“Newer addition to beer scene, just down road from the whole foods, beer is set up in a few aisles that are nicely laid out, interesting mix of things both in cold boxes and sitting on shelf, some nice oferings from free will, and some others that I don’t see often in DE, ability to make your own 6 pack, but doesn’t seem like everything is available in singles, some singles have different prices. Most beers seemed to be fairly fresh and in date..the pub is unique about this place though, the beer prices were crazy good at the pub, almost everything was between 4-6 dollars, including Nimble Giant, food I tried was good, Bavarian pretzels were tasty as well as iceberg wedge with hangar steak, prices were also good on the food, worth a stop if hungry and looking for some nice offerings from a variety of places with some rarities out there to be had“

“This one is very close to a McKenzie’s. Going in (as of today), it’s immediately on the left side, just to the left of all the barrels of coffee beans. A cool (cold!) beer cave that would be a welcome respite in the summer, kegs and bottles to take out, reasonably-priced mix-a-six with different price tiers, and the best part, an actual bar! It’s really a small coffee shop, but the baristas also pull from eight taps, and I saw people drinking wine, as well. So sit down and have a pint before shopping, or fill a growler to go. Honestly a little disappointed with the Whole Foods itself; not quite as extensive as others I have seen (though still nice!), and not as good as local Wegman’s(es), though far better than the nearby Trader Joe’s.

Has your faro, Evil Twin, Dark Horse (!?), and Philly locals.“

“Some devices may need a Glen Mills entry for the city, but the location is Chadds Ford. There’s a Whole Foods a few hundred feet away (worth a look, can also sit and drink a pint), a homebrew shop less than a mile up the road (closed for the day when I visited), and a Trader Joe’s maybe two miles in the other direction (no beer), and a winery not far away; this is a section of country dominated by miles and miles of strip malls in every direction, though some of them higher-end. This building (a huge space inside!) is located in the middle of a very wide median on this road, so you’re always going to be making a left turn to get in and out (my GPS had it on the right, necessitating some U-ies and leading me to the other places). Nice to sit outside around sunset, bar inside can be a little loud.

Anyway, I came for the Saison and had a sampler, 9 beers in curvy little 5-oz tasting glasses for $9.50; beers were all clean but heavy and most pretty bland; the Saison was the only clear winner of the group and most I’d call "average at best." Food was avg to above-avg, certainly better than most brewpub fare, service was pleasant and attentive. Prices were fine, maybe a bit high on some items, but probably par for the area. Walking out I saw the plaques earned from the GABF, basically medals for every year, and couldn’t help but furrow my brow. Overall, I’m willing to try the other locations but am probably done with this one.“

“This is a solid Whole Foods (althought not quite as good as Devon). Small cooler with a decent sized bar to drink at. Some nice brews come through, especially imports. Service is below Devon but fine.“

“Visit during RBSG 2011. Great little brew house. I didn’t have any food but it looked tasty. Nice selection of about 8 beers on tap and a couple of their beers in bottles. Above average for the most part. Some really nice saisons.“

“Great place to shop for vegan/ vegetarian as well as customary food. Upscale grocery store with very good selection of local and notorious craft breweries throughout USA.“

“Small off to the side of store pub style setting that has 5 taps for growler fills and draft offerings..prices are reasonable for growler fill..seem to have mostly local drafts but recently had some better variety..they just got a boat load of 2 hearted so if looking for this..they have some..didn’t sample food but they seem to have basic pub type snacks small plates at the bar..most of bottled offerings are kept cold in the walkin..a bit cramped in there and they don’t offer singles of all offerings but do have bells, founders, lost abbey..which isn’t available in DE..have picked up some Russian river here as well in past..none this time..decent stopping point but not really worthy of a single stop destination..“

“Beer section is tiny and tight quarters. Servers/workers seem overwhelmed and minimally knowledgeable as relates to beer. The selection focuses on locals so nothing too interesting to be found on their taps. Prices are fair to good but the selection is ho hum as craft beer goes...just the usual suspects. Decent enough for a sixer if youre in the neighborhood but not nearly as good as whole foods devon.“

“Stopped in here on a nice spring afternoon and took a seat on the porch. We had great service from our waitress even if she wasn’t all that knowledgeable about the beer. The food was top-notch. Not like most pub grub, this was a little classier and therefore a little pricier. The Meatloaf was very tasty. I had the "premium" beer sampler which only meant I got to try the two seasonal as well as the regular lineup. All were very well made. I ended up ordering a glass of the Vautour after my sampler as that is what brought me here in the first place. Great and easy saison. Out of the way for me otherwise I’d become a regular here.“

“Tucked inside of what looks to be a dismantled and reassembled gazebo/ weird tiki-shack. Awful beer on display in front: trite, expected varieties of local beers and macro-nonsense. 8 draft lines all filled with typically boring and thoroughly average local stuff. Food selection is fair, reasonably enjoyable, even. Seating and atmosphere is mediocre and somewhat confused between a retail shop and a bar. There’s a small cooler in the back with the same trite, and uniformly average selection of marginally local varieties. A few bombers, mostly odd selections. Trying too hard to push the local angle, and it just comes across as an amateur effort. There are kegs in the way of a bunch of the macro varieties, which I’m fine with, except that the whole venue was obviously designed by someone with no forethought or understanding of the bar/bottle shop context. Value is great, however— best prices around for their limited selection. Growlers usually range from $8-$14. Pints will tend to be $3-$5. Didn’t have any of their coffee (I forgot to mention there’s a coffee barista station behind the bar as well). Nothing desirable about this place for anyone looking for a destination point. But hey, if you’re a random, confused shopper who already happens to be in the store, stop on in and get an education in mediocrity! No reason for me to go back.“

“Good place to try when visiting the Brandywine Valley. Large bar and restaurant areas, tastefully decorated. Live music on weekends. Service was efficient but cold. Had a good meal from a pretty big menu. About 8 everyday and 6 seasonal beers on tap, and we ordered exclusively from the seasonal side. Would recommend but hope you get a friendlier bartender.“

“Very nice draft selection...occasional pliny appearance even. Lots of usual suspects but keep an eye out for random craft appearances. Watch out cause they’ll ruin yer beer with a frozen glass if you don’t warn em! Nice bottles and fair prices. Service is friendly but not knowledgeable. Food is from the attached hooters restaurant so you do the math. Pretty dark and uncomfortable...loud and "club-like" on the wrong night.“

“Visited during RBSG 2011. Not sure which location I went to but oh well. Had a few tasty beers. Just love the brewing climate up here in Philly. So far ahead of NC still. Good service considering our huge crowd overtaking the outdoor bar.“

“Typical brewpub with a big seating area and a very large bar with tons of TVs. Service was pretty attentive. They were able to seat our group of 10 with just an hour’s notice, and our waiter didnt seem to mind doing 5 different checks for us. We were kind of a pain. Food was fantastic. I had the chicken cheese steak with gouda, and it was positively delicious. Pretty good selection of beers. I believe they had 6 regular brews and 3 seasonals. They were not the best, but pretty impressive for a small brewpub. The saison and pale ale were my favorites. 2 meals and 4 beers ran me about $43 before tip, so I have to say it was quite affordable. A nice place. I’d go back if I for some reason found myself in the area again.“

“Wanted to find out if the Saison Vautour and its GABF gold medals was all its cracked up to be and it was! A very nice brewpub nice big bar and plenty of seating area with plenty of tv’s ... the food was excellent nice variety of soups, salads and sandwiches/entrees ... the staff was the problem the bartender we had did not know much about beer besides the names and was not friendly ... other than that i grabbed a growler of the saison for $13.99 with the growler included and really enjoyed the brewpub the food was a little overpriced but was good so I didn’t mind much ... definitely seek out this place and the Saison Vautour“

“Been to the Glen Mills location twice now. The food is okay, if a bit pricey. The beer is average to slightly above. The Saison Vautour, which is listed as a normal house beer, is really excellent. The rest of the offerings were solid, but unspectacular. 6 house brews and two seasonals when I visited. The servicepeople don’t know much about the beer, but are friendly enough. Not a bad place, but not really worth going out of your way for.“

“Had lunch here on a very rainy Saturday afternoon. Sat at the bar. Service was OK, not spectacular. The beers were solid, and the Sticky Fingers was delicious. Had a mushroom-bacon-bleu cheese pizza that was really good. Prices were fair, and I picked up a couple of 750s to go. They’re another place that annoyingly do not fill other brand growlers. The bartender did so, than got bawled out by his manager. They charged me for a growler even though he filled one I brought - so he gave me an empty growler to take. Would definitely go here again.“

“Checked it out on a slow sunday... I have been there before just not recently. Lots of room to park. Two big open bars, plenty of seating elsewhere. The bartender knew the basics about beer but thats it. Very friendly. I didnt eat but the food looked okay... Nothing special was on tap. Overall just your average brewpub“

“beer tour 09/25/08 Ordered the beer sampler, which was very extensive, 9 selections in all, and honestly, I though all the beers were quite good. The Saison had the typical Belgian taste, but also incorporated some hoppiness as well. Even the light lager was very drinkable, and the black lab stout really stuck out. Food was good, although only my wife had something, a chili she thought was a little spicy for her taste (probably perfect for me). decent value, and worth a return trip.“

“Small selection, to me. I am not a fan of their standard beers, and usually only go to try new brews. Parking can be very hard as they do not have enough spaces. Smoking sucks. All of the food I have had has been tasty, well prepared, and presented hot. Service is average. As with many places I feel like they are always around when you don’t need anything, and MIA when you do. Nice TVs.“

“We stumbled on this place while doing a NJ/PA brewery tour and went in and had a beer a piece, late on a Sunday night (which was nice to see them open). The ambiance at night is kinda clubbish, nice bar, and a nice vodka selection. Definitely a place I could hang out at.“

“Good food to accompany decent and very drinkable beer (although certainly not extraordinary beer). The service was excellent and the selection pretty good (5 standards with 2 more specials). The staff (bar and waitress) was pretty knowledgeable. Atmosphere was a bit young and loud as we got to the 6PM hour. Worth a stop, but not the FIRST to hit in the area. Smokey environment, expensive pricing.“

“Very obnoxious security at the door insisting on ID from all, including people in their 50’s & 60’s! Yes, they have a great selecting of bottled beer. However, all the beer’s on the wall are EMPTY. Just for display only! What a farce. When I asked why they have a bottle on the wall and yet they don’t carry it, the chick bartender said, "Don’t get me started!"....(It was a Foster’s) She then pointed to a refrigerator full of obscur named bottles and said that was my choice. Then walked away & ignored me. Stay Away From This Place.“

“Finally made it here a month or two ago - after hearing their beloved former brewmaster Scott Morrison was fired - just as I was getting psyched about trying some of his inspired and unique brews. This place looks like your basic American food restaurant. Not as nicely decorated or brew-themed as Sly Fox, Iron Hill, Victory, Triumph, etc. but OK. Brews were pretty good, sampler decent enough, and the food was above average. This place could be a standout, but sinks into mediocrity. Nice to try, but with Victory and others near by, its tough to make this one my first pick. Oh - and bartenders at brewpubs who are lazy and don’t care really suck - Get some better bartenders!!! Wait staff was decent“

“A very American brewpub, only accesible by car, very modern decoration, and lots of sports on tv. The bar is very large, so lots of seating at the bar. Very loud music on a friday mid-afternood - anoys me. The brewpub seems very oriented towards art and tv. Good service. 8 beers on draft from boring to good. Too bad they’ve stopped the really good bottled stuff.“

“I called a lot of Philly bars, and this is the ONLY one that had not one, but two Russian Rivers. (Pliny Elder and Damnation) br The Hooters type bartenders were nice and helpful. At least as much as they could be. One had tried all the beers, anyway. I was there off-hours, and the only thing playing was a football game. Nice selection of beers. Also a few bottles worth checking out. Update: this place still allows smoking in the bar. I don’t know how they got a loophole to the state law, but it’s going to cost them a couple of points.“

“Selection-wise, this is by far the best beer bar that’s within a reasonable driving distance of my house. They have tons of beers on tap and 100+ in bottles. And a large portion are craft brews. Any place in this part of the country that has Pliny the Elder and Arrogant Bastard on tap is doing something right. Right when I was leaving, they put a $2 sign on the Hop Devil tap (Damn the bad luck). The ambiance is just OK. The bartenders are, uh, nice ;-). I visited on a Friday afternoon before it was crowded. I’d stick to visiting this place in the off hours, personally.“

“Middling beers but the food was decent and portions huge. Too loud. TVs above the bar, a band crammed into a too-small space, and too many parties of hip chicks and dudes talking too loudly. If you’re in the are head to Victory instead. “

“It was okay, I guess, but nothing I’d go out of the way for. Too bad I missed the bottled beers; the stuff they had was decent but that’s all. Food just like any other pub. Pretty much all of their beers are woefully average, seemingly catered to the BMC drinker who thinks they are adventurous.“

“Getting in and out of the parking lot can be kinda dangerous at times. Nice big bar. Clean facilities.Too many TVs. Good service, friendly wait staff. Food is pretty darn good also, fair prices. The standard beers are just that, standard. The bottled beers, which are not available now were for the most part outstanding! They gotta rethink this strategy, please! Reccomended.“

“This was a nice place that basically had it togeather, although a bit spendy. The hand soap in the washroom was 100% fragrance free. There were 4 interesting seasonals on tap in addition to the regular bores. They were in the 3.6 zone by me. Very good caesar salad but the grilled rare tuna was too heavily spiced. Would go back again. They no longer have bottles to go, just "growlers only", a disappointment for I wanted to take some bottled saisons home.“

“This was the place I was most looking forward to on my recent Philly trip. A new biere de garde and Baltic porter? Can’t beat that. I got ’em, too, but they were in 750s for take-out and I haven’t gotten to them yet. So, for the actual visit: ambiance, just ok. It’s a new, sterile, boring sort of suburban place (though it had a patio, a big plus). Food: terrific, possibly the best brewpub meal I’ve had, certainly top 5...a totally fresh, medium-rare hunk of tuna with great black rice and veggies, and nice artichoke dip. Service: fine, no complaints but nothing special. Beer sampled: overall, just ok. Will re-rate once I’ve had those bottles...“

“I had a nice experience here. The wait staff was very friendly and accommodating. The beers on tap were not all that exciting, but the bottle selection was nice. They even gave me a free bottle when they only had one of the three I ordered. The food was great. Sunday's prime rib special was tasty and more than sufficient.“
