
74 /100 Crown (Cornish Crown) (Bar) VICTORIA SQUARE, Popular street corner pub away from the town centre but just a 5 minute walk. This is a wet pub and it's good at it. Friendly service, popular with locals and we'll kept beers from Cornish Crown Brewery. There is a seating area to th front to catch the sun, you can bring and eat your own food. Best place in Penzance by a country mile. |
50 /100 Turks Head Inn (Bar) 49 CHAPEL STREET This is a large, rambling old pub just up the hill from the harbour area, not that you would estimate how big it was from its frontage. All sorts of different rooms on all sorts of levels. Chiefly a foodie pub, really nothing of interest on the beer front. It's a beautiful building though and worth going in just to take it in. |
40 /100 QUAY STREET Large foodie pub on the harbour front, some outdoor seating before you enter. All tables laid up for dining inside. Not the most welcoming place but certainly more gentile than it's neighbour. The St. Austell standards are all that was available. |
68 /100 Dock Inn (Bar) 17 QUAY STREET Friendly pub, boozer in the harbour area of Penzance seemingly the haunt of the local boat builders etc. Multi roomed, boisterous and loud, certainly not a place for the woke crowd. It's an interesting old building with lots of nooks and crannies. There were interesting beers on during our visit, one from Blue Anchor and one from Penzance Brewery but it just so happens that I had had them both. Better ber range than it's near neighbours anyway. Not for the easily offended but worth looking in. |
36 /100 Tremenheere (JDW) (Bar) 4-8 MARKET PLACE Large, extensive Wetherspoons on the main shopping street in Penzance, it goes back a long way with a small patio to the rear occupied by the smoking fraternity. Loud and boisterous on our visit. The food we had was in pretty poor shape unfortunately and nothing of interest on the beer front apart from the new can range. Not one to recommend. |
64 /100 ROSEHILL Accidentally happened upon and drove by this cidery and shop while on holiday with MrsSHIG. Decided to pull a U-turn and stop. Staff was very friendly and helpful. They had wine and cider of theirs along with some beer from Cornish brewery. Worth the stop if you're on the same random road I was on. |
60 /100 Turks Head Inn (Bar) 49 CHAPEL STREET Oldest pub in town dating back to the 12th century. Cosy inside but otherwise a traditional english pub. They served classic casks like Doombar and had a tap from Beavertown. Nice service. Didn’t try the food, but menu looked good. |
60 /100 Tremenheere (JDW) (Bar) 4-8 MARKET PLACE Nice place to shelter (it was wet and windy) and have a pint. I was served quickly. I was asked to check in via the NHSapp and given a card. Green was for "I want to be served" and red was for "I'm fine". I checked the menu using their app and when the girl came around I told her what I wanted and gave her the money, 2.15, good value. My pint was brought to my table fairly quickly |
72 /100 Turks Head Inn (Bar) 49 CHAPEL STREET I just had a quick stop and looked into the pub, but this definitively deserved to be mentioned in a pub guide for Penzance. It’s a classic English pub with a food menu more in the direction of a restaurant. About 8 beers on cask, the regular Guiness tap and a few bottles. Beer including breweries like St. Austel, St. Ives and Skinner. Lovely beer garden. I wish I had more time to visit this place probably. |
70 /100 Crown (Cornish Crown) (Bar) VICTORIA SQUARE, Small, cozy pub with a nice patio not far from the center of Penzance, but gives a feeling of being somewhere local outside town. 4 casks from Cornish Crown plus a cider or too and a few bottles. Good service and affordable pricing. Well worth to take a few steps outside main street. |
72 /100 Crown (Cornish Crown) (Bar) VICTORIA SQUARE, Visited on 11th August 2017. Small two roomed pub a road back from the main drag from the station through the town centre, there is a patio out front which was popular with the locals, inside a few tables in the main room and a small back room hidden away. Decor is smart. 4 cask ales and a couple on keg from Cornish Crown, picked up a few new ticks here, service and prices were good and beer in decent nick. Been here a few times but first time since on RB. Worth a visit |
78 /100 Crown (Cornish Crown) (Bar) VICTORIA SQUARE, We happened upon The Crown by chance after a hearty luncheon of Cornish Pasty on the High Street. The pub is tucked away on Bread Street in a more residential area. There was a sign outside advertising Cornish Crown ales and a pleasant patio area outside to enjoy the winter sun. Inside the bar area is pretty small, but well appointed. We were immediately greeted by the very friendly barmaid and offered to try a few samples of ale before making our choices. They have 4 house cask ales and a variety of kegs (including a couple of smaller-batch Cornish Crown beers). Condition was good and I thought the general beer quality was pretty high. There was also a range of bottled beers to take-away. Best pub in Penzance in my opinion. |
50 /100 Yacht Inn (St. Austell) (Bar) THE PROMENADE, GREEN ST Could be great but isn’t sadly. Beautifully Art Deco exterior overlooking the bay but British pub interior designed for people flow rather than attractiveness. Britistish catering. Proper Job in cask and then the joy ends. |
64 /100 QUAY STREET Pleasant local pub with about four real ales on. |
80 /100 Lamp & Whistle (Bar) 12 LESKINNICK PLACE By some measure the best beer pub in Penzance with possibly the best Orval in England, if this part of Kernow is in England. Steps outside the ordinary in a pretty cliquey town. Lovely design, olde worlde, close to the station and deserving of success. |
60 /100 QUAY STREET Classic pub with 4 St. Austell´s ales on cask, and few other kegs (Korev Lager, from St. Austell). Nice terrace by the quay. |
50 /100 Yacht Inn (St. Austell) (Bar) THE PROMENADE, GREEN ST Felt like a place for the local sailing and fishing set. Really interesting building. Food offer looked good although not tried. |
