2.8 Butcher's Mucho Aloha Extra Pale Ale Can bottled on 04092019 poured in a tulip Aroma: distinct malty scent reminded me of yeast and some floral notes. Also, I sense banana bread and a hint of a sourness Appearance: dark gold clear body with thin head, head retention is bad Flavor: not too much to say, not as perky as an APA. A bit disappointed. Low level of bitterness, and a sour, bitter after taste. Not pleasant. Mouthfeel: undercarbonated, and neither smooth nor fizzy. Overall: not a beer I would recommend. This beer kinda fails in almost every category. Amongst so many wonderful beers brewed in the US, you guys seriously cannot find a decent brewmaster to at least test this beer before you release it? 3.1 Finest Made 12 Rye India Pale Ale April 26th, 2015 - As I mentioned in a previous review, Butchers is long gone, but their beers left quite an impression. In that impressionable group I include the Rye Select IPA. It is solidly dark and cloudy, and gives off a fresh and springy aroma, rich with lavender and iris smells. The flavor is thusly a little strange, dank and botanical, and also some mushroom funk. I say funk because that earthy mushroom taste reminds me of fungi past its prime, giving off a vague bitterness. Somewhere in the background is the hops, piney and very sharp with cedar. 5 Butcher's Mucho Aloha Extra Pale Ale Its an easy drinker with elevated taste. Love the finish. The notes of banana really add a hint of Hawaiian tropics. Brings me straight back to the North Shore with a beach bonfire! Tuesday, April 3, 2018

3.2 Butcher's The Old Sow April 15th, 2015 - Butcher's is a new brewery in town (and at the time of actually writing this review, it has since faded from the scene) and I'm loving what they're putting out. The Old Sow's label makes me think this might be a deep, smokey and bacon flavored beer, but this is not the case at all. Instead it is a light colored blonde brew with a thick inch of sloshing foam, and a light floral scent Lychee is also in abundance on the nose, weaving through and through my nose. The flavor also expresses a huge surge of lychee, but the sensation is short, disappearing quickly in the aftertaste. The lychee quality is more dry than sweet, making this a simple, clean, tropical beer that's easy to ingest. Friday, March 16, 2018

3.4 Butcher's Oatmeal Stout February 23rd, 2015 - Apparently no longer of this world (as of the assembly of this review, based on notes taking a year and a half ago) Butcher made some great brews, and I first realized this when trying their Oatmeal Stout. The smell comes across as both light and creamy, with whiffs of chocolate, but more predominant are notes of frothy milk latte and cinnamon. Some light caramel or light toffee is detectable, but also subtle, even with some warmth in the beer. Chocolate is *very* robust in the flavor, pushed up and around by a roiling carbonation. The tempest of bubbles might be too strong, actually, since it obscures flavors I catch a little later when the beer flattens. There I find Mexican chocolate (with the added salinity) and cacao nibs in an engaging dynamic. Sunday, November 26, 2017

2.7 Butcher's Mucho Aloha Extra Pale Ale Pours amber, relatively clear and not very foamy. Aroma biscuity and with some caramel character. Tastes sweetish, bit of sugary fruits there as well, besides loads of more caramel. Quite quick finish, just slight burnt sugar floating around in the linger. Overall, simple non pretentious pale ale, drinkable - yes, interesting - no. Tuesday, May 16, 2017

3.9 Butcher's Prospect Ave Pilsner Type: 16-oz. draft Glass: Clear shaker pint glass From: Hooleys Pub in La Mesa (San Diego), Calif. Price: $5.25 ($1 off for Happy Hour) Purchased: May 1, 2016 Consumed: May 1, 2016 Misc.: N/A Was looking for something new to try and this one fit the bill at Hooleys. Kind of looking forward to trying just a pilsner and not some complex beer. Had never had a beer from this new brewery, so not sure what to expect. Kind of hard to see in the place, but poured a yellow, golden, clear color with one finger of frothy, white head when I got it. Serene setting underneath the head with just a few bubbles. Good amount of layered lacing. Average retention. (Sight - 4.00) Holy hops on the smell! Was not expecting a hoppy pilsner and initially thought I had the wrong beer, but let’s do this. Smelling smooth Mosaic, floral hops, tropical notes with hints of mango, passion fruit and pineapple and juicy tangerine. Not getting any pilsner notes. (Smell - 4.25) Taste followed the nose, but not as much IPA as the nose. Actually getting some pilsner notes. Mosaic, orange blossom, floral hops, bitter Citra, tropical pulp, mango peel, hints of pineapple, passion fruit and Southern Cross (I think). (Taste - 4.25) Light body. Oily-to-creamy texture. Average carbonation. Juicy, citrusy finish. (Feel - 4.00) This was awesome for the style. More IPA than pilsner, but still light and refreshing. Well done. (Overall - 4.50) 4.21 94 A- Wednesday, May 4, 2016
