12 ounce bottle (?)
After sitting in the cellar for long enough I broke this out during the 4th of July holidays. The hallmark of a top notch 3F beer was about as subtle as the people shooting off firecrackers and other fireworks. It would be great to try this on draft some time should I ever make a return visit to Belgium.

Aroma / Appearance - The deep carbonated base glimmers with evident bubbles and life. A yellowing ivory head hints at decaying sunbleached fragments of paper. Vinegar and funk power the aroma which is more lambic than porter by now. In particular sweat socks and yeast overwhelm any aspects of malt, coffee, or chocolate.

Flavor / Palate - Funky chocolate bleaches the tongue clean with sparkling bubbly brightness. Nuttiness then blooms in a way that defines a whole new style. If lambic porters were a thing this would be the exemplar. I might still seek out their more traditional sours but I would certainly present this to someone who thinks all dark beer is heavy and tastes like Guinness just to get a reaction. Afterwards I would finish the remaining 10 ounces.

3 Fonteinen Intense Red Oude Kriek
Huge thanks to Travlr! Second time drinking this, first time rating. This is a class unto its own. Deep ruby red. So deeply red but also clear. Nuts. Aroma is a bit subdued but dusty. Med-full bodied and exploding with cherry flavor. Both ripe cherries but especially cherry preserves. Slight medicinal cherry flavor but doesn’t distract. This is an excellent beer.

A really great bottle of Drie Fonteinen Gueuze but I couldn’t have ever told you this was some super special port barrel megawhale because it just tastes like a nice bottle of slightly cheesy gueuze.

Very nice combination of the darker roasted/chocolate aromas and the fruity sweet-sourness of the yeast. Even though it is a dark beer, I found it quite refreshing and easy to drink. If you like your beers a bit sour, you should definitely try this one.

3 Fonteinen Cuvée Armand & Gaston
Bottle shared in London - big thanks to Kenworth. Pours unclear orange-gold with a creamy, white head. The aroma holds musty citrus, lemon, aged wood, light grass. Light sweet flavour with mellow acidity, lemony tang, woody dryness, lemon peel. Light bodied with massaging carbonation. Drying on the finish, more lemon peel, damp wood, subtle fresh grass, some citric bite, a little acidity in the throat. Great stuff.

3 Fonteinen Cuvée Armand & Gaston
Bottle thanks to Ken! It pours cloudy rich gold with a thick, foamy white head. The aroma is rich, farty, sulphur, funk, barnyard, hay, dirt, must, bread and cereal. The taste is crisp, tart upfront, gooseberry, whitecurrant, white grape, freshly squeezed lemon, green apple skin, lively acidity, vinous, wood, musty funk and barnyard with a dry finish. Medium body and high, foamy carbonation. Aroma is pretty filthy, but tastes rather good. A beer of two halves. Hopefully will improve with age. Good fun anyhow.

Cork pops right after It’s uncaged.. Pours a somewhat cloudy orange with a lasting white head. The nose is just wonderfully lemonny and I even get some stone fruits. Taste is sour and dry but with sweet undertones and a great mineral citrussy finish. Really ballanced flavours already and a great mouthfeel. The aftertaste is long and totally morish. Better than expected and expectations were pretty high.

10th Dec 2015 bottling at home. Cork flew out. This one is insanely carbed. Poured deep golden with a thick billowy head which retains with a thick ring. Aroma is classic 3F minerality but with more sweetness that usual, some strawberry even. Taste is full of lemon with some mild sulphur. Bracing sourness. With that amount of carb this is clearly going to be a successor to A&T. Look forward to revisiting in a few years. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours a deep rich honey gold. With white head. Some cheese funk, red pepper spice, and cidery aroma. A little sweet red peppers up front, some mild apple cider character, some sour/tart hay. It’s not too harsh or acidic. It’s a touch citrusy. Actually, very pleasant to drink in that it’s a little light. In some ways, it reminds me of a less harsh Iris. It’s a little thin too. There’s a faint bitterness. Lots of things going on. I’m not sure this is my favorite gueuze, but it’s still solid.

33 cl beer via Craig (thanks!), served at cellar temperature in a tulip glass.

App.: Very deep brown with some mahogany highlights and a fair mocha head. Aroma: Rich milk chocolate, with some tart cherries behind that, a little funk, definitely a sour note, sort of a creamy/dairy note, nice. Palate: Medium body, very creamy carbonation. Flav.: Milk chocolate and tart cherries, some sweeter cherry as well, some straight-up dark-roasted malt, a bit more porter-like than the nose in terms of malt; dry with very light tartness and a milk chocolate, roasted malt and cherry finish.

Quite good.

May ’16. A 0.375 l bottle. It poured nice, hazy orange body with medium sized head. A bit skunky leather and sour toffee aroma over typical sharp apple, even citrus fruitiness. Flavor was both sour and bitter, apple, vinegar, citrus, smoother caramel or just biscuit, with a little bit of leather and oak wood. Medium body with long, astringent finish. Pretty nice, especially the grapefruit/sour orange note, but not really a complex lambic. Expected more.

Opal, golden (EBC8), frothy white head. Aromas of barnyard funk, musky wet horseblanket, citrus zest, juicy red apple, faint notes of green banana & unripe apricot, wet earth, leather moist wood - rather complex. Fine perlage, tangy, mellow texture with a medium body. Very light sweetness upfront with a well balanced sourness & tartness waving over the palate with stone fruit flavours.
