3 Fonteinen Framboos (Framboise) 3.1
Une bouteille partagée avec SlovakSniper. 18/06/2014...06/2024.

12.7 oz bottle. Cloudy orange with brief froth. Nose is mango, honey, herbs, spring meadow and sour peach. Slick medium body with a lively tingle. Taste is dried apricot, leather, hints of butterscotch, pear, crabapple and pineapple. Wonderful depth and complexity without the sour burn. Incredible geuze. Stands alone with A&T for me.

12.7 oz bottle. Blood red with pink froth. Nose is black cherry jam, light funk and faint lemon zest. Super juicy, tart but silky. Taste is sour cherry, wild strawberry, skins and pits finishing dry with wine and wood. The most fruit forward lambic I’ve tried but not overly sweet or medicinal.

Bottle. Pours quite sparkling, clear golden with big white head. Aroma is light, leathery, hay, wheat, loads of white grapes, fruits and lemon. Taste has many green apples, fruit, white grapes, tart and funky, light mold. Bit watery body, high carbonation. Very well balanced and drinkable.

Amber pour with VERY minimal off-white head. Thank you, Adam, for sharing this! Smells like a fake sweet cherry lollipop. Not loving this aroma. Mouthfeel is weak. But the flavor is good for what this is. While there’s some sediment in this pour, this tastes like moldy cherry pie. Oxidation has definitely kicked in. It’s still drinkable and pretty solid, overall. Given that this is a faro, I’m going to be a bit more lenient with my rating...

Old notes. It’s the best Geuze I’ve ever drunk! I bought it in Bruugge’s beer shop not far from our hostel. And I’ve tasted this from tourist rubber folding glass and tried to make cooler under cold water in hostel. And this was really nice aged sour beer!

3 Fonteinen Oude Geuze (Armand & Tommy) 4.2
Bottle at RBWG 2016 big thanks to jackl for cracking a want beer. Nose us very acidic with light lemon. A bit of light diaper notes. Hazy deep orange pour. Taste is just a fantastically tart lemon with a dominant hay and barn funkiness. A light chest thump but always balanced by a malty awesomeness.

3 Fonteinen Armand’4 Oude Geuze Herfst 4.5
One of those whales that is so fun to slay. Shared with friends. Pours vyer hazy orange, large beige head that dissipates slowly with great lacing. Aroma is oaky, very oaky, basement funk, horse blanket and sweatsocks, some cheese as well creates a very very funky aroma profile. Notes of dust, lemon, field grass and more oak round things out. Flavor MUST be fully attenuated, but it feels like it has light residual sweetness. Only lightly tart, with a medium plus funk, some cheesiness to be sure, but really a delicate beer overall. Light bodied and lively, with a creamy mouthfeel. This one qualifies as GRATE.

Bottle. Smell is acid and bacon. Trite to say that it primarilly tastes like gueuze. Main characteristic is green apple but you get the barnyard and phenolic traits too. Fruity, fresh and super zingy. Lovely moussy champagne carbonation. I just wanted a bit more musty funkiness. Working my way through the main examples of this style and Cantillon still tops the table for me.

Poured from bottle into a tulip. Pours hazy straw color with a big foamy white head. Aroma of funk, sour notes, and fruit. Taste is clean but perfect amounts of tart, light fruit notes, and just the right amount of funk. Awesome beer.

3 Fonteinen Zwet.be 4.1
From Hoppy House Assemblage à fermentation mixte à rapprocher d’une Oud Bruin Dégustation évolutive magnifique.

Bottle at Herman Belgian Bar. Almost black with a small beige head. Aroma has chocolate, coffee and slight tartness. Taste is roasted with pumpernickel bread, dark chocolate, slight tartness and also some raspberry/fruit/cherry notes. Light verging on medium body, high soft carbonation, smooth then dry mouth feel. Tart fruity after taste.

Really interesting beer! I’ve had a sour stout before and sour stout/porter is really something I’d like to see more of.

3 Fonteinen Oude Geuze 4.4
A wild wild orgy of brettanomyces lactobacillus pediococcus and acetobacter. They are all here wearing unmalted wheat, at a large wooden barrel. (Chestnut or oat). A well balanced acrobatic of a spontaneous fermentation. Quite strong combination of hardcore, funky, sour gueuze with smooth maltiness and hint of sweetness in the finish makes this the most quaffable of the ’oude’ gueuzes.I have another bottle and i am planning to drink it at 10 years.

3 Fonteinen Oude Kriekenlambik 3.7
(Draught at Akkurat, Stockholm, 30 Dec 2015) Dark red colour with frothy, pink head. Fruity, sourish nose with notes of cherries, citrus, grapefruit, red berries and stable. Fruity, tart taste with cherries, citrus, sour grapes, grapefruit and a dry finish with a fresh acidity. Medium body, quite dry. Fresh and tasty with a balanced cherry character and a fresh acidity. Very nice.

3 Fonteinen Hommage 4.3
Like Framboos, looks like freshly poured sangria; somewhere between dark pink and plum, with some frothy pink head at first. Medium body, nicely carbonated. On the nose, the funky barnyard smells alternate with jammy fruit. Cherry sits at the front of the taste, followed by raspberry and wine vinegar. Then, white wine fruits - citrus, light peach, gooseberry and so on. Dry finish. Possibly my favourite beer of this type, but these really occupy a strange place between beer, wine and fruit juice. Crazy stuff.

3 Fonteinen Framboos (Framboise) 3.8
Bottle bought DEC/2015, consumed, JAN/2016: Dated 2014. AROMA: Intense, subdued Brett, APPEARANCE: Pinkish, pinkish head. Medium carbonation. TASTE: With all due respect, for the money one would expect the utmost incredible beverage and I’m not saying it isn’t exceptional. However, I just felt that when you hold a beverage with such high regard it’s not easy to meet the expectations of the imbiber. OK, so it was like drinking raspberry jam, however quite sour. PALATE: Imagine slightly watering down raspberry jam, thick consistency, cloying. Decadent. OVERALL: Going to extremes does not a good brew make. Yes, I’m glad to have tried it but going mad and adding ridiculous amounts of fruit isn’t going to make things taste better, however I do get the feeling that there is a pressure on the brewery to go to such lengths. All fans of the brewery and style should certainly try it once though it’s not an something I will crave and I see why it’s so limited.

2013 Vintage. AROMA: Quite subdued, fresh, tropical fruits. APPEARANCE: Golden, hazy, thin white head, little to no carbonation. TASTE: Cloying yet very refreshing, quite sour, very well balanced, drinkable (very). Due to lack of carbonation oaky notes seem to come through more than the usual 3F blend. PALATE: Long lasting citrus notes, very moreish. Delicious. OVERALL : Gorgeous, yet another superb offering from 3F. For your hardcore Gueuze lovers.

375ml bottle at home as ’3 Fonteinen Oude Geuze Golden Blend’, bottled Feb 2011 at 6%. So 5 years old at this stage. Vibrant orange, totally clear, highly sparkling, big foamy creamy head endures. Aroma is lemon, peachy, musty souring fruits, a touch of vinegar. Body is medium to light, soft carbonation, a bit foamy to start with. Taste is zingy and bright with lemon, sherbet, souring nectarines, a little mint. Potent flavours but only a touch of acidity. Very nice.

Bottle, 2011 and 2014 vintages. Deep purple pink pour, with a white pinkish head. Huge raspberry, sour, puckery, seedy raspberry jam, hay, barnyard funk, lemon, and yogurt. Good, but is this really the highest rated fruit lambic? I would like to try it again :)

3 Fonteinen Armand’4 Oude Geuze Herfst 4.5
750 ml bottle
Rating #3,400. Sometimes when you go out of your way to acquire rare beers they take on expectations and a mystique that are impossible to live up to. This one stubbornly manages to not only meet them but exceed them in many ways. At the current going rate I doubt I will ever get a chance to try the rest of the Armand’4 series but if this is the worst of the bunch I hope I do some day.

Aroma / Appearance - A deep caramel base remains mostly free of sediment as the bottle’s contents are carefully poured into the glass. Carbonation, while present, remains elusive to the eye due to the color of the beer. Sweaty socks, blue cheese, and citrus vinegar keynote a remarkable profile that might put off people who are not into sour beers - don’t share this one with your friend who just getting into the hobby until you’ve broken them in with a few other more accessible lambics. LIkewise if slightly cheesy sours that reek of stale hops don’t float your boat look for the latest vinegar in a bottle. Otherwise savor something truly remarkable.

Flavor / Palate - The musky of old cheddar cheese being pulled from a cave after years of aging hammers the palate. Dusty sweat socks left in a locked gym for a few weeks heightens the funk. George Clinton couldn’t do much to make this more funky. Old stale malts complete the trifecta that makes it a benchmark few lambics can aspire to reach. Unlike the brightness of Hommage or the sparkling nature of Framboos this lambic resonates with the funk of Belgian farmland more than any other 3F I can recall. If you are looking to dump a bottle of any other seasons please let me know.

Bottle: Poured a murky reddish color male with large foamy head with limited retention. Aroma of funky barnyard notes, cherry, oak and tart notes is pretty singular and awesome. Taste is dominated by cherry, tart notes, oak, plenty of funky barnyard notes with some light vinous/vinegar notes. Body is pretty full with OK carbonation. Enjoyable beer but also quite unique in its level of complexity.

Pour dark n’ deep ruby red, with a very small light pink head. Aroma has plenty of sour cherries, almost some candied cherries, some mineral notes in here as well - plenty of iron like notes. Slight green apples. Taste is actually quite sweet up front, but is definitely dominantly sour.. I remembered this as having a longer and more sour aftertaste. Watery body, with the slightest of oily texture, and a rather flat carbonation. I don’t know if it’s me, but this is a 2012 batch, and I think it has become less sour, less sparkly, less "over the top" - still tasty tho..
