BOTTLE SHOPS:
The best NYC bottle shops. All stores let you break sixpacks.
1. New Beer Distributors (Manhattan) - RateBeer's #5 Best U.S. Beer Store for 2006. The largest selection and lowest prices. Lower East Side - essentially 2nd Ave, three blocks south of 1st St.
2. American Beer Distributors (Brooklyn) - RateBeer's #40 Best U.S. Beer Store for 2006. Reachable via subway (F train) in 45 mins from Penn Station.
3. Happy Deli (Manhattan) - CLOSED. Formerly the second largest selection (tied with American Beer Distributors, above).
4. Bierkraft (Brooklyn) – Quite pricey.
AREA BREWPUBS (AND BREWERIES WITH TAPROOMS):
1. Southampton Publick House (Southampton, NY) - RateBeer's #9 Best U.S. Brewery for 2006. Just 2 hours east of NYC by train from Penn Station. No car needed.
2. Sixpoint Craft Ales (Brooklyn) - Offers tours and a tasting room.
3. Brooklyn Brewery (Brooklyn) - Offers tours Fri/Sat. Tasting room and patio.
4. Heartland Brewing (Manhattan) - Five Manhattan locations (51st/43rd/34th/14th Sts and Downtown)
5. Chelsea Brewing Company (Manhattan) - Hudson River @ 19th St.
6. Chumleys (Manhattan) - Unmarked former speakeasy. Essentially near 3rd St and 7th Ave (if they actually intersected). Beers brewed by, but not available at, Chelsea Brewing.

1. Spuyten Duyvil (Brooklyn) - RateBeer's #4 Best U.S. Beer Bar for 2006. Authentic Belgian bar in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. 20 mins from Manhattan's 14th St.
2. Blind Tiger Ale House (Manhattan) - CLOSED 12/27/05, but will reopen late 2006.
3. Barcade (Brooklyn) – RateBeer's #29 Best U.S. Beer Bar for 2006. Craft tap beer + 80s arcade games + former garage = FUN. 20 mins from Manhattan's 14th St.
4. The Ginger Man (Manhattan) – RateBeer's #32 Best U.S. Beer Bar for 2006. Classy bar on 36th St. (b/w 5th & Madison Aves) with 70 taps!
5. d.b.a. (Manhattan) - RateBeer's #34 Best U.S. Beer Bar for 2006. East Village (1st Ave @ 2nd St.) mainstay with a foreign emphasis.
6. Hop Devil Grill (Manhattan) - East Village bar (St. Marks/8th St. b/w 1st Ave and Avenue A) focusing on quality Belgian and US micros.
7. David Copperfield's (Manhattan) - Remote Upper East Side bar (York Ave. @ 74th St.) with impressive tap and bottle list.
8. House of Brews (Manhattan) 2 locations: 46th and 51st Sts.
9. Stout NYC (Manhattan) Upscale wood-paneled bar reminiscent of The Ginger Man serving up 15 different stouts.
10. Killmeyer's Old Bavaria Inn (Staten Island) – A 90-minute trip from Manhattan's ferry terminal transports you back in time to this charmingly authentic Bavarian brauhaus.
