COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Boulevard’s Love Child Series of "wild" ales are barrel-aged with such boisterous cultures as Lactobaccillus and Brettanomyces. These wayward offspring can prove so complex that we employ gauges on the label to convey the intensity of three key personality traits, Funk, Sour, and Fruit, presenting a picture of the ale at the time it was released. It will change as it ages, but don’t we all?

Oak barrels were used to age the majority of beer used for Love Child No. 3—with beer aged from 16 months to nearly six years. Another portion of the beer spent 11 months in stainless tanks, souring on Lactobacillus. While very tart, the sourness is short-lived and the beer finishes dry with a trace of oak.

UPDATED: APR 8, 2021 This is a backlog rating from 2014 from a bottle shared with my wife, from notes. When I had this beer it was average to below average for the style and not something I wanted to have again or I just didn't get back to my notes because of my technology at the time, work and/or family. Words to describe this beer are tart fruits, earthy, oak, vinous, lactic acidity, good.

Ageing did no harm, and may have picked up the tartness and wine barrel flavour. Very good drinkability and not too sour.

(Bottle) Reddish amber colour with frothy, beige head. Malty, sourish nose with balsamic vinegar, caramel, red fruit, raspberries, sour cherries, funky yeast and oak wood. Fruity, malty, tart taste with red fruit, red-currant, sour cherries, raspberries, some red wine, caramel, vinegar, rhubarb, oak wood and a dry and tart finish with slightly harsh tannins. Almost full body, mainly dry. Really tart, but very tasty with lots of funk, wood and balsamic vinegar. Excellent.
