Old Forge Blacksmith's Gold
Cask conditioned at Oxford Beer Festival ’15. Gold with white head. This proved to be quite a light, fruity beer with a floral background. There is a sweetish apricot, fleshy note in the mostly malty flavours. Some cereal hints. A reasonable beer.

Old Forge National Trust Ale
Bottle from Millets Farm, Frilford, nr Abingdon, Oxon, Tuesday 18th September 2012 Strangely this beer isn’t actually named however there is a photo of a man of the cloth on it and a National Trust symbol. As for the beer it pours mid to dark amber with large off-white frothy head. Nutty with mid bitteress, malty and fruity, good tangy beer with chocolate ’cocoa’ in particular showing. Ok. Cask (handpump) at Egham Beer Festival on 18 August 2011. Dark ruby / tawny mild. Creamy, lasting tan head. Very lively condition. Dry and slightly fruity with a touch of smoke. Quite a lot of bitterness for a mild, so I like it but mild purists might find that a bit "off-style".

Bottle from the brewery. Deep copper in colour with a fluffy, off-white head and decent carbonation. Solid, almost savoury malt aroma with some plum fruit. Easy drinking, with cereal malts, a touch more fruit and a big, bitter finish. Great stuff, Old Forge matches its sister brewery Halfpenny for quality.

Old Forge Blacksmith's Gold
Cask, gravity at The Hop Pole, Aylesbury, Bucks, Autumn Beer Festival, 15.10.10 Pours golden in colour with wispy white head. At first I felt like this had a slight chemical taint, which if I’m being honest I’m inclined to believe may have been as a result of this being the first beer drawn from this cask and the plastic taps being used having been taken out of the sterilising solution and possibly not rinsed through totally. Fortunately this got better to reveal a brisk, feisty golden beer that was crisp and fresh, nice bitterness, but lacking the floralness on the nose that I was expecting. It’s a simple but decent first beer that I’ve had from this new brewery, the chemical taint comes back a little at the end, though I’m sure that this isn’t the beer as we’ve had taps from Vale before that have been passed on straight out of the sterilising solution, I may be wrong but that’s what my guess is.
