San Diego Hopnotic IPA
Keg at Downtown Johnny Brown’s, San Diego, CA on 21/03/2008. Mislabelled as ‘Hoppopotamous’, but fairly sure it was this beer. A bloody great IIPA, bursting with fresh, zesty citrus, resinous pine and spruce and a nice malt base.

San Diego DeCoster Belgo
January 6th, 2017 - San Diego Beer Company has slipped into the North Park network of breweries through the new building on Ohio, where three tiny brew operations have just been set up. To ring in the new neighbor I stopped by to try the DeCoster Belgo Pale, a hearty, golden brew with a nice amor darkness and a good looking body. The smell advertises a rich and malty brew, with aromas familiar to amber brews, like caramel and red apple skins. The flavor uses more of a burnt caramel edge to express itself, with a hint of green apple, and a Bit-o-Honey sweetness that is a little off-putting on the first sip. The lower carbonation and slightly thinner body don’t seem to help much, but with each sip the brew increasingly grows on me. Slow to warm to it, I come around by the end of the beer to appreciate what it has to offer, which is both direct and sweet.

On tap at the brewpub. The menu says 8.5%. It’s just a good straightforward double IPA. It’s more pine tree and high citrus and less malty and boozy.
