Red Duck Shadow of the Storm
Can. Another one from Cellarbrations Daylesford - happy to see a Red Duck, they have pretty much disappeared in town. Very dark brown with a fat coat of tan head that's soon at the rim. Aroma of bread and spice with roast and mocha behind. Rich but dryish with some stewed fruit as well as roast and mocha before moderate bitterness. Pretty good.

23 December 2022. I really enjoyed this beer, especially the big hit of malt that comes with every mouthful. Not only does this beer taste great it looks great as well with a shiny copper colour.

Aromas of peach, honey, bread, marshmallow, lemon, orange peel and marzipan. The marzipan, orange peel and tart citrus dominate in the mouth. I really enjoy this. Full bodied, and quite different.

Red Duck Licky
Picked this one up at the brewery on a lark and expected to hate it. It turned out to be a ripper. Sarsparilla is more prominent in the aroma than the aniseed. There's also biscuit, bread, lemon. I get much more of the licorice in the mouth, but it's nicely balanced with some caramel, bread and cocoa. I really enjoyed this one, and would definitely go back.

Aromas of guava, marshmallow, cream and lemon. A nice body typical of an IPL with lots of grapefruit and pine needle hops. A really enjoyable IPL.

Aromas of butterscotch grain and mandarin make for a great start. Strong hop notes give it a sting finish in the mouth.

Red Duck Maple & the Ox
Bottle. Black with a dense tan head. Aroma of whisky, sappy maple, mocha. Silky texture with lowish carbonation. The whisky almost outmatches the stout but not quite - there's firm roast and chocolate, then bitterness mingles with the oddly drying aspect of maple to create a nice finish. Deft.

Nondescript bouquet. Sweet malt upfront, immediate clagginess on the palate. Some complex flavours of caramel, charcoal and honey. Some choc vanilla and is tgat...maybe...a hint of hazelnut in the finish?

Red Duck Artisan Series Cherry Tart
330 ml bottle from Carwyn Cellars 4.2% ABV Reddish body, slightly orangey, slightly hazy, pretty much no head. Interesting aroma, doesn't quite scream cherries straight up, sort of savoury, get some sort of horsey funk, cherry towards the back, slightly glace like, slightly medicinal/cough syrup like. Light-ish body, slightly tart, slightly tannic and drying, low carbonation. Cherry more prominent in the palate, kinda fleshy, pitty, almost woody/savoury, slightly tart and dry on the finish. Not a bad drink... Not more savoury than fruity, sweet or sour.

Red Duck Passionfruit Kettle Sour
Can. Clear yellowish orange with a white head that fizzes away in a flash. 3- Smells of fresh passionfruit pulp and... nah, that's it. Light bodied getting on for watery. Fizzy. There is a dry crackery beer under the fruit and it has just enough sourness to make it a refreshing combination.

Red Duck Passionfruit Kettle Sour
Wow. Hazy pale pour. Hint of passionfruit on the nose, then masses of it on the flavour. Lemony sourness cuts through, then passionfruit comes back at the end. Almost soft drink like. Really interesting. Worth a try.

Four years on, perhaps this has improved a lot. Crystal clear light golden, low carbonation. Nose is tart and lactic, a little apricot. Flavor is more of the same, very clean with a little apricot and some fruity tannins. Pretty lovely.

Red Duck Sacher Torte
GABS Auckland 2018. Pours murky dark brown with a huge jelly textured head. Earth, soil, toast, bread, hint of apricot. Quite bitty. Something very wrong with the keg. Edit: Went back in the second session to try again. New pour did not have the bittiness that made the first try so unpleasant. Still quite earthy and not well put together but much improved so rating improved too.

Can - as expected for 4.2% it’s a bit watery with low impact from the hops - but a decent enough fruity hop hit and a good thirst quencher/first drink before seeking out something with more body/interest.

Red Duck Limited Release Golden Dragon
Pours ruby amber with a fluffy white head. Doesnt quite hit the heights for a scotch ale, probably in part through a lack of alcohol. Traditional flavours of caramel and malt are there but that missing alcohol leaves this a little one dimensional. Length in the finish is ok but leaves a sweet sugary film. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Red Duck Monkey Quadrupel
Bottle. Murky amber. Some chunks. Head fizzes away rapidly. Aroma of grapes (some sour ones too), spirits (whisky? grappa?), dried fruit, odd woody spices. And that's pretty much how it tastes: Sweet dried fruit, a sour edge, booze, oak, spices. There's certainly a warming kick at the end. Doesn't say what the barrels are - a mix of red wine and spirits, I'd guess. Looks pretty ordinary (I put this is a Duvel glass which produces a continuous fountain of chunks) but works rather well.

Red Duck Orange Mosaic
Can. Pale gold with a white head that's a wisp after a minute or two. Aroma of mandarins, orange peel, mango, crackers. Very light bodied. It is orangey but drier than expected with the bitterness seeming surprisingly strong. Not much evidence of malt. The tropical notes are a nice foil to the citrus. Initially added fruit seems to be providing much of the citrus but after a while the hops seem to take over. Refreshing on a hot night.

Red Duck Limited Release Valhalla Barley Wine
375mL Champagne bottle from Slowbeer 2017 vintage...? Pours a bronze body, opaque, very little head. Big rich aroma - lovely vinous/port-like characters - nutty rancio, sultana/raisin, figs, dates, plums, toffee, vanillin oak -wow! Low carbonation is welcomed - thick, slick, sticky, warming, almost tannic. BIG flavours - lots of really sweet toffee, sweet biscuits, plums prunes figs sultanas - all the dried fruits - port-like for sure - nutty rancio, lingering, lots of warmth - like a comfortable blanket of booze. Friggin nice, just doesn't let go, bit untamed but that's endearing & just packed full of flavour.
