COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Berliner Messe is spontaneously fermented pale wheat beer inspired by the Berliner Weisse of Germany, the meertsbier of Belgium, the choral works of Arvo Part, and early aeronautics. Turbid mashed, coolship cooled, brewed with aged hops and a high proportion of raw wheat, then spontaneously fermented and aged for months in oak barrels.

"Let the clean tartness circulate through you instead of thoughts." -Rainer Maria Rilke

UPDATED: DEC 17, 2022 Keg at Bishops Arms, Gustav Adolf Malmo, 18/11/22. Lightly hazed golden yellow with little in the way of a head. Nose is pissy green berries, funk, wood must, dirty earthy notes. Taste comprises lemon rind, herb, funk, hedgerow, green berry must, vinous, damp cloth. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, drying close with a good puckering kiss. Solid work for just 3.5% ABV.

UPDATED: APR 8, 2020 (750ml bottle sample @ La Souche Limoilou, Quebec City, Nov 12/19) Pours slightly hazy pale yellow with a small white head. Notes of musty funk, attic, lemon zest, light moderate lactic acid, white wine must, olid slightly cheesy hops and a bit of hay, light cereals, moderate drying wood, the soft tartness fading into a dry mineral woody finish with a little persistent funk. Light body with low to moderate bottle conditioned carbonation. Feels like a meerts type thing for sure, very interesting for a 3.5% brew as it's very drinkable but fairly complex.

hopdog (24932) - Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA - JUL 22, 2019
UPDATED: JUL 22, 2019 750ml bottle. Poured a hazy yellow color with a thin sized head. Citrus, funky, wheat, wood and damn good for low alcohol beer.

UPDATED: DEC 27, 2018 750 ml bottle shared by Jared - thanks again, Jared! 2017 vintage. Pours a barely cloudy white wine color with minimal head. Very light looking, which wasn't entirely surprising. Almost lambic-like, with its musty funk, lemon, grape skins, oak, and minerals, with some faint wheat and straw. Light-bodied, with a dry, tart mouthfeel. Really interesting. I've never heard of this brewery but I'll have to explore more. I also didn't realize there were so many versions of Berliner Messe, but this one had nothing on the label indicating that it was some variant.
