3.1 Golden Bear Hibernator Winter Ale A friend found this burried in a closet so I can’t be sure of it’s condition : Cloudy and brown with a large head. Aroma is malty and alcohol with some hoppyness. Flavour is malty and mild with a lightly bitter aftertaste. Would’ve liked to have tried it fresh (or better taken care of) Wednesday, March 2, 2005

3.1 Golden Gate Pale Ale I had it on tap and it went well with the sea food. Balanced and kind of sweet. Saturday, November 27, 2004

2.1 Golden Gate Pale Ale I have a history with this beer. I printed the t-shirts for this company before they eventually went out of business. The beer was nothing special, it blended with the mass of microbrewed ales... Tuesday, November 16, 2004

3.9 Golden Bear Bohemian Lager In the bottle at the 2004 Crescent Moon Vintage Beer Tasting. This was from the late 80’s and was still fantastic! It was like drinking a homebrew. Big malt flavor and good hop overtones. Sad that this did not make it. Thursday, July 29, 2004

3.2 Golden Gate Pale Ale Bottle Conditioned. Light hazy caramel color like a distant sunset into the ocean. Light film of head & lacing. The aroma is malty with caramel/diacetyl and faint hops. The flavor is nutty, briefly sweet with an almost Velveeta fudge finish. Odd. Not too bad though, easy to drink. Kind of expected this to be an old bottle as it was bought on closeout at a grocery outlet. Tuesday, July 6, 2004

2.8 Golden Gate Pale Ale Another retired beer. This was mild, without much of a flavor profile. Seems pretty much ho hum. Overall, whatever. Tuesday, May 11, 2004

2.1 Golden Gate Pale Ale Ok second beer from the now extict brewery..same brown 12 oz bottle. Nice enough appearance for a golden ale..slightly hazy golden beer with a nice sized pure white head. Very "cotton candy" like aroma..lot of sugars it appears this beer hasn't survived as well as the Amber under the harsh gorocery store lights. ..Not good medicinal sugar taste..think this is definatly a dead beer..some faint malt. too sweet on my tongue. Not very drinkable..but who knows it might have been a good beer at one time. Tuesday, November 11, 2003

3.9 Golden Gate Amber Ale Its sad this brewery is no more..saw this beer at the cheapo grocery outlet.$2.99 a sixer..thought I would give it a go. Very very attractive looking beer when poured from the brown 12 oz bottle deep red almost garnet colour when held to the light..nice creamy off white head. Desp[ute sitting for at least a month on the floor , unrefridergated of some forlorn grocery store the aroma was very nice mostly malts but no off smells. The tatse also is very nice..fruity and malty..with a semi-dry finish. Very nice feeling in the mouth. A most drinkable Amber..its sad this brewery is defunct..if this is anything to go by they made pretty good beer. Tuesday, November 11, 2003

2.7 Golden Gate Amber Ale There's actually a story to this beer when I drank it. Every single sip I took foamed up like a M.F'er. My cheeks almost blew out every time! We had to pour it into a glass over a period of 10 minutes to just to fit it all in due to the head on it. Once we got that stabalized and I was actually able to drink it, the damn thing wound up being surprisingly good. I don't know what the hell the deal was with the constant foaming but I was fairly disgruntled with the fact I almost had to work to drink this. Typical amber without the "turned-up volume". One and a half thumbs up and a foot-long in the bun.........Kobe-style. Thursday, August 7, 2003

3.4 Golden Gate Amber Ale Pours a deep reddish color. Nice head. I wasn't expecting much of this beer but it's actually pretty good. Some fruit in the taste perhaps?? Some malt in the aroma. Definitely worth a try! Wednesday, August 6, 2003

3.7 Golden Pacific Half Dome Amber Ale A nice dark golden color. A decent sized head. Very smooth. About the smoothest beer I've had in a while. Some hops but not too much. Wednesday, July 23, 2003

3.3 Golden Pacific Half Dome Pale Ale When I think of a Pale Ale, Sierra Nevada is what comes to mind. This is OK compared to that. Nice amber color with a little white head. The aroma had me expecting a lot, but the taste is a bit lacking but not too much. You can clearly taste the hops but it's not as strong as Sierra Nevada. Overall not bad but I'll stick with SN. 2.9 Golden Pacific Half Dome Pale Ale Bottle. A medium golden color with an off-white head. A malty pale ale with a little toasted and vanilla character, which gets old quickly. Sunday, March 23, 2003

2.8 Golden Gate Amber Ale Poured a dark reddish-brown color wit a very small head that is frothy around the edge of my glass. The aromas are of toffee and buttered popcorn. Very strange tastes...sweet but again, like buttered popcorn with a little bitter finish. An unusual beer. Monday, February 17, 2003

3.2 Golden Gate Amber Ale Excellent zippy aroma, with a lot of amber malt character. A fruit-powdery and woody, but tame flavor. Thin palate. Tuesday, September 17, 2002

4.7 Golden Pacific Black Bear Dry Stout Good ooking & tasting stout! Slight aftertaste but not unpleasant! A true stout...! Sunday, August 11, 2002

3.6 Golden Gate Amber Ale Wonderful full malty aroma with a touch of yeastiness...Color a deep amber with good healthy head...Flavor also features a fairly sweet malt base, but hops are in full support, at least initially. Unfortunately, the finish is relatively tame--the initial robustness fades into a smooth but bland farewell. Still, quite good...I'll certainly give it another hoist in the future. 2.7 Golden Gate Pale Ale I remember the toffee caramel flavor which was a real surprise in their pilsner, but even bigger surprise was that this tasted almost identical. A little too sweet overall. Tuesday, June 11, 2002

3.2 Golden Gate Amber Ale Firm hops, nice malty flavor. There is a strong buttery-diacetyl flavor that is pervasive but not particularly unpleasant, this tastes to me very much like a scottish ale. Sunday, April 28, 2002

3.7 Golden Bear Bohemian Lager My initial thoughts were another microbrewed shot at the classic Bohemian style but this is something completely different. A sweet butterscotch/toffee aroma and taste is a complete surprise while some hop cripness and dryness in the finish balances out pretty well. Decent lager and cheap too. Tuesday, April 23, 2002

3.1 Golden Gate Amber Ale A substantial beer, dark amber with slightly bready malt aroma with what I guess is an old books English hop factor. Fun. Friday, October 12, 2001

3.2 Golden Bear Bohemian Lager The lightest beer in the Golden Pacific line with a yeasty aromatic component. More character than typical might be ascribed to a distinct roasty component. Friday, October 12, 2001

3.5 Golden Gate Amber Ale Good hoppiness. A bit caramel. Full......................................... Tuesday, October 9, 2001

3.6 Golden Gate Pale Ale Heady, with an almost-clear/slightly hazy, golden color. Packed a real "wholesome" flavor; slightly yeasty with an interesting malty twinge. Finishes with a sweet-caramel-malt edge. Some fruity esters, couldn't quite put my finger on (I'd agree with "weeicemon" on the "canned peaches" flavor, now that I think of it). Sunday, August 19, 2001
weeicemon |
3.4 Golden Gate Pale Ale Intense hop bouquet like canned peaches. Translates into a smooth flavorful brew. I expected a lot of excessive bitterness but was pleasently suprised by its mild yet assertive taste. Saturday, March 10, 2001

3.9 Golden Gate Pale Ale Good beer, malty with a decent hop spicy crispness that leves a slightly dry bittersweet aftertaste. Monday, September 11, 2000
