COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Pasteurised bottle.
A firm favourite with the customers who have fond memories of the days when this beer would be “mulled” using a red hot poker, to enhance it’s aroma. It is brewed using pale, crystal and black malts with a little high maltose syrup. The beer’s natural sweetness is balanced using Progress, Fuggle and Golding hops.
Tasting notes: A warming aroma with hints of chocolate, fruit and malt gives way to a complex full palate of chocolate, fruit and liquorice. The finish is long and the overall impression is of a superbly crafted, smooth and well-balanced beer, which many will testify is deceptively strong.

Bottle. Deep brown, almost black, in colour. Very malty (lots of chocolate, bitter coffee, liquorice, roast malts, toffee). Sour fruity (berries, raisins). Hoppy (grassy & earthy hops. Sweet malts balanced by fruity & hoppy sourness. Nice balance. Dry hoppy finish. Very tasty. Very nice beer! (2009-02)

BlackHaddock (15453) - The County Time Forgot, Shropshire, ENGLAND - MAY 2, 2012
Oct 2006 from BA: I enjoyed this bottle, poured into a Gordon’s Thistle glass (twice because of the bottle size). It looked great, dark, very dark brown, with a thick light brown foaming head. Sadly the head shrank away very swiftly. Burnt caramel and chocolate aroma, which carried on into the taste and mouthfeel. Tasted just like a good quality, strong brown ale, but without the sweetness often found in browns. At £1.09 for the 500ml bottle, it is well worth seeking out.

Koelschtrinker (28835) - Brewver-Town, GERMANY - MAY 21, 2011
Brotiger Antrunk, weich, mild. Danach unscheinbarer, nicht unbedingt harmonisch, langweilig malzig, später auch muffig. Erst im Abgang wieder frischer durch Getreidenoten, etwas röstig. Insgesamt trinkbar aber unspektakulär. 7/7/7/8/11/7

500ml bottle at 5.3%. Pours dark ruby brown with a medium head. Aroma is slightly sour cream and some dark fruity malt underneath. Some sour malt to start. Sour creamy finish.

Ungstrup (51301) - Citizen of the universe, DENMARK - JAN 16, 2011
Bottled. A deep red beer with a thin beige head. The aroma has notes of malt and caramel. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt, caramel, and bread, leading to a dry and bitter finish.
