58 /100 EERIKINKATU 18 The best thing about this place is the ambiance. Interesting inside (it used to be school) and with a large beer garden (including a small playground for the kids). Beers and food are OK nothing more or less |
92 /100 GRANIITTILINNANKATU 2 Waaaaaaaay up a hill. You can take the funicular or taxi or walk it. Old prison complex being redeveloped. Really cool location. Brews were very good. Service also good. Very good choice in Turku. |
70 /100 Gastropub Ravintola Hiivari (Restaurant) KÄSITYÖLÄISKATU 5 Classic brown basement restaurant, spacious area, with beautiful interior such as chandeliers and jukebox and piano. Good finnish home cooking. Some microbrews. You can invite ladies to dinner here. |
70 /100 Alvar (Bar) HUMALISTONKATU 7 On a corner but entrance from Humalistonkatu. Opens at 14 note on door said. Google said 18. Mixed interior and furniture as from flee market, but nicely composed though. Old english pop music played. Several interesting taps, and three coolheads. I had a Kimito Ölvar, almost sounds as house beer. |
54 /100 AlePub Telakka (Bar) EERIKINKATU 6 Opening hours were from 12 when I visited the place, note on door but not on fb/google. Minimalistic modern macroish. Just aleright pub. Nothing outstanding. |
70 /100 EERIKINKATU 8 In an old city building on the corner of Eerikinkatu and Kauppakato at the eastern corner of the big square.
Always fresh Teerenpelis. Interior is not as old as exterior, I felt. Okay place, but beerish the neighbour Skaal is a significant level up. |
50 /100 Hunter’s Inn (Bar) BRAHENKATU 3 Situated to the east, nearby street crossing Erik street and Braha street. This is where turkians go to have a little irish-english feeling and a Guinness. |
62 /100 Woolshed Gastropub Turku (Bar) YLIOPISTONKATU 29B Tempting dishes with steak or burgers. 18 taps. Some with "Woolshed", which have beers from Germany. I'll try to find out if the brewery is traceable. The house lager is good. |
82 /100 KASKENKATU 1 I visited New Pharmacy (=Uusi Apteeki) at 14 to avoid crowds. Pharmacy interior as since 1906. Only minor changes done to it, to make it a beer pub. Many high quality well known imports on tap.
I found a Mallassepat. Beerfrigerators have exclusive beers. Good beerspot. |
76 /100 EERIKINKATU 18 Located in an old former school building. Koulu is finnish for school. Ten taps, of which six beers, three ciders, and one lonk. Kitchen opens at three o'clock. I got peanuts and six 1-decilitre tasters. Interesting place. |
66 /100 K-Supermarket Turku C (Grocery Store) KRISTIINANKATU 8 Very convenient with this supermarket centrally located, good for tourists in hotels nearby. Varied selection. |
40 /100 Alko Turku - Kauppahalli (Beer Store) EERIKINKATU 16 H Old market-building. Architecture is interesting. This Alko is not a normal one. Kind of small exhibition office |
60 /100 Alko Turku - Skanssi (Beer Store) SKANSSINKATU 10 This Alko is still rather small. I was here also some years ago. The K-Citymarket is a stronger beerspot in Skanssi. |
72 /100 Alko Turku - Itäharju (Beer Store) KALEVANTIE 41 Alko Itäharju (Österås) today had 238 beers, which is very good.
Located together with Prisma hypermarket. Good parking. |
84 /100 Alko Turku - Kupittaa (Beer Store) UUDENMAANTIE 17 Alko Kupittaa (in Kuppis Citymarket)
has about 300 beers, very good, best in Turku.
Car parking has a sonewhat odd position to the west from the northwestern edge of the building, but alright, I found it. |
54 /100 Alko Turku - Hirvensalo (Beer Store) VANHA KAKSKERRANTIE 1 Hirvensalo Alko has approx 100 beers as a small Alko, situated in a somewhat small K-Supermarket on the countryside.
Hirvensalo is an island to the west of Turku. Hirv is elk. Salo is sliver. |
64 /100 Alko Turku - Manhattan (Beer Store) PITKÄMÄENKATU 4 150 beers, not bad, for a small Alco
situated inside a medium sized S-Market. Just okay parking. |
80 /100 Alko Turku - Länsikeskus Citymarket (Beer Store) MARKULANTIE 150 It's inside a K-Citymarket. Good car parking. And 255 beers, which makes this Alko possibly the best of Turku. |
76 /100 Alko Turku - Tampereentie (Beer Store) VANHA TAMPEREENTIE 108 Located in an hypermarket, Prisma.
Parking for three hunded cars. And 170 beers. |
78 /100 Alko Wiklund (Beer Store) KAUPPIASKATU 9 Located centrally in Turku in Wiklund Shopping together with a supermarket. I found beers that Stockmann lacked. 3toRune. Satisfied. |
78 /100 Alko Turku - Stockmann (Beer Store) YLIOPISTONKATU 22 Centrally located in Turky in a Stockmann Shopping with a supermarket as neighbour. Quite good selection of beers, and local brews are on different shelves. But I got good service, and found almost all I wanted. |
60 /100 City Hospoda (Bar) EERIKINKATU 16 Beer list as sep2022 is Urquell, Kozel, Carlsberg, Karhu, and some english and finnish micros. No Kofola. |
72 /100 Cosmic Comic Cafe (Bar) KAUPPIASKATU 4 Opening hours are 16-24, two hours extra friday and saturday, and not open sundays nor mondays. Amazing beerfridgerators. |
48 /100 Tiirikkala (Restaurant) LINNANKATU 3 Cozy cafe in old building. Beer repertoire is short. I had a pepsi and lohipiirakka. |
74 /100 Cup and Pint (Bar) HUMALISTONKATU 17B Corner located Pub with pizzas, a dozen taps, mixed interior, modest pop radio music. The Kakola pale ale served in proper glassware. I chose Pizza Prince Louis, to avoid the disgusting vegan cheese, many other pizzas had. |
72 /100 Mallaskukko (Bar) YLIOPISTONKATU 37 Quiet on sunday early afternoon. This beerspot (beer hall Google says) runs interesting import, from Amager, Brewdog, big german brands and other. No food available, though I think I saw the word "ravintola" somewhere. I had a big new sour ipa from Brewdog as pre-dinner. |
34 /100 GRANIITTILINNANKATU 2 Unreachable on sundays. Only Bakery Café shortly open. |
42 /100 K-Extra Puhakka Turku (Grocery Store) HÄMEENKATU 5 Not a very big shop. Two kilometres to the east nearby downtown. Convenience store-like. Maybe it was more beerish in 2014. |
56 /100 K-Citymarket Turku Kupittaa (Grocery Store) UUDENMAANTIE 17 K-Citymarket 2,5kms to the east from downtown. Funny parking location to the northwest from the northwestern corner of the building. Average beer selection. |
60 /100 K-Citymarket Turku Skanssi (Grocery Store) ITÄKAARI 20 About 6 kms to the south, standard hypermarket in a shopping centre. I was there also some years ago. Beer selection is just adequate. Car parking also alright. |
68 /100 Prisma Tampereentie (Beer Store) VANHA TAMPEREENTIE 108 About 4 kms to the north east from city centre of Turku. More than hundred beers. Local craft beers on their own marked shelves. Nice hypermarket. Alright parking. |
70 /100 K-Citymarket Länsikeskus Turku (Grocery Store) MARKULANTIE 150 4 kms to the north from Turku city centre. Parking in big basement or outside. Regular finnish hypermarket. About 150 beers, including forty to fifty craft beers. |
68 /100 City Hospoda (Bar) EERIKINKATU 16 Just beside Koulu, so very convenient location. Smartish bar/pub feel, more a sit-up-and-beg than a slouch vibe. Nice terrace for people-watching. Opens earlier than many places. Some of the locals are staggering! Great staff, smallest pour was 200ml, which was a shame, but samples were offered, and even a "here, try this" delivered to our table. Large selection - 16 taps and 80 bottles counted. Definitely recommended - we came here 3 times in a 2-day trip! This makes up for the sad loss of Pankki in the Turku scene. |
72 /100 KIERTOTÄHDENTIE 5, VARASTO 26 Has moved to: Kulkuripellontie 3, 21410 Lieto. Open usually on fridays from 12 o 17. |
82 /100 KIERTOTÄHDENTIE 5, VARASTO 26 Has moved to : Kulkuripellontie 3, Lieto. |
76 /100 5piste5 (Beer Store) BRAHENKATU 2 Beer shop / pub in downtown Turku. While small as a place, rather good ~150 beer selection, both Finnish and foreign brews. In particular nice selection of domestic beers not very well available elsewhere in Turku.
Retail until -21 in the evening and limited to 5.5 % as per the law. Selection also contains items that can only be enjoyed on-site. |
70 /100 EERIKINKATU 18 Visited on a Wednesday evening in August 2021. A large place located in an old school building. The large Biergarten was quite popular during my visit. 5 own German style beers on tap during my visit, the beers were ok. Very central location in Turku, only 3 minutes walk from my Hotel, Scandic Plaza. |
68 /100 KASKENKATU 1 Visited on a Wednesday early afternoon in August 2021. Located 10 minutes walk from my Hotel, Scandic Plaza. This is a fairly large bar with an interesting and unigue interior, located in an old pharmacy. The selection on tap was kind of ok, unfortunately no own beers on tap. (I did not check the bottle list) A relaxed atmospere during my visit, but still with some fun characters among the other guests.
|
76 /100 GRANIITTILINNANKATU 2 Visited on a Wednesday in August 2021. It took me 20 minutes to walk to this place from my Hotel, Scandic Plaza. A modern place with a patio located in an expanding arena with new apartments and restaurants. The service was polite and the beers that I tried were decent. 15 beers on tap during my visit, 3 of them were guests. Also a small shop for beers to go. I would not mind to visit this place again. |
50 /100 Kerttulin Kievari (Bar) KELLONSOITTAJANKATU 3-7 This was always a nice enough bar, but it's a whisky nerds bar not a beer nerd's bar. It's certain;ly cozy, and has a nice terrace in summer. Service was just adequate, but the older staff here didn't benefit from the same level of English language education that youngsters elsewhere have had. I think I had to have a 400ml pour of the only thing that was a tick here. (And it was an NEIPA, so bletch!) Might be best to leave this one to the locals, or just come here for the whisky. |
66 /100 Cosmic Comic Cafe (Bar) KAUPPIASKATU 4 Location right at the doors of a shopping centre is a little unusual, but you can sit away from the entrance if the view perturbs you. Wide range of ever-changing beers, but only a few were ticks for a regular Finnish visitor. Fridge has some high quality locals and imports though, some very tempting. No sample pours, alas, so we limited ourself to two and ran. One was kind-of a house brew, they're apparently setting up a small Braumeister or something. Friendly staff, happy to chat about the scene. Definitely worth a visit, and nicely central too, so no excuses. However, beware Finnish prices (you're used to this by now, no?) |
54 /100 Tiirikkala (Restaurant) LINNANKATU 3 No ticks for me, but a limited-distribution smoked pilsner will shut me up and put a smile on my face any day. Clean, and dare I say sophisticated, cafe feel, not really for ugly Pigpens like me. Food supported that presumption - in particular in the sweet department. If you're taking non-beer friends or family around town, certainly pop in here and you might get treated to a surprise on the beer front, but they'll like it as a nice place to relax no matter what you think. |
66 /100 Portti (Bar) HÄMEENKATU 7 Nice little find, worth the walk to the student side of town, it's not far past the church once you've crossed the river. Bright cafe feel. Looked like it had a youthful student vibe, but we got there at opening time, and students would have still been in bed. At least 8 taps, IIRC, including some national ones well worth hunting out, and other more local ones best avoided - locals will know what I'm referring to. Internationals too (Sweden and Scotland were my ticks). Fridge was pretty solid, many high quality craft imports. Staff were friendly and helpful - even managing to direct us to local food recommendations (curry house right opposite gets my vote - we had an excellent business lunch there), as well as hints on the rest of the Turku beer scene (we've been away for many years, it's changed a bit). Alas, has Finnish prices, but all in all quite highly recommended. |
76 /100 Tiirikkala (Restaurant) LINNANKATU 3 Riverside restaurant on the opposite bank to the Cathedral. Terrace in summer; two-storey inside. Decent food and a range of about 20 beers, 80% in bottle, with an eye for smaller independent producers. The best lunch or supper stop in the city for beer. |
88 /100 Cosmic Comic Cafe (Bar) KAUPPIASKATU 4 The best beer bar in Turku by a country mile, so far as I could tell. A sound, resilient range of beers from many countries not least Finland, stronger on British class act beers than most British pubs. It must surely appease tickers - they even had the sainted Westvleteren when I visited. Not the most sophisticated atmosphere, nudged into the side of a small shopping precinct and as expensive as Finland is, but a great place to sit and interesting beers. And there are comics too. |
68 /100 EERIKINKATU 18 A German Bierkeller / Biergarten in Turku. A bit like having a sahti cabin in Wiesbaden. A perfectly decent experience and the world is somewhat the better for it. |
46 /100 Cosmic Comic Cafe (Bar) KAUPPIASKATU 4 Not nice surroundings, no tasters - need to buy 0,2 to taste - really!
Reasonable selection (on tap).
Osta sika säkissä - so 90ies... |
56 /100 EERIKINKATU 18 The place looks quite impressive but other than that? Nothing special. |
68 /100 Cosmic Comic Cafe (Bar) KAUPPIASKATU 4 Central, but a bit hidden, and slightly suspicious looking from the outside, but warm and nice atmosphere inside. Relaxed and fairly cozy with decent tap and bottle selection. Nothing exceptional, but certainly the best I saw in this city at least. Well worth a visit. |
60 /100 EERIKINKATU 18 Another rather special place in Turku, and again not because of the beer selection, food or service or anything like that, but as it's a former school building and they have kept a fair amount of the interior it's quite cool. Typical German style brews that was quite okay, but not standing out in any way. Still a place worth checking out. |
