UPDATED: DEC 25, 2019 Bottle from Tesco’s, Watford and drunk on 01/12/2005. Made the error of not chilling this more, although as an English ale, you wouldn’t have thought it would need it. Just way OTT on the Christmas spice. Pretty unpleasant.

Love this beer though not had it for several years - alas! So wish I could get it once more.

Så er det jul! En tyk sød smag med undertoner af kokus. En juleøl man skal have en af og så ikke mere, den er let humlet i eftersmagen, om den er god til mad er ikke nemt at sige..... Da man ikke får meget med kokus til jul.

500 ml bottle sampled in 2008. Clear reddish amber body with a small, dense, beige head. Aroma has malt, dry fruit and fig. Flavor is sweet malt, dry fruit, nuts and very little bitterness. Medium body and aftertaste. Nice idea with a rather boring result.

A - Pours a nice dark reddish brown with a thick creamy head that turns to a thin layer by the second sip. S - Raisins, dates, Bit of Rum, cinnamon, nutmeg, and those Toffee glazed mixed nuts that you can’t stop eating and try to rationalize that it is okay to finish them because it is small tin and there are only a couple handfuls left until you find yourself pouring the crumbs that remain into your mouth and then you remember that this is a beer review and you should stop writing about putting nuts in your mouth. T - Much Hoppier than I would have guessed. Still a bit of the Rum Raisin spicy flavor, but heavier on the Nutmeg, roasted nuts, baked bread, Hops and a bit of metal. The aftertaste gives a slight alcohol warmth and a nuttiness that comes from the brown outer coating to the nut that I eat but know some discard. M & D - Smooth, well carbonated, I could drink another but won’t go out of my way. It is making me burp quite a bit and am not sure if this is due to carbonation or it being my first of the day or maybe I’m just gassy to begin with.

Best before 30th Sep 2009, it was reviewed and drank on 2nd Oct 2009: two days late. Poured into a vase shaped pint glass (Old Speckled Hen badged). Slightly chilled, as asked for on the label. A good foaming off-cream coloured head sat on top of a dark amber, light brown body. The beer was clear, no hint of a cloudiness or haze. The head sadly fell away to a thin covering very quickly. The smell was low key for a Christmas Pudding, even when it warmed the beer gave off very little, some plums and raisins just about came into play. Pleasant more than exciting taste, again not much Christmas Pudding to be found, the 5.5% alcohol doesn’t come through with any great authority either. A weak spicey feel as the beer warmed, cloves and cinnamon perhaps? Not what I was expecting, but overal, not bad at all.
