COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Occasionally our crew gets to live the fantasy that many of our fans romanticize about – sitting around, beer in hand, discussing what to brew next. In fact, this is how we came up with what will eventually become our next Annual Release. This year, inspired equally by the flavors of the beers we sampled as by the high alcohol contents of many of them, the crew here decided to pay homage to the Mayans. Using malted barley and flaked corn along with smoky chipotle, spicy habaneros, and cocoa nibs, this year’s beer is perhaps our most unique yet. So, whether the December 2012 end of the Mayan calendar means the end of the world or not, we wouldn’t chance waiting to try this beer.

UPDATED: APR 14, 2019 Cellared at Nikki's. Pours hazy dark mahogany with one finger, tan head. Aroma is cocoa, roast, spice and some molasses. Taste is dark chocolate and brown sugar, moving to roast, pepper and wood. Finish is pepper and roast. A very good beer - booze is highly disguised (of course, it's 7 years old, so that helps).

Lovely blue bottle shared at the 10th Annual Epic & Unusual Beer Tasting, 11/29/15. Clear dark brown-red with no head. Aroma of toffee, caramel, earth, peppers and smoke. The taste is strong peppers, smoke and caramel. Medium bodied, aged well.

750ml corked and waxed bottle in a tulip. Pours deep brown with a small, beige head. Aroma of sweet caramel and molasses and chocolate from the malts, some peppers, more chocolate, and some dough with faint hints of ethanol. Flavor the same with a nice blend and a nice heat on the finish. Smoother texture. I would have liked to have tried this fresh, but I believe it has aged pretty well.

Bottle... This beer rocks!… I was forced to open this before I wanted because it’s corked, but not caged, and the cork was slowly working its way out. Pours hazy and dark brown with a mid-sized, fluffy, off-white head. The aroma is complex, with dark fruits, a blend of dark tropical-blossoms honeys and dark chocolate with lightly smoky and earthy nuances. Full-bodied with an oily mouthfeel and modest carbonation. The flavor offers Sweet chocolate, tropical honeys and dates with quite the spicy, chili pepper flavor and accompanying heat. Finishes spicy-hot and hearty with lingering chili pepper warmth. Not overbearing in my book, but I love spicy, Mexican food... and not the Tex-Mex, gringo stuff. I’m talking about holes-in-the-wall out in the desert southwest - the 505/ABQ. World class beer generously gifted by my good friend, growler!

Pours a deep mahogonny reddish brown with a thick off white lacing. Notes of chocolate and chipotle. A decent blend of sweet and spicy.

750mL bottle. Dark brown pour with a thin tan head. Aroma of habaneros, bitter chocolate and smoke. Heat from the peppers dominates most of the brew, with a lasting spicy finish. Not bad for sampling but I had trouble finishing even one glass.

On tap at Battleship. Pours a dark brown, near opaque color. Aroma is of sweeter malts, chile, oak, and some smoke. Flavor is of sweeter malts and smoke up front with a little chile burn in the back end. Leaves a smokey malt and chile finish. Hopefully I won’t have heartburn tonight.

Bottle purchased at Vicker’s Liquors and shared with friends. Clear brown pour with a medium tan head. Aroma of chili pepper, caramel and roast. Malty and caramelly flavor with chocolate before a warming (no, hot) pepper finish.

Corked and waxed blue glass wine size bottle. Unique. Wax was difficult to remove. A - very smoky spicy aroma. The various peppers are prominent. APP - Darker than expected with a foamy khaki head. This beer just looks spicy! T - Peppers, malt, smoke (heavy) and Tabasco. Also some alcohol, but it is hard to notice over the intense spicy smokyness. P -Light carbonation wish there were more. Relatively thick. Overall ok,but very spicy and slow drinking. Going to try with BBQ Chicken.

Smells spicy, malty, and smoky. Pours dark with very small head. Tastes malty, definetly spicy. Doesn’t have a huge alcohol taste, but is warming and spicy.Excellent beer.
