22oz bottle pours a muddy, deep brown with oily legs and basically no head. Nose has a lot happening, heavy raisin, heavy chipotle, smoke, malt, burnt caramel, booze, some brandy. Flavor has caramel apple, burnt toast, HEAVY black pepper, mild smoke, chipotle, heavy bourbon. Heat hits the mid pallate, heavy heat but good.

2015 bottle thanks to Randy. Pours black with small beige head that diminishes to nothing. The aroma is strong pepper, roast, wood, char. Thick mouth, chewy, strong heat, peppers, roast, chocolate, boozy finish, very good.

Countbeer (6586) - Best of E-Town mit 2 Brauhausen, NETHERLANDS - DEC 31, 2015
Bottle: #22/405: Chouffe glass: Black beer. Small and lively quickly disappearing dark brown head. Aromas of bourbon, red fruit, berries, roast, bourbon, light vanilla, subliminal aroma! Flavours of roast, dark fruits, light tones of white pepper, wood, light sweet, chocolate, delicious! Aftertaste is bitter, bourbon, roasty, some fruit and Low carbo, light creamy mouthfeel, bit more than just mediun bodied.

Bottle thanks to TheAlum. Pours opaque black, minimal head or lacing. Aroma is chili pepper forward, plus cocoa, vinous notes, dark roast. Flavor is light plus sweet, light plus bitter, sharp chili notes, a bit of a bite to it. Medium body, sharp biting finish.

arminjewell (9756) - East Lansing, Michigan, USA - APR 23, 2015
Pour out of bottle, dark brownish black pour with tan head, aroma brought notes of dark fruit, toffee, dark chocolate, some vegetal pepper into some bourbon, oak, slight vanilla notes with a hint of coffee. Taste was a mix of milk sugar, dark chocolate, coffee into a bit of dark fruit, bourbon comes into some slight oak, finishing sweet, some hints of the pepper come through. Glad I didn’t get the infected version.

On tap @ FoBAB 2014. Pour is deep brown with a very small beige head. Aroma and flavor of oak chips, bourbon, green peppers, spice, chili peppers, chocolate, and roast. Finish is slightly spicy with a nice balance from the sweetness.

Tap: Slick black body with a sliver of brown at the top. NO head at all. Aroma is full green apple & borderline acetic cider notes. AWESOME. Maybe a light hint of chocolate malt & bourbon. But mostly apple shit. Flavor has a hint of pepper but it’s not spicy, per se. It’s like mild green pepper flavor. But then here comes the apple. Huge, tart, astringent green apple. Tannic. Back-end full of strong booze, tastes like solvent. Light finishing heat but the solvent & acetaldehyde pretty much steal the show. This beer is horrendous.

Pours a deep brown/black with no head. The aroma has sweet malts, smoked peppers, fruity pepper, berries, chocolate, bourbon and some heat. The flavor has very little peppery heat, fruity pepper, berries and dark fruits, caramel, chocolate, bourbon and a strange smoky character. Not much pepper burn.Putting this in a barrel for more than a year pretty much insures not much peppery heat.

Draft pour at FOBaB 2014 pours opaque black. Nose cherry, green chilies, sweet malt. Taste mild cherry from the barrel, and very mild green chili. Expected more flavor explosion and some heat, but overall seemed muted.
