COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This year is the 10th anniversary of Anchorage Brewing Company. Some of you may know this, but Gabe and I are great friends and he graciously asked if I would blend him up something for his anniversary - of course I said yes. Karen and I met Gabe in Anchorage back in 2012 when we were visiting some of her friends. Gabe was still brewing all of his beer at a different brewery nights and weekends, and then aging in his own space in the basement of that same building. His first setup - brewing at another brewery then aging in his place - was so familiar to how Karen and I started Side Project. We immediately hit it off and have always stayed in touch and as of more recently, had the opportunity to start working more together. Fun fact, Gabe is the first person to invite Side Project to a festival - his Culmination was the first place outside of St. Louis to taste a Side Project beer. For his anniversary beer I took inspiration from one of my favorite beers I have had over the past several years, Anchorage Endless Ending. It was lagering in a foedre when I was in Anchorage brewing our collaboration last fall. By pulling in the malty sweetness and slightly leaner body of a BA Barleywine and richening it up with the decadence and viscosity of a BA Stout, something special was created. For our blend and what we are calling For Gabe, I blended up this one-off BA Barleywine / BA Stout that consists of: -Double Barrel MJK (English Barleywine for our second son and inspired by Triple Oak Deal with a Devil) aged twice in Willett Bourbon Barrels for a total of 22 months -Anabasis (American 100 IBU Barleywine but fermented with English Yeast - Blend 4 barrel) aged in Eagle Rare Barrel for 24 months -OWK (OWK is a specific recipe now, but this contains no vanilla) aged in Willett Bourbon Barrels for 24 months -Ellipses (One of our Derivation/BBT recipes) aged in EH Taylor Barrels for 28 months -Ellipses (One of our Derivation/BBT recipes) aged in Willett Bourbon Barrels for 28 months

UPDATED: OCT 1, 2023 Draught at the Brewery, 9/30/23. Dark, inky, viscous, no head. Rich, rich bourbon, soft vanilla, tons of elegant spice and liquor. Chocolate, raisin, toffee, hints of roast. Clean, not boozey. Very nicely aged, polished notes with no excess sugar. Huge mellow bourbon. Chocolatey, rich, succulent with toffee-vanilla-chocolate and spicy bourbon. Thick, viscous but not overly sweet. No heat. So cohesive and polished. Elegant as hell with complex malt character and hybrid barleywines vibes.

phaleslu (16584) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - OCT 15, 2021
UPDATED: OCT 15, 2021 750 ml bottle from the brewery, picked up by Keir - thanks again! Pours a deep, dark, nearly opaque brown with a small tan head that settles into a ring. Notes of caramel, chocolate, oak, bourbon, vanilla, raisins, toffee, brown sugar, leather, wine, and dates. Full-bodied, with low to moderate carbonation and a sweet, coating, warming mouthfeel that finishes sticky. A beer worthy of its inspiration. Right on par with those awesome Anchorage 375 ml bottles.
