From old tasting notes. Orange amber color. Small bubble carbonation. Beige head is ample. Toasted malt nose is fruity and sweet. Flavor is hoppy with a semisweet toasted maltiness. Medium bodied with good balance.

12oz bottle in a shaker. Pours deep rubyish/amber with a lacy, off-white head. Aroma strong of bread and cereal malts with a little toastiness and some light hops. Not that hoppy on the finish. Average texture. Decent, but not great.

Malty apple aroma. Clear dark orange color with a small white head. Sweet beginning with a light amount of bitterness. Bitterness fades in the finish leaving a light palate and mild sweetness.

Bottle: Finally scrounged one of these Utica-made NA beers. I’m revisiting this after tasting the original in the distant misty past. One of the first US micro beers I tasted. Pours a clear orange-amber ale in the glass. ! finger rocky cap, goes to a ring but laces the glass. Caramel maltiness, some fruits and dried grass in the nose Moderate body, thinnish mouth feel. Caramel malts in front are balanced with piney hop and fruity esters, finish dries out with a decent hop bite. My memory is foggy but this seems a tad thin compared to the AN amber of yore, nothing outstanding but it’s a decent enough amber ale for sessions.

Brewed in Saratoga Springs, but by who? New Amsterdam was one of the pioneers of the craft beer movement in New York in the 1980s. It disappeared for a while, and I suppose the brand has been picked up or restarted by someone else. Nice label. Brown pour. A bit of citrus tang and honey in the aroma. Pretty dry, medium-bodied ale, with a touch of esters and some honey in the aftertaste. It is still a good brew.

12 oz bottle. I remember drinking this back when I first got into craft beer, or microbrews as they were called, back in the early 90’s. After cracking this one open and drinking it I must admit it’s pretty much the way I remebered it.....decent looking amber body with a smaller slightly bubbly off white head, sweet aroma with notes of caramel and toffee and a similar taste with a medium mouthfeel but lots of carbonation. Nothing special by any means other then the nostalgia for me but boy does this one take me back.

12 oz bottle, pours an opaque dark brown color with little head. Aroma at first is sharply hoppy and dry but later becomes sweeter and maltier. Flavor is bitter with a bit of sweetness, kind of roasty. Palate is average, kind of rough, but somewhat full body. Not a bad beer, but nothing special.

Bottled. This says it was brewed in Saratoga Springs, not Utica, which makes me wonder if Olde Saratoga/Mendocino is doing the brewing/owns this now. Pours with pretty much no head, darkish brown-gold-amber. Aroma is syrupy, malty, sweet, bitter. Not much to the flavor, just a vegetal malty bitterness with a spoiled milk finish. Blech. Not really worth drinking at all.

From a 12 fl. oz. bottle no. 4123114080148. The pour is definitely amber with just about no head and light lacing. The aroma is fresh malts and slightly hopped. The mouthfeel is adequate. The flavor is about a 50-50 balance of malts and fresh hops. Slight aftertaste. It was not as good as I remembed it when I first had it in the late ’80’s but it was still OK.

this brew was okay. I tried it at a beerfest because I’d never seen it before. It was very ....forgettable. Nothing really stood out. It wasn’t good and it wasn’t that bad. If your looking for run-of-the-mill beer. This is it.
