Originally called "Ouden Tripel", this ancient West Flanders Brown beer has found a new élan as a regional specialty under its current name: "Bellegems bruin". The main ingredients of our Bellegems Bruin are malted barley, wheat, hops, water, and caramelized malts. These are used to brew a top-fermented beer. Blending this beer with lambic beer aged in oak for 18 months results in this specific West Flanders Brown beer. Its typical flavour is characterized by a well-balanced, hardly noticeable sourness. This first flavour impression is soon followed by a second pleasant discovery: a slight bitterness followed by a hint of sweetness.

UPDATED: JUL 24, 2023 Copenhagen 23/7 2023. 25 cl bottle from Spar, Langestraat, Oostende. Blue label with vintage drawing of two gentlemen with hats sipping beer. Ours clear dark brown with a red hue. Big off-white head. Bubbly. Settles as thin patch of foam covering most of the surface of the beer. No lacing. Aroma is medium intense with a sweet fruity odor soon overpowered by a tart and sour scent of unripe berries. Sweet oxidized apple and pear. Lemon and tart currants. Touch of vinegar. Light carbonation. Slightly thick, oily, soft, almost flat texture. Flavor is medium intense with a light sweetness followed by a medium strong tart sourness. Aftertaste is lightly sour with a notable sweet fruity undertone. Lingers for a bit. Finish is semi-dry. Quite sweet for an Oud Bruin. But a charming little bottle.

mkcmagico (1352) - Mezokövesd, HUNGARY - JUL 18, 2022
UPDATED: JUL 18, 2022 0,25 bottle.
