74 /100 264 CUBA ST Off the beaten track near the end of Cuba Street but well worth the effort. The strip mall setting belies an inviting interior and a great selection of tasty beer and food. The addition of a gin still only adds to the allure. You won’t be disappointed spending some time here I assure you. |
66 /100 Brew’D Island Bay (Restaurant) 163 THE PARADE A cozy pub with lots of chicken sandwiches on the menu. Food was decent, especially since Mackenzie and I were starved after our flight in 2022. Beers selection wasn't particularly big, but they were solid locals. |
74 /100 20 BOND STREET A nice, large brewery on the second floor in downtown Wellington. Smallish outside drinking space. Very large selection of their own brews. Had one of my favorite reuben's ever here. Visited with Mackenzie in 2022. |
68 /100 100 TARANAKI STREET A really spacious brewery in Wellington. Needed to get out of the rain and cold with Mackenzie and we stumbled upon this place. Industrial chic vibe, larger bar, pretty good food. If only the beers were better... |
70 /100 Bebemos (Restaurant) 88 RIDDIFORD STREET Nice spot off the main drag. Average beer list, occasional gems. Good Latin American food. Chill vibe with some outdoor seating. Decent service. |
72 /100 Panhead Tory Street (Bar) 1 TORY STREET, TE ARO Decent chill spot with nice outdoor covered with fake fire area. Good service. Have some experimental beers. Food too but I didn’t try it. Very central location in Te Aro. They have flights for you…er we…tickers. |
58 /100 Little Beer Quarter (Bar) 6 EDWARD STREET Jam packed place in Wellington. Crowd spilled onto the street while I was there. Pub style service, appeared to be food but I'm not sure. Service wasn't great, a little too hipster for me. Decent tap list, but just a little too bonkers. |
68 /100 Garage Project 91 Aro (Bar) 91 ARO STREET As other reviews have noted, this covers the tap room that's two blocks up the street from the brewery itself. Narrow place but cool vibe. Lots of different types of people hanging here. A dozen or so beers on tap, samples OR flights OR half pints offered. Prices are decent. No food, but there's hipster stuff on the strip. |
72 /100 Hashigo Zake (Bar) BASEMENT, 25 TARANAKI STREET Interesting beer bar right in the CBD. Basement, hipster Japanese aesthetic. Nice selection of NZ taps and some international brews as well. Food was mediocre and overpriced. |
78 /100 Hashigo Zake (Bar) BASEMENT, 25 TARANAKI STREET No bottle list, few packaged beer, a few cult beers at exorbitant prices. People are here drinking and it's comfortable. Seems oversold but good. |
78 /100 Regional Wines & Spirits (Beer Store) 15 ELLICE STREET Best bottle store (for beer) in Wellington - no question. Pretty damn good for wines and spirits too. A must visit venue when in town. |
78 /100 128A PARK ROAD Good beers, great service, as of my visit the brewery owners / brewers are doing everything so intimate knowledge of the beers and operation. The sort of place I hope does well. |
80 /100 El Culo del Mundo (Bar) 2 ROXBURGH STREET Mexican / Latin restaurant with a great taplist, run by the Rogue & Vagabond folks. Food was outstanding, beer selection was varied and interesting. Definitely worth a visit. |
82 /100 Bin 44 (Restaurant) 3 QUEENS WHARF A great spot on the quayside. Friendly and enthusiastic staff, and good selection of NZ beers on tap and in bottle; and good food. |
76 /100 The Hop Garden (Bar) 13 PIRIE STREET Decent selection of beer on tap and bottled.
Food was good too - I went on Tuesday steak night where they include a deal including their house pale ale.
Worth a look. |
76 /100 20 BOND STREET Pretty big place, but almost empty around 10 on a Friday night. Lots of tapes, and some fries and stuff left for food. Service was friendly and helpful. Only had one of their own beers which was alright. Decent. |
84 /100 Garage Project 91 Aro (Bar) 91 ARO STREET This is incorrectly listed on Ratebeer as it’s a taproom and not a brewery. The brewery is right across the street though. Small narrow space with some seating but lots of standing room along the wall. Very crowded on Friday evening, though lots of people went home early. Hip people working here, very friendly and offering samples without us asking for them. They offer flights of 4 for $17 which is a great way to try the more expensive offerings. There’s some snacks too. Beer is super good. A must. |
82 /100 68 ARO STREET Old gas station with the brewery inside, and a little shop next to it with some growler taps, merch and some cans and bottles though not a huge selection. This place looks absolutely amazing, part like a squat, part chic trendy stuff. Very friendly people working here. Awesome. Prices are good for growlers, cans and bottles a bit more expensive. |
80 /100 7 LEEDS STREET Big 2 floored space with industrial feel, but also cosy lighting. Outside seating on the 2nd floor. Lots of their own beers and some guests. A flight of 6 good sized glasses is $25 which is a good deal considering a lot of beers here are around the $12 mark. Super friendly service and free WiFi. It was quite crowded at Friday late afternoon/early evening. Thoroughly enjoyed it here. |
80 /100 Regional Wines & Spirits (Beer Store) 15 ELLICE STREET Huge wine store with a big walk-in beer fridge. Lots of NZ craft, but also a huge selection of Belgian beers and quite some UK. Prices seemed competitive. Atmosphere is just like a big upmarket liquor store. Nice. |
94 /100 68 ARO STREET À faire absolument. C’etait LA chose à faire sur ma liste en arrivant à Wellington. Brewerie + TapRoom ;) |
74 /100 The Rogue & Vagabond (Bar) 18 GARRETT STREET Fairly hipster dive bar type feel. Good range of taps, seemed to be a few days removed from a Funk Estate tap takeover. Staff were friendly. Worth a look. |
70 /100 264 CUBA ST Another fairly trendy modern brewpub in Wellington. Beers are pretty good, with a reasonable range. Food sounded good but wasn't hungry. Flights available. |
64 /100 100 TARANAKI STREET Modern, somewhat sterile appearance. Beers were interesting, flights available but the menu said only until 5pm. Service was fine. A pleasant place to visit, and apparently the food is good, but given the selection of brewpubs in Wellington now I wouldn't say this was a must visit. |
80 /100 62 GHUZNEE STREET Very trendy, nicely laid out bar. Flights on offer. Only Choice Bros. beer on tap, which is no problem with me. Apparently has a very impressive selection of cellared beer but not in the regular menu and I didn't have time anyway. Food all sounded fantastic, will have to eat here next time. |
80 /100 7 LEEDS STREET Fairly trendy place with a comfortable aesthetic. Good range of beers with lots of styles represented. Flights of 6 available for $25. Staff were extremely friendly. |
84 /100 Garage Project 91 Aro (Bar) 91 ARO STREET Garage Project's very small taproom, basically a hallway with some seating. Hipster bartenders, good beer, cramped seating. Pop in, grab a beer and wait for a seat to open up. Great people watching. |
62 /100 Hashigo Zake (Bar) BASEMENT, 25 TARANAKI STREET Not sure what the hype is here. Not many local draft options, strange dungeon like bar. Kind of felt like I was breaking the law being in here. Music wasn't great either. Food was just ok. Probably would not return. |
86 /100 20 BOND STREET Huge place, 2nd floor. Half of it is a restaurant, the other is a bar. Seemed to be very busy during a NZ/England cricket match. Beers were pretty good, didn't try the food. |
84 /100 Little Beer Quarter (Bar) 6 EDWARD STREET Solid little spot, feels like you are in someone's house, very cozy. 14 taps along with a hand pump line. Good music while we were in there. Staff was very chill. We ate some chips there that were pretty tasty. |
74 /100 20 BOND STREET This place wasn't my cup of tea - large industrial-type bar. Not as busy as I might have expected given that it was a weekend evening. Nice to see cask beer on but apart from that, I wasn't overly impressed with the beers I tried. Flights available which is always a bonus. |
86 /100 Garage Project 91 Aro (Bar) 91 ARO STREET Loved this place - probably the best brewery in NZ for my money. Very busy on the weekend afternoon that I visited but still managed to grab a seat easily enough. Flights available so you can try some of their big-hitters for cheap. Good service too, give you a run-down of all of the beers upon ordering. A must-visit in Wellington. |
80 /100 Ministry of Food (Restaurant) 105 THE TERRACE Now located at 105 The Terrace.
3 local taps plus a decent selection of local bottles.
Food's good too - platters to share plus a decent selection of entree's & main courses.
The duck liver parfait was delicious.
Worth a look if you happen to be in the area. |
84 /100 Regional Wines & Spirits (Beer Store) 15 ELLICE STREET Decent walk in fridge with a host of NZ craft selection plus a whole section dedicated to imports.
Picked up a few local brews here that I haven't seen further north.
Also taps for growlers if you are that way inclined.
Worth a look if you are in Wellington and looking for something different selection wise.
Friendly knowledgeable staff too. |
78 /100 62 GHUZNEE STREET Best place to score a beer with breakfast in the city (you can't drink all day without starting in the morning)! Seriously, one of the nicest craft beer bars in Wellington - made even better by the excellent food (like the best blueberry muffins in town). |
92 /100 Garage Project 91 Aro (Bar) 91 ARO STREET One of my favorite beer place in Welly: Cool staff, good beers with a lot of different ones, nice music and not too crowded: Perfect. |
86 /100 20 BOND STREET Cool staff, tasty beers, nice place, just a little bit disappointed by the food but really nice bar in general, a must do in Wellington. |
80 /100 Hashigo Zake (Bar) BASEMENT, 25 TARANAKI STREET Not a big fan of the ambiance of the bar but it’s just my opinion. Good selection but the bottles are a little bit too expensive.
Not my favorite craft beer bar in the city but still a good place, in my top 5. |
98 /100 Little Beer Quarter (Bar) 6 EDWARD STREET Cool people, comfortable place, great beers, good music. My favorite craft beer bar in Welly! |
82 /100 20 BOND STREET Fun place, with a huge tap selection around a giant barrel with quirky taps. Staff were extremely friendly. Beer selection features a fairly unbelievable 33 taps of their own beer when we were there. Taster trays of only 4 beers make it hard to do the place justice, though at $15 they are very reasonably priced. F&B beers can be a little hit and miss, though with so many taps, and the staff being happy to give you tasters, it’s not too hard to find the hits. |
84 /100 Hashigo Zake (Bar) BASEMENT, 25 TARANAKI STREET Effortlessly cool place. Staff helpful and friendly, though didn’t go out of their way to talk about beer. Tap selection was well varied and featured some very interesting beers, despite its relatively small size. Bottle selection looked impressive, but is far too expensive. Certainly worth the trip. |
80 /100 68 ARO STREET Great little cellar door. The brewery is literally an old gas station, and the decor is very modern industrial chic. Staff are very friendly, and extremely willing to let you try all the growler taps / talk you through the beers. Decent bottle selection at standard liquor store prices, and a bunch of merch too. |
74 /100 D4 on Featherston (Bar) LEVEL 1, 143 FEATHERSTON STREET An upatairs bar with big screen sport on ... the food was average ... beer list is goid though..... draught and bottles... |
92 /100 20 BOND STREET 27 Home brews on ..... and 5 guest ales .... this place is defo eorth a visit if you are in Wellington... |
68 /100 New World Railway Station (Grocery Store) WELLINGTON RAILWAY STATION Supermarket on the station...ok for beers ... |
88 /100 Little Beer Quarter (Bar) 6 EDWARD STREET Chill ass joint off an alleyway in Wellington. The ’biance crushes it. Maybe 10 taps but interesting NZ stuff off the beaten path. You’ll find what you need. Lots of bottles too. A place you can hang out all night, maybe take a date or whatevs. Highly recommended. |
84 /100 68 ARO STREET A killer brewery tasting room in Wellington. Looks like a gas (or is it petrol to these people?) station coming in. Ends up being a brewery. Who knew. Met a dude there also a Bay Area American. Stop ruining my exotic Kiwi cultural experience, American dude. But anyway, beers. They are good. The GP is one of the more innovative breweries in the N-zed, but admittedly they save a bunch of the more crazy stuff for 91 Aro (a sales pitch that sent me over to 91 Aro, but to be fair it lived up to the hype). Try about 7-8 beers for free, then leave with a bottle or some paraphernalia or whatnot. Good times. Get ticks. |
