COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Blue Heron is a Kristall Weizen beer— this is a filtered European style wheat ale characterized by very pronounced fruity and spicy flavors and aromas. Our recipe uses a traditional mix of wheat and barley processed in the German fashion. However, the distinctive flavors and aromas are a result of the yeast.

Tap at The Bulldog in Jackon, MS. Puny head into clear copper body. aromas of light bubble gum yeast and a touch of hops with some spices. flavor is initiallay bittersweet but finishes bitter. moderate finish duration. flat carbonation. Not bad brew for MS.

Lazy Mag brepub in the Gulfport/Biloxi airport while waiting to head back to the great sands of Iraq. Clear color with small head. Had the same sweet smell and taste the Lazy Mag is famous for. Taste was of wheat and spices. I guess the glass was to cold to notice any lacing. I wish LM would bottle more than just the Southern Pecan, but this wasn’t bad.

From a Party Pig brought to me by a friend’s mom who is from Mississippi. Poured a clear golden color with a light white head. No lacing. Aroma of clove. Nice mouthfeel. Flavor was different for me. It had both citrus and banana flavor to it, which I wasn’t expecting (I didn’t know the style before I drank it and don’t think I had a krystal weizen before). This was okay, I guess. I would drink this if offered, but nothing I would go to Mississippi to try.

Let me preface this by saying I"m not a fan of the German-style wheat beers but this was the most palatable of the few I’ve had. Poured from the tap. Nice light color, aroma was fruity. Definetly had the twangy banana/citrus flavor going on. Not bad - but definetly my least favorite beer from Lazy Magnolia - but the best wheat I’ve had so far...

Draught at Mellow Mushroom - Ocean Springs, MS. Pours clear amber with a spare fizzy white head, mostly diminishing. Aroma is average malt (hay, straw, meal), light hops (grass), average yeast (dough) with notes of banana. Light bodied, sticky texture, lively carbonation and a chalky texture. Average duration, light sweetness, acidity and bitterness.

UPDATED: JUL 26, 2009 On tap at Soulshine Pizza Ridgeland MS. Sweet, almost bisquit malt undertones aroma with just a hint of sourness on the nose. Nice slightly amber color, poor head. Flavor was very good. Probably sweeter than most wheat beers. I get light wheat flavor, nice light malty profile (more so than any other wheat beer I’ve had), and mild fruityness. Palate is solid, nice mouthfeel, clean finishing. Overall a very drinkable beer. To bad this is discontinued, it was LM’s best effort!

UPDATED: FEB 18, 2007 Sampled from a Party Pig (plastic mini-keg). Nice big aroma - wheat malt, ripe bananas, apples and cloves. Clear light amber color with nice big lacy white head - beautiful. Slightly sweet banana, clove and wheat malt flavor. Very nice full body unlike most Kristallweizens. Excellent example of the style - better than most you’ll find anywhere.

UPDATED: JAN 17, 2007 On tap at Skeeter’s, Gulfport, MS. This is a fine example of a Kristal Weizen. Poured an attractive gold with creamy white head that it didnt retain. Lacing was minimal. Good mouthfeel. Tasted a bit like a witbier to me. Carbonation was perfect and it disguised its alcohol content well (5.7 abv). Flavor has notes of honey and citrus. Good beer.

Draft. Pale gold in color with a white fluffy head that doesn’t last. Mouth feel is good; kind of dry. I really liked this beer. Flavor wise, this compares favorably with the good European weiss beers. The Lazy Magnolia people have definitely impressed me with this one.
