Codice a Barre Rossa
500 ml corked & caged clear bottle, from Vinmonopolet. BB date 12/12/12. Gusher bottle, huge white foam while the reddish brown beer slowly appears. Pleasant aroma of malt vinegar, also some caramel. Moderately sour and fruity flavour, probably due to its age, but not unpleasant. Also malty notes with some caramel. Minimal hops.

Bottled, 0,75L. Very clear and pale yellow color, much bubbly aspect with lively and voluminous evanescent head. Acidulous, sour and little grains aroma. Very pungent, prickly and lively mouth, overbanding sour and acid taste, it’s seem nearly cider. Unbalanced alcoholic final. Thanks to Gianluca for this one.

Codice a Barre Rossa
Bottle (50cl) from Vinmonopolet (Vika), Oslo. Huge offwhite sticky head, good retention, leaves a lot of irregular lacing. Slightly hazy rusty red colour. Spicy, dusty and yeasty ’Belgian’ aroma with gooseberry, caramel and cookie dough. Salty-sweet spicy taste (lightly christmas-like) with a more sour-bitter finish. Medium body, soft carbonation, refreshing mouthfeel. Intriguing and strangely successful brew that for me worked best when quite chilled.

Codice a Barre Rossa
Bottle, 75cl corked. An unclear, amber beer topped by a finger-thick off-white head. Some dried fruits and caramel in the aroma, some lemony notes and a pleasant spiced touch. Caramel, succade, dried fruits and a hint of honey, with spiced notes in the flavor. Dry, with soft carbonation. Dry and bitter finish. A pleasant one, smooth and tasteful. 121005

Amber hazy colour and average head. Smell caramel and roasted malt. Taste caramel, quite sweet. Not bad....too expensive imho, it doesn’t woth it in my opinion. I don’t like the transparent glass of the bottle.

Yellow little hazy colour and average head, vanishing fast. Smell some hops and lemon, taste too lemonish, with a cornish background. Carbonation like a sparkling wine. Not bad, but average....and too expensive, it is not worth it in my opinion. And I don’t like the transparent glass of the bottle. UPDATE 18/09/2014: I have drunk other 2 bottles (well, I opened them)...both of them infected, sour/tart smell, acetic...these are the last I try.

Bottle, shared with BBGTC , Foffern and Gunnar. Another hazy nut-hued Italian beer with a medium creamy head up for rating. Oh well. Aroma is mild wooden brett-like tones, caramel, hints of vinegar and nuts. Strange, but OK somehow. Taste is nuts, caramel, grain husks, hints of wood and brett again. Mild, sweet and strange, but fairly drinkable. Watery palate, which pulls down the score a bit.

0.5l clear, corked bottle shared with The Tasting Crew. What a strange beer, and I haven’t even opened the bottle yet. Anyhow, it pours a cloudy amber-copper colored thing with a small off-white top. Smells really strange this :-/ Is it bad or is it supposed to smell like this? I’m really not sure. Light woody with something that reminds me of a mixture between chemically washed oven that has been standing on for the first time after you’ve cleaned it, rotten meat and ancient vinegar. What a strange experience? The taste is really soapy and spicy. Uhg.. Medicinal old band aid with hints of English library. Do I like it? I really don’t know! Please help me understand this beer, cause I have no idea what this is. 26.10.2012

Codice a Barre Rossa
Bottle shared with (and courtasy of) the Bergen tasting crew and Gunnar. Has a hazy dark amber colour with a medium light beige head. A bit strange sour aroma of bitter berries, oak, licorice and some spices and caramel. Weird flavour of beetroot, cornflour, leather and some licorice, sweet berries and cranberries. Has a slick mouthfeel, and a light bitterness. A very strange beer, a special aroma and a funky taste.

On 50 cl bottle at Vinmonopolet Vika. Amber/ reddish color, good foam ( well carbonated, not a gusher- but standing still for some days). Floral aromas ( rose) and some fruitiness, red berries and nice yeast influence. Medium body & high complexity. Dry, good bitterness- good balance Very enjoyable ( completely unlike anything I’ ve tasted according to the RB style it has)

Gusher. Huge offwhite head. Amber body made hazy by small particles. Floral earthy banana aroma with wooden caramelly rhubarb notes. Dry-sweet earthy roasty taste with caramelly banana notes. Mid-to-light body. Mild, faintly powdery mouthfeel. Dry banana soft drink aftertaste with dusty earthy roasty notes, and faint astringence. Nice, very unusual, balanced and harmonic. (0.5l bottle, wine monopoly, Vika, Oslo.)
