Twisted Carrot (Restaurant)
82 MARGARET STREET
“Smallish place on the main drag, which is under construction at the moment. Small bar in the back next to the kitchen, six stools or so I think. The rest are restaurant tables. Beers are from the larger brewers - Lagunitas, Smuttynose, Stone - though they do stock local beers from time to time. Food is fantastic, creative, good portions with veggie options. Service is solid. Mocktails are very tasty. My favorite restaurant in Plattsburgh.“

“I was the first customer on a Wednesday evening but they place quickly filled. It's an odd place - a used furniture and bric-a-brac market on one side and a bar on the other. A regular bar surrounded by used furniture that you can sit on, buy, or both. All the beers, both on tap and in cans, are local, and all the ciders and meads are from New York. Food is chicken nuggets though they aren't advertised. Server was incredibly friendly and knew the beers, ciders etc very well; she knew everyone's name but mine. The sign behind the bar says they serve misfits, and most other customers fit the bill and then some. The main street is under construction, but there are surface lots a couple of blocks in virtually any direction. Maybe the most interesting bar in Plattsburgh.“

“This place is above the Comfort Inn next to Walmart. They stopped brewing during the pandemic and have not resumed. Their brewing equipment is still in place, so there's hope. Their kitchen is also under renovation and their chef moved to the restaurant in the hotel downstairs. So they were not at their best when I visited. Looks like a dark and dank sports bar. Smells like a sewer. Vomit all over the men's toilet. Sadli I can't give them less than a 1 for Ambiance. Best avoided for now.“

“In the Army post's old firehouse, just south of the parade ground. Still has an artillery piece across the street. Lots of firefighter memorabilia. Hose drying tower still intact. Small bar, garage door opens to a small patio. Good range of beer styles, flights of six are possible, and you can open some of their canned beer on site. Popular with locals and French bulldogs. Child and dog friendly, and both were well behaved during my visit, although the locals werfe maybe a bit standoffish. Still a good place to spend some time. No food, but two restaurants across the busy highway do takeout.“

“Barracks built in 1838, nicely preserved. Brewpub taproom downstairs, event space upstairs, and even an inn where you can spend the night. Brewhouse itself must be off site I'm guessing. Beers are fine, not too many NEIPAs, and you can do a flight of four. Food is just OK pub grub. Worth a stop even if just for the surroundings.“

“In September Stopped in as we were going through town. Just stopped in and picked up a Crowler (cause of Covid). Seemed like a nice small place. Good DPIA too.“

“Very interesting location in an old barracks, unique. Very spread out tables so challenging for the waitresses. Good beer and food, worth a stop.“

“Met the Brands here for lunch on the Patio. Nice big clean restored army barracks. Had about 8 beers on tap. The beer was good and the food was good too. Large portions and fair price. Enjoyable time hee.“

“Station-service/Dunkin Donut/Dépanneur ayant une sélection respectable de bières (ainsi que quelques hydromels et cidres) toutes conservées au froid. Le choix est plutôt bon, plusieurs options à l'unité et plusieurs 4 packs. Ils ont aussi une station de crowlers/growlers. Pas vraiment de service et prix très corrects. Un must lors d'une journée à la plage pas très loin.“

“It is a gas station/minimart, BUT it has ~10 taps and 200+ bottles. It does have the usual beers, but also many great crafts - local, national and international. I presume most of the attendants know little about the beers, but the guy there when I went in was very knowledgeable and helpful. A great place for Plattsburgh.“

“Not sure about their other beers, but I enjoyed their DIPA. Service was friendly and helpful. Plattsburgh has changed since I grew up around here - for the better !!“

“Not a bad place, but not really a beer geek’s destination. The norm - Lake Placid, Adirondack, Saranac with some macros. Happening sort of place. I do like their wings, that’s a plus, but more of a college-ish sort of atmosphere, so not really my thing any more.“

“Decent place down by the water, nice to hit up in the Summer, just to look out upon Lake Champlain. But not really a beer destination. Gets loud here, and actually not much of a place to take kids. Now that I have custody of my son, probably no need for me to go back here.“

“Cool spot in the old military barracks area. Former fire station really well re-purposed. Spent some time at the bar talking to the owner/brewer, great guy. Beer was pretty well done, decent range. Would go back for sure.“

“This is a cool place that is located in an old fire station that was attached to an old military barracks. It’s simple, comfortable, and unassuming. Decor has some distressed wood, which creates a homey feel. Bar area has a slick draught tower. 5 beers were on tap today, and they were all clean. Had a nice chat with the brewer, who is a really nice, down to earth guy. He was kind enough to offer me a sample of his lager, which was still fermenting All in all, this is a comfortable place, and I hope they do really well.“

Richard’s Grocery (Grocery Store)

“This tiny little bottle shop is basically located on the porch of a neighborhood home. It is quite comical, but is a small oasis in a huge beer wasteland. They have some Unibroue, Ommegang, some Belgian Trappist Ales , New England Micros, Goose Island. They also have a larger walk-in cooler, where some additional beers may be found. Impressive selection for the area, and a surprising location for craft beer given the exterior and location of this place. Prices are quite fair and reasonable.~~~~~~~Re-Rate~~~~~~~6/2/16 This place is still good. Lots of good choices that a few of the other beer places in town don’t have. It’s still definitely worth visiting, especially if you’re in the area at Oval Brewing and Valcour Brewing.“

“This is a good place located within a gas station. It’s very similar to Bark’s Beer Cave. Decent-sized walk-in cooler with a good, diverse selection. Probably the best you’re going to find in the Plattsburgh area. I believe they do growlers. Prices a little high, but I guess they can get away with it due to the lack of good beer retailers locally.“

“Columbus Day road trip brought me here, as I figured New York might get some stuff I can’t get in Vermont, and that is true as I did find some Flying Dog and Stillwater. The place has that convenience store-esque feel, but honestly after having negative results with finding any other open beer stores in the Plattsburgh area, I’d say this place does the trick.“

“Located in middle of residential zone, you really have the impression of going into someones house. They have a pretty good selection of U.S.craft beers; as good as Bark’s. The only negative point is that bottles on top shelves were warmer than those on the lower shelves. A bit of AC would help.“

“Very convenient for Québécois or Canadians looking for good U.S. beers not very far from the border. If you love hiking the Adirondacks, it’s a good idea to bring back some American beers on your way back. Very good selection for a gas station / convenience store. Don’t expect knowledgeable service, but if you know what you’re looking for, they have a pretty wide range of of major American craft beers.“

“I visited this establishment yesterday. Once you enter, you have to take a right and go straight up the stairs. To your left, there will be the brewing area, and the spacious bar area is directly in front of you. This is your typical sports-bar type place with a bunch of TVs, all on mute. There were just a couple people there. They had about 8 beers on tap, and the beers I had were surprisingly good. Much better than anything Bootleggers ever had. I especially liked the Robust Porter, and the Barleywine was decent, too. The food there is below average pub faire. The salsa was Tostitos brand salsa. The bartender we had was inattentive and just more worried about talking about random shit with co-workers. I asked for no sour cream with the nachos (they arrived on the side), and I asked for a room temperature pint glass, and I received a frosted one. Which begs to say, why are they serving their beer in frozen glasses? All in all, the beer is much better here than Bootleggers, but everything else is pretty much on par with it.“

“Legends Bistro is a decent sized brewpub, situated on the second floor of the Comfort Inn complex, on the reconstructed site of the Bootlegger. The decor is modern cosey commercial brewpub, with a decent food menu (flatbreads, sliders, fish and chips), decent portions from what I’ve seen and good prices. They have 8 regular beers and 3 seasonals, run of the mill in most cases. Service was good, but place was empty (Sunday 4PM). If your in Plattsburgh only.“

“Very good selection for a gas station. Does not look like it but the fridges are full of good Stone’s, DOgfish, Smuttynose, Unibroue, begium selections and I pass. Very pleasant surprise just 1 km away from the 87!!! “

“A very good selection for the region. Some uncommon/rare stuff and a lot of popular but very good beers. I was there on may 29th (last week) and there was around 100 different beers. The service was OK, but the guy who was there when I was there didn’t knew much about these beers. But he was very kind and showed me the "specials" beers that were in stock. Since it’s not a real beer store, you can’t expect to have hundreds of beers but it’s really worth the "detour"... And you can fill your car with gas too: basically, it’s a Gas Station! WiFi is available, it’s nice to find ratings on RateBeer.“

“This new beer location is located at the Shell station just off the southbound interstate exit 36. At first glance, it appears to be your regular gas station and mini-mart, but this has a nice walk in cooler with a decent lineup of micros. They had some DFH, Ommegang, Delerium, Oskar Blues, Sourthern Tier, Lagunitas, Racer 5, Goose Island, and a few other New England micros as well. They also have some decent beer located in the traditional door coolers where many place like to keep the macro swill. The girl at the register was friendly enough, and even offered to help bring the beer out to my truck for me. All in all, it’s really awesome to find a decent place like this in the beer wasteland that is Plattsburgh. Hopefully their business does well and they can expand their selection in the future.“
