Martinsh	3 Broughs Entire Traditional Ale Cask at Bru, Stoke-on-Trent (not listed in RateBeer). Pours a bitter brown with a small white head. Sweet malts in the aroma. These carry though into the mouth as well where the texture is a bit thin and watery. Nuts evident foo in the flavour with traces of oranges and ginger. Finish is yet more malts. Not a bad beer, but not good as the one it is evidently trying to emulate (Holt, Plant & Deakin / Holts Entire – even the pump clip is a copy). Monday, September 20, 2021
BlackHaddock	3 Broughs Entire Traditional Ale 9th March 2018, cask pint in The Platform Ale House, Albrighton Shropshire. Nice amber, light brown body; off-white head of creamy foam. Decent enough blend, but a little 'thin' in body depth. I had been drinking in Wolverhampton all afternoon, so maybe my taste buds and senses were not at their best. Scored objectively (and kindly). BlackHaddock	3 Broughs Pilsner Half-pint on tap in The Platform Alehouse, Albrighton railway station, Shropshire. Looked and tasted like a regular Pilsner, golden, clear and bright: fast fading white crown and no real aromna. Slight malt lead, but with a decent hop semi-bitter finish. Refreshing and nice to see a local ’Keg’ for a change. Monday, June 19, 2017

Aroma of burnt aniseed and Allsorts sweetness. Roasted fennel and lactic dustings with meaty dark bread. Some banana and sappy pine. Actually quite hoppy. Tuesday, February 28, 2017

BlackHaddock	3.1 Broughs Light Pale Ale Cask half-pint in The Admiral Benbow, Shrewsbury on 17th Feb 2016. Golden pour with a full and lasting white head. The_Osprey	3.1 Broughs Light Pale Ale Cask at The Hogshead, Wolverhampton as ’Broughs Light Pale Ale’ 4.3%. I like the old-school pump clip. Dark yellow, still, clear with a small dense creamy white head. Aroma is airy, bready malt, fairly plain and light. Body is medium, smooth, soft carbonation. Taste is light citrus, apple core, biscuity malt and white bread. It’s OK. Basic. Saturday, January 23, 2016

downender	3.2 Broughs Blonde Cask-conditioned at the Seven Stars, Bristol 4/8/2015. The 2015 version is brewed at 4.6%. Golden with a decent, white, head. Easy drinking with a touch of citrus fruit, biscuity malts, some leafy hops and a dryish finish. Good. Sunday, August 23, 2015

BlackHaddock	3.2 Broughs All Nations 29th April 2015: cask pint in The All Nations, Madeley Shropshire. This light golden ale is brewed solely for this pub and it will soon be brewed round the back when Broughs move from there current location into the old Shires Brewery facility connected to this (The All Nations) old pub. Nice easy drinking blend with a true balance of flavours from whatever ingredients are used. It is supposed to be as close to the old ’Dabley’ that used to be brewed at The All Nations: I think it is close. Thursday, April 30, 2015

47574xeCD	3 Broughs Superior Cask at The Harrow Inn, Coven. Poured chestnut brown with off white to tan head, must have first pint of the day as initial hints were a tad vinegar but this soon went and aroma of roasted malt. Hints of toffee and burnt malt. I had this 2 years ago and it was much better, a little disappointed with this to be honest. Superior is now 5% not 5.8% changed in 2013. Sunday, January 4, 2015

BlackHaddock	2.6 Broughs Special Hand-pulled pint in The Pheasant, Wellington Shropshire on 2nd Aug 2014. Very, very pale golden body with a thin white head. Hops just about out muscle the light malt contents and the beer has a mild hoppiness too it. Not a lot going on in this refreshing but rather bland beer. BlackHaddock	3.2 Broughs Bitter Three hand-pulled pints at The Pheasant, Wellington Shropshire on 25th July 2014. After two pints of citrus flavoured light ales this was a joy. Same golden, light body but a whole lot less of the lemon duck toilet cleaner aroma and taste: this had a hop lead with a slight Malt undertone and it balanced out the bitterness nicely for me. BlackHaddock	3.3 Broughs Superior Gravity poured half-pint at The Birmingham CAMRA Beer Festival on 30 Oct 2013. Looked good; deep, dark brown with a beige, creamy topping. Malts rule the flavours and aromas here: slightly over roasted malty feel give a semi-sweet note to the fruity taste and smell. I’d have preferred a richer, creamier body, but it is a Dark Mild according to the Festival tasting notes, so we shouldn’t really expect too much depth of body. Very drinkable and a pleasant change from the golden brews I had on either side of it. Friday, November 1, 2013
BlackHaddock	2.8 Broughs Springfield Gravity poured half-pint at The Birmingham CAMRA Beer Festival on 30 Oct 2013. Light golden brew with a full, but thinning white crown. Slightly more maltiness in the aroma and taste than there were hop notes: mild caramel biscuit feel overall. Delicate rather than robust, the flavours don’t rush at you, they just trickle out slowly, which is a shame because I drank this fairly swiftly and maybe missed something. OK and easy to drink. This proved to be a little thin on the palate for a Porter but with quite a pronounced plummy alcohol note. There is a chalky note with a slightly grainy hint. SarkyNorthener	4.1 Broughs IPA Cask@Lychgatetavern, Wolverhampton. Hazy copper colour with a large creamy head and excellent lacing. Aroma is a little peat smoke, hops and citrus fruits. The taste is also of smoked peat, citrus hops, pepper and spices. Very complex. Excellent on palate creamy and medium bodied. One of the best beers I have had for months. Saturday, February 16, 2013

BlackHaddock	2.9 Broughs Pale Ale 15th June 2012 finds me in The Cock Hotel, Wellington again: Two hand pulled pints of this pale amber brew with its thin white head were poured for me. Pine hop taste and smell, yet not bitter or dry; there being a sweeter maltier base within the flavours. Medium bodied and pleasant, an easy drinking beer; hence the two pints.
