COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A Mikkeller interpretation of the classic Trappist ale, Orval. Brett funk in a light fruity pale, that will taste great fresh, but age beautifully for years!

beerplace (8849) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - MAY 12, 2023
UPDATED: MAY 12, 2023 The orginal 'Årh Hvad'. 330ml shared with Ryan and Kulminator's regulars (Ernest, Pedro, Fox). Appearance: hazy copper with a tan head. Aroma: cardboard and funk. Taste: very bitter, harsh, too much Brett. Overall: passed its prime.

UPDATED: MAY 12, 2023 Poured from 330mL bottle (as Årh Hvad). Clear amber gold with white head. Aroma has tons of horse blanket, touch of cardboard. Same flavour with feint astringency and hopping.

UPDATED: FEB 6, 2023 Bottled (had as Mikkeller Årh Hvad?!). Hazy deep orange colour with a mediumsized white foamy head. Aroma is funk, farmyard, fruits and some slight spicy and herbal tones. Flavour is grassy, citrusy, some farmyard and mild earthy tones. Somewhat dry palate. A bit yeasty in the finish to. Good take on Orval, but feels like a light version of it.

UPDATED: JUL 1, 2021 Monday, June 28, 2021. Bottle, 33cL. 6.8%. Purchase ('La Gargante', Parthenay (79), FR). Home. A shining amber clear beer with a big white foamy head ; medium retention ; good lacing. Brett, wood-oak, citrus, herb ; Orval spirit for sure :)Medium dry refreshing bitter, spicy note. Medium good rising body, average thin texture, average gaseous, dry bitter woody dry refreshing finish. Overall, very good ! I didn't read the description before tasting and I am happy that the picture that came to my mind was an Orval ; but maybe cleaner with less trees.

UPDATED: MAR 21, 2021 Pours hazy orange with a small head. It smells funky and citrusy. The flavor is tart and citrusy. There are mild hops and I think caramel. Lively carbonation. Quite good but was hoping for great here.

rand (3470) - SWITZERLAND - JAN 17, 2021
UPDATED: JAN 17, 2021 Veiled amber with active crackling, off-white head, medium duration. Malted aromas, ripe fruits, mango, cherry, Brett, herbs. Taste is on Brett but dry and earthy. Sour and tart with notes of caramel, spices, leather, tropical fruits, lemon-zest, Brett. Wanted Orval fashion, but here the Brettanomyces transform the beer into Brett-anomym.

UPDATED: JAN 3, 2021 Bottle. Bought, I believe, är a Systembolaget. Many years ago. This bottle has been in my keeping since 2016 I believe. One of the bottles I keep in englsnd for aging. I didn't intend to age it deliberately but its BBD was not for years so I left it. And boy am I glad I did!! Aroma is fantastic Belgian funk. It mellowed over time but still that brett is very much there. Lovely deep golden colour. Having read that this was a try on Orval I'm almost scared how well they have managed to recreate that special and funky taste of Orval. Incredibly clever. Easy going with a funky spice at the end. Superb beer and I'm sure it doesn't taste near the same young.

danielyabu (2634) - União da Vitória, BRAZIL - AUG 10, 2020
UPDATED: AUG 10, 2020 Huge frothy offwhite head. Excellent lacing. Mostly diminishing. Translucent dark-amber body. Aroma: light malt, lime, light yeast, cheese, grape, alcohol, vinegar. Initial flavor: very light sweet acidic moderate bitter. Final flavor: moderate acidic bitter; long duration. Baixa drinkability. Paladar amadeirado/alcoólico lembra cachaça. Exótica. 30 s
