Allagash Century Ale is a Brett Saison brewed with Pilsner, Raw Wheat and Biscuit Malt. This beer is fermented for 2 years in stainless steel with a blend of a traditional Saison yeast and Brettanomyces. Before packaging it is dry hopped wiht a blend of German and American experimental hops. Golden in color, Century Ale has aromas of toasted crackers, passion fruit and citrus. Complex flavors of biscuit and fruit are followed by a dry, slightly tart finish. This beer should be consumed fresh.

UPDATED: DEC 10, 2019 Bottle from Dry Creek Liquors in San Jose, CA dated Jan 2016. Aroma beautiful fruit, passion fruit, maybe guava, Brett funk, some hay. Taste is passion fruit and guava, dry tartness...hops have been obliterated long ago but this was still outstanding! Great fruit and funk, could’ve had 3 of these.

375ml bottle batch 1 pours hazy orange with medium large fluffy head. Nose and taste are classic bretty belgian, crackery malt, grain, bread on the backdrop with zesty citrus spice, yeast, pepper and light stonefruit up front. Nice body, carb and hints of tartness. The funk level is mild, dialed, and well integrated. Finishes dry. Classic Allagash!

FlacoAlto (4461) - Tucson, Arizona, USA - MAY 26, 2018
Sampled June 2016 A steady pour produces an initially three finger thick, but then growing two-finger above the rim, and then I have to eat some before it collapses, light tan colored head. The beer is a pale amber color that shows a straw / light-golden hue when held up to the light. The aroma smells of floral, tropical fruit and earthy, spicy, Brettanomyces character. Mangoes, kumquat zest, cracker like malt, orange blossoms, guava, and some musty, funky, earthy base notes are all noticeable here. There is a tartness to the nose that for some reason reminds me of a metallic, tropical leaning, tart white wine of some sort. The foam is quite bitter when eaten. The beer is refreshing and light, but has a soft palate texture to it that is offset nicely by the effervescent, prickly carbonation. The flavor has a soft tartness to it that seems to be brought out by the tropical and citrus hop notes, as well as by the fermentation character. The flavor is quite dry, and this mutes the tropical side of the hop fruit character just a touch; still hop fruit notes still explode on the palate as you drink each sip. Guava, kumquat, floral tropical notes, passion fruit, and a bit of spicy mango character is all noticeable from the hops. The finish has a light bitterness, though not nearly as biting as when you eat the foam directly. Musty, earthy, slightly spicy, phenolic Brettanomyces contributions add some additional complexity, and much needed funkiness to the flavor. The Brett character, while not strong, adds a boost to the complexity here that pushes this to the next level. The tartness and tropical fruit character are the largest contributors here, and they play really well together.

Bottle, cool and old find from JBPortland before Allagash started to show up here in distro!. Pours opaque golden, small white head, dissipates fairly quickly, good lacing. Aroma is Brett, oak, musty backyards. Flavor is dry, light lemon, must. Light body. I totally fucked the pony on the "this beer should be consumed fresh" bit there, but its still pretty solid.

Bottle at Todd's. Pours a somewhat clear orange hue with a medium white head. A big husky lemon nose. Grains, sweet citrus, bigger sour notes, funky, some lemon. Very smooth.

Really well done, a bit tart and brett wild. Very drinkable, some lace. Getting biscuit, tart, well malted, only a residual of sweetness. Crazy.

375 ml bottle via local trade. Bottled February 5, 2015. I did not read the description when I got this so I'm 2.5 years behind the point where they wanted me to consume it. Whoops. It pours a cloudy gold with a small white head that settles into a ring and just a wee bit of film. Big Brett funk on the aroma, with loads of stone fruit and grapes and pineapple and citrus, bready and sweet malts, and wheat. The flavor is more of the same but slightly more muddled. Medium-bodied, with modest carbonation and a fruity, wheaty, funky mouthfeel. Really nice. Does well with a bit of age, despite the warning I inadvertently ignored.

UPDATED: SEP 2, 2017 Bottle (date unknown). Appearance: slightly hazy golden beer, nice white head with subtle carbonation. Smell: complex but smooth funky brett, apricots aroma. Taste: complex but highly balanced notes of lemon, peach and dried apricots with smooth but great funkiness from bretts and subtle saison esters, moderately tart and rather dry despite medium body, awesome texture and feel. Overall: impressively balanced beer beautifully combining saison and brett yeasts.

White head, falls flat rather quickly, lace, no. Hazy gold color. Nose of faint cider, stone fruits, mild. Body is light, tame carbo. Dry pale malts, touch grainy, hint of leather and blanky, just not forthcoming. Mild all around, dry finish, hint tart. Lookin at the price tag on this cute little bottle you’d expect more, a lot more, oh well.
