COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Prytania is a dramatic street. It follows much the same path as its more famous sibling, St. Charles Avenue, just a block over. Its mansions are equally grand, its restaurants and shops equally beloved. Towards one end, there’s the Prytania Theatre, the 100-year-old, single-screen cinema where Walker Percy’s moviegoer watched movies, as did Ignatius J. Reilly along with countless less fictional people. It’s a dramatic street. Which is why we borrowed its name for our most dramatic beer. Brewed in the traditional British style, our Prytania Imperial Porter is big, bold and rich, reminiscent of high-quality bittersweet chocolate both in color (very dark but not black) and in sweetness (not overly sweet but not unsweet). Perfect to sip outside on a brisk winter day. Perhaps a stroll down Prytania Street. But watch out for the Imperial-caliber ABV lest your stroll turn into a stumble and things get a little too dramatic.

nearbeer (8330) - Knoxville, Tennessee, USA - FEB 25, 2019
UPDATED: FEB 25, 2019 Half growler. Coal black brew with a half inch of creamy foam topping. Nose is cocoa nibs and dark toasted bread. Flavors of cocoa, doughy bread and blackberry with a touch of cream. Medium body has smooth medium carbonation and a decent balance. The cocoa flavor seems a bit overdone, but otherwise pretty tasty.

UPDATED: JAN 30, 2019 Dark pour, finger of tan head. Nose is coco and Graham cracker. Middle is light coffee, dark kilned malt, molasses, touch of wood. Finish is woody, smoky, and malty. Surprisingly light on its toes for the ABV, but we will see mid glass.

UPDATED: JUL 19, 2018 Sweet chocolate notes, nice hoppyness, followed by a very off hairspray like taste. This was a 6 pack of cans. I wouldn't recommend or buy again.

Good, with a hefty amount of chocolate notes backed up by modest hints of dark fruits and British yeast. Apple and slight roasted mocha notes perk up on the back end, but also an odd wet bread funk reminiscent of, well, finger paint. Not overpowering, but enough to make me realize the more the pint warms, the less enamored I get. Stays appreciably dry, though, and the creamy texture hides most of the ABV.
