glennmastrange	4 3 Fonteinen Oude Geuze Cuvée Armand & Gaston Bottle. Moderate hay and light hay for the malt and hops, heavy to harsh musty basement and soap for the yeast, with white wine, crushed grape seeds and vinegar in the background. Head is large, frothy, white, with excellent lacing and is mostly lasting. Color is murky dark amber. Flavor starts heavily acidic and sour, then finishes heavily acidic, sour and bitter. Palate is on the lighter side of medium, dry, with a fizzy carbonation and a dry finish. A sharp biting sour Geueze Lambic. Saturday, May 4, 2024

Alengrin	4.1 3 Fonteinen / Hill Farmstead Resonance The result of Shaun Hill, brewer of the famed Hill Farmstead brewery in New England, visiting the Lambik-O-Droom in Lot, Belgium in October 2019 with the tenth anniversary of his brewery in mind; the result is a 3 Fonteinen geuze Hill helped assemble here in Belgium, a symbol of the years of mutual respect between both companies. Bottle sampled at 3 Fonteinen’s “Bespelingen van het Lot” event last weekend at the Lambik-O-Droom. Moussey, medium thick, snow white, opening head on an initially clear, warm old-golden robe with orangey glow and some disparate sparkling, turning more hazy and peachy further on. Aroma of dry wooden boards, old dry peach kernels, lightly toasted sunflower seeds, cracked leather, lemon juice, dry haystack, tamarillo leaf, jute bags, unripe apricot, hint of old cigarette shag, touch chlorine (Boon?). Crisp onset, quite dry and low in fruity esters in spite of green apple, tamarillo and persimmon hints, lemony sourness at the edges with medium carbonation (actually a tad on the soft side for a geuze); lean body, dry cereally and somewhat old cracker- and rusk-like core, very smooth with further drying lactic acidity but nowhere too harsh or acetic, even if lively and pungent. Strong tannic woodiness and dry-leathery Brett effects in the finish, lingering unripe stonefruit, green apple and lemon effects – all remaining dry and supple at the same time. Elegant, somewhat ‘slender’, dry and lemony geuze, with the typical core features of Boon, 3 Fonteinen and Lindemans lambic more or less recognisable and well in harmony with each other; in a metaphorical kind of way, the sheer elegance and smoothness of this particular geuze reminds of Hill Farmstead’s typical house style… Nice, crisp and distinct, glad I tasted this one - but some additional ageing could probably improve it further. Alengrin	3.9 3 Fonteinen x Ognostro Druif: Aglianico Grape lambic made with the pomace of Italian Aglianico grapes, a very old and relatively unknown southern-Italian ‘cépage’, macerated in old lambic. Moussey, pale off-pinkish, open head on a misty vermillion beer with deep copper glow – paler than typical for a grape lambic in general (at least one that is made of blue grapes), but normal considering only pomace was used, and frankly a beautiful colour to behold. Aroma of dry grape skins and grape seeds, dry crumbling earth, rosehip tea, minerals, halfripe red plum, red apple peel, wet leather, rough bluegrass, faint swimming pool, Martini Rosso and wet rubber notes in the background. Crisp onset, slender but effective fruitiness, clearly more grape skin astringency than grape flesh juiciness, side hints of red plum, cherry tomato and red apple, carbonation very active and very minerally – with almost limestone or ‘petit granit’-like effects. This minerality persists through a lactic, dry-tart, grape skin-coloured middle, ending in warming vermouth-like alcohol, where lemony sourness continues to add dryness. Astringent, dry yet still elegant and fruity ‘pomace lambic’, very minerally and distinct; not lacking in complexity, and even though I personally still prefer full-grape lambics, it must be recognized that pomace, when in good hands, has the potential to create beautiful dry fruit lambics (as Cantillon and others have also shown already in past years). Aroma is cherries, wood, some tartness. Flavour is wooden, some floral, mild spiciness with some cherries and herbal tones. Nicely dry palate. davidezdonz	4 3 Fonteinen Speling Van Het Lot XI.xi: Kriek/Mirabelle A 750ml corked and caged bottle, blend°14, season 22/23, bottled on 7th December 2022. Poured into a Tilquin stemmed glass. It was a very nice ruby red colour with a one finger pinkish head that dissipated quickly, and left some nice but sparse lacing. Aromas lightly tart, cherries, grape skin, plum, and lemon zesty notes. Tastes sour, tart, acidic, cherries, plum, lemon juice, with berry gummy candy sweet notes. Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Overall, nice cherry and plum fruitiness, but the sourness and acidity felt a touch too high and not as balanced as it could be. Some berry gummy candy sweet notes here and there helped a bit, and especially appeared as it warmed, but doesn’t balance it entirely. Monday, April 29, 2024
b3shine	4.2 3 Fonteinen Druif / Kriek Dornfelder 750 ml bottle to stemless wine glass, shared with the Mrs. Pours a translucent cherry with thinner eggshell head that dissipates quickly and completely. Smells and tastes of a robust blend of grape and cherry followed by still prominent notes of oak and funk. Mouthfeel is medium-bodied and pleasantly tart from the berries along with a nice citric presence. Tasty stuff. Sunday, April 28, 2024

Aroma brings out plenty of tart cherries, sherry, subtle cinnamon, and a touch of murky funk. Flavour is moderately funky, with plenty of earthiness, subdued tart cherries and even more subtle spices. Not getting the sherry. A bit muffled and murky, but reasonable enough. davidezdonz	4 3 Fonteinen Honingbes A 750ml corked and caged bottle, blend°103, season 21/22, bottled on 12th August 2022. Poured into a Tilquin stemmed glass. It was a deep red colour with a slight orange tinge, and a half finger pinkish head that dissipated fairly quickly but settled to a ring around the glass, while leaving some lacing. Aromas are tart, mixed berries, black currant, green vines, blueberry, blackberry, woody, with light funky notes. Tastes sour, tart, mixed berries, blueberry, blackberry, black currant, green vines, with light notes of wood and funk. Light to medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Overall, I have not tried honeyberries before, but it seems to taste like a cross between black currant, blueberries and blackberries. The green viney notes were a bit raw, so the berries weren’t jammy sweet. But it is different, and worth a try. Wednesday, April 24, 2024
