“This was a nice find on our way back from hiking in Gunpowder Falls State Park. The store is in a strip center anchored by a grocery store. The place is open with shelved beers and cooler-kept beers. There is a nice selection of local and regional brews with some Belgians sprinkled in, including a fair selection of Lambics. Definitely worth a stop.“

“Wine is the focus here, but it’s worth checking out. The atmosphere is very nice and the store is big and spacious. There are some craft beers along the wall, with six-pack holders so you can pick out singles easily. Prices were decent.“

“Wine, liquor and beer store, not one that focuses on craft beer. Overall decent selection, limited singles but some good interesting choices. Large place. Does a good job for what it aspires to be.“

“This is more like it. This is a serious liquor store especially when it comes to scotch. The wine is off to the right and the beer is in the back with the BMC way in the back. The beer seems thoughtfully put together with lots if seasonals and a fairly good pick six collection. The prices are 10-20% less then you would find at Calvert and the store is a lot cleaner and the beer isnt gathering dust.“

“Beer is definitely an afterthought here. Wine dominates most of the shelves here with liquor being consigned to the back and beer relegated to the coolers on the right side and a few shelves on the left. The had a few seasonals but they were near the window which is not cool. A lot of the beer looked dusty. They have a walkin cooler but they use an area in the back right section as their own personal refridgerator which is off-putting. The selection is comparable to what you’d find at a Wegman’s in northern Virginia. The prices are on the high side. Update 7-12-13 Calvert wine has moved to the next building over, has renamed themselves, and now faces Wegman’s which they may or may not have a connection with. But the primary ownership remains the same, the phone number is the same, and web searches for Calvert now refer to this store. It’s a 180 from the old Calverts mainly in that it physically looks like the beer and wine section of Wegmans leesburg down to the color scheme, the fine wine room, the similar shelving, the similar pick 6 display, the similar branding, as well as the similar POS, and the similar selection which isn’t going to compare with the interesting things you can find at Shawan Liquors down the road but its better than most grocery stores and similar sized liquor stores. And the prices are a lot better. Unfortunately they don’t accept the Wegman card.“

“Stopped in here a few time now. Tucked into a nice strip mall is this gem of a liquor store. Walking in you can’t help but get a little excited. This place is HUGE. I would say it is as big as the "super" state store near my house but they don’t sell beer. The service was decent. They seemed to be more interested in standing outside smoking cigs. rather than answering some of the other peoples questions. I really didn’t need any help but they did and there was only one person to help them. The quality was really good. They had plenty of great beers from all over the world. From west coast gems, to the classic belgians. Their liquor selection was phenomenal and so was their beer selection. Any place that carries pappy van winkle deserves a high score in my book. I picked up a magnum of OSA for $15 and a Cantillon Kriek 100% Lambic for $17. The prices were very reasonable compared to most bottle shops in PA. I have no doubt that I will return in the future.“

“Large place, plenty of domestic and import micros, including a ton of regional stuff. Well organized. Occasional rarities, and a handful of aged stuff. Very friendly and helpful staff. Worth a stop.“

“This is located in the Hunt Valley Towne Centre, near I-83 and York Road. Beer is located in wooden shelving near the windows; most of the floorspace is dedicated to wine. Beer is also located in the coolers lining the opposite wall. Decent selection of micros and Belgians, nothing over the top, but a good variety. Chimay, Victory Wild Devil, many DFH’s, a few Rochefort’s, even some Mikkeller. Not a bad place to get lost in while you’re stuck in shopping purgatory.“

“Went on a beer trip with fellow Knight AFI96 after work. Inside the beer selection was very nice !!! which included J.W Lees, Ommegang, Thomas Hardy, De Dolle, and Avery. The staff was friendly, the prices were really good, and i shall return sometime soon. :) The only problem that i have with beer store is that they do not have price stickers on all of the shelves.“

“Went here on a whim with brew brother BeerGestapo after work. Very pleasant surprise. Nice selection especially of vintages like JW Lees and Thomas Hardy, with some excellent prices. Friendly helpful staff. Nice selection of Belgians as well.“

“An excellent beer store. The clerk said I couldn’t take singles out of sixers but they have a good selection of singles anyway. I picked up Troegs Nugget Nectar (main reason for going in the first place), some Rogue, Weyerbacher, Stone Ruination, Bear Republic Racer 5, and some Clipper City. The prices were very good too. I had to get out of there before I did even more damage.“

“Good Selection, pleanty of East Coast stuff as well as a fair selection of imports. Seemed to be able to buy anything as a single although it was not advertised as such. Service wasn’t anything to speak of, spent 20 minutes in the beer section & no one approached me. Good Wine & Spirit selection as well. I would shop here if I lived in this area.“

“This store is great. Their prices are amazing, absolutely nothing is marked up just because they are the only store to carry it. The staff are very friendly and willing to help, one time I got there ten minutes after they closed and the guy came out and held the store open just so I could come in and grab what I wanted. They are always getting new stuff in, and their belgian selection grows all the time. Overall, you can’t beat this store, for the prices and service alone. You can find Mikkeller, 0lFabrikken, N0gne, De Dolle, etc etc. as well as every american micro that is shipped to MD, including Stone Beers.“

“I consider this the 2nd best store in Maryland, only behind State Line. Serious quality selection. One of the better stores in the area, considering price and selection. I have been able to get anything they have as a single bottle, and along with their comprehensive regional micro selection they have a very large Belgian and German selection, even with 2-5 year old Belgian bottles. A great store that I visit on my way out of the Baltimore/DC area. Highly recommended.“

“Wide selection of Mid-Atlantic regionals, and other quality beers. Good singles pricing. Clean store, prompt service, looked like a good wine selection too. I picked up 12 beers that I’d not had (and that’s hard sometimes, even for a good liquor store) with easily another 20-30 beers that I’ve not had still sitting on the shelves.“

“Second visit, first time since joining ratebeer. They now share space with a deli. This is a perfect place to stop if you are heading up to PA or heading back from PA going to BWI Airport. Why? You can avoid the case laws of PA and they have a very nice selection of beer. Some domestics from Victory, DFH, Weyerbacher, Stoudt’s, Jolly Pumpkin, Clipper City, Troegs, Smuttynose, etc. They also have a small but good selection of Belgians. I did not find anything too rare on this visit, but I still ended up spending $50. They have a moderate selection of singles for purchase, and they are reasonably priced compared to other shops. This is not too far off the I-83 exit for Shawan Road. Worth a visit.“

“This place has an excellent selection. Perhaps due to not being in Baltimore proper it has been overlooked, but is well worth the trip. Belgians (Rodenbach, De Dolle, etc). Uerige and other Germans, British beers, Maryland well covered along with Weyerbacher, DFH, 3F, Smuttynose, Troegs, Clay Pipe, etc.“

“Bit surprised to be the first. Great store at the intersection of York and Shawan in the county. Recently expanded and has one of the best selections in the area, including some rare items I haven’t seen elsewhere. The staff can be helpful and friendly depending on when you are there. Singles shelf, walk-in cooler, apparant large selection of liquor and wine, attached sub shop.“
