UPDATED: FEB 29, 2024 On tap at The Kernel, pours a deeo dark brown / black with a small tan head. Aroma is surprisingly potent for a dark mild, with deep roastiness, some earthiness, and crusty bready malt. Flavour is smooth and rich, with crusty bready malt, roasted notes, earthiness, and minimal soil. Man, I’d be sold on this style if they were all like this — damn. Deep, dry, not lifeless in any way. The key really helps; casks just neuter the style. Very good.

UPDATED: JAN 13, 2024 Bottle at home in Hackney - picked up from the Kernel taproom. Pours clear brown with golden highlights, and a small, creamy off-white head. Medium sweet flavour with rich brown bread, well-toasted biscuits, a hint of toasted toffee, earth, chocolate malts. Light to medium bodied with massaging carbonation. Nicely balanced finish, subtle roast, more hearty bready malts, toasted sugars, low bitterness, British yeast, nips of berries. Super.

Garrold (10693) - Sheffield, South Yorkshire, ENGLAND - DEC 30, 2023
UPDATED: DEC 30, 2023 Bottle. Beer Central Sheffield. Clear deep copper red. Luxuriant Kernel swede. Dunno how they do such a consistent swede. Possibly to do with added soap to the brews? Or custard powder? Anyhoo. Rich nutty chocolate powder malts. Fruit and Nut chocolate. Pot of well brewed tea. Taste has a nutty vinous sweetness first off, with a lightly vinous spicy bitterness. Smooth with body. Nice bit of bitterness to finish. Tasty gear for sure.
