3.3 Olde Burnside Ten Penny Ale Draft. It poured a murky brown with a tight off-white head and lacing. The malty aroma has hints of caramel and a light pine in the taste. It is medium bodied with a smooth finish. Tuesday, November 28, 2017

3 Olde Burnside Hop't Scot Reviewed from notes. The appearance was a soft hazy burnt orange almost amber color with a thin wisp of a little white head. No lace. The aroma had some dried floral components with a super dried bready malt. The flavor added in some earthy hop spice and crisped up that bready malt to seem to play with a moderate herbal quality. Aftertaste was fully dry with a sticky bitterness. The finish was pretty bitter. The palate was roughly medium bodied with a decent sessionability about it. Moderate carbonation. ABV felt fine. Overall, what the heck is a Scottish IPA? I’m confused, but why does every nation think they need to do their own version of an IPA. Looking forward to the day of the Antarctica IPA. That’s what I’m really waiting for. Thursday, May 11, 2017

3.6 Olde Burnside American Red Reviewed from notes. The appearance was a semi-burnt amber color with a finger’s worth of white foamy head that dissipated fairly quick. Light lace. The aroma had a thick caramel/toffee sweetness with some earthy to citrusy hops. Low bitterness. The flavor copied the aroma fairly decently. Little bit of roast at the end. Flowed evenly into the aftertaste and on into the finish. The feel was between a light to medium on the body with a fair sessionability about it. Carbonation felt fine. ABV felt as projected by the brewer. Overall, pretty good red ale, almost an Irish red ale, but just a good all around beer to take down with a burger. Friday, May 5, 2017

3.2 Olde Burnside Dirty Penny Bottle from Bert’s Slightly hazy auburn brown with a decent sized bubbly off white head. Rich caramel and hints of chocolate with bits of earth and fruit. Nothing extraordinary here. Tuesday, September 29, 2015

2.9 Olde Burnside Ten Penny Ale Bottle from Bert’s Slightly hazy golden amber color with a decent sized long lasting off white head. Rich caramel notes with plenty of apple-y berry fruitiness. Sweet, kind of thin, a bit bubbly, not horrible, but probably not something I’d seek out again. Tuesday, September 29, 2015

2 Olde Burnside Hop't Scot 12 oz. bottle from Prost Beer and Wine, paid $1.75. Date on the bottle reads 8/7/2015, yet not stating if it’s best by or bottle on. Massively over-carbonated, like it had to sit a good 4 minutes after 6 oz of beer was poured. Aroma is odd. Thickly. Read malts with floral hops and pepper / spice. The flavor is a mild abrasive floral note in a watery texture. The floral hops are out of balance. It’s almost like drinking some kind of herbal extract. This is very unpleasant. After 3 oz this brew hit the bottom of the sink drain. After its all said and done I’m guessing the date of 8/ 2015 was best by. Saturday, September 26, 2015

3.3 Olde Burnside American IPA At the source: Pours orange with a white head. Aroma is citrusy, tropical fruit, with not too much malt backbone. Lingering hoppy aftertaste. This was a pretty standard IPA, but I could not complain about the quality. Saturday, August 8, 2015

3.8 Olde Burnside Ten Penny Ale Clear copper pour with lasting, clingy off-white top. One of the strangest smelling beers I’ve encountered - intriguing though, with toast, earth and something resembling fruit. Flavor is similar, though malty with a fairly dry finish. Decent and interesting. Thursday, May 28, 2015

2.2 Olde Burnside Hop't Scot 12 oz. bottle - very disappointing. I would never have guessed that this was intended to be an English IPA style. I’ve enjoyed a few other Olde Burnside products but this one had no taste appeal at all and no resemblance to other English style IPA’s I’ve tasted. Tuesday, February 3, 2015

3.4 Olde Burnside Mons Meg On tap at the brewery. Pours amber with a lacy off-white head. Aroma of citrusy and floral hops, pale and caramel malts, and some toast/bread. Flavor the same with the strong malts sort of taking away from the hops. Average texture. Not a bad beer but the malts could be less present. Sunday, January 18, 2015

2.8 Olde Burnside Ten Penny Ale Growler shared by someone at Natifest (from notes). Pours a slightly hazy golden orange color with a small off white head. 1.9 Olde Burnside Ten Penny Ale Old Burnside Brewing Company Ten Penny Ale. Growler, 50 W Naitfest ‘14 APPEARANCE: golden color, perfectly see-through. No head to speak of. NOSE: not much of anything. FLAVOR: very much a lager type flavor. It wants to be an ale, but I’m not feeling it. I feel a bit of the scotch flavor in it. But only a bit. NOTES: Honestly, this is not my favorite style (straight up ale, or scotch). This beer is ok, not awesome. Friday, August 8, 2014

3.3 Olde Burnside Ten Penny Ale Thanks to John @ Natifest / Cincinnati OH --- Medium amber, solid rim head, thin streaks of lace. Taste is sweet caramel malt that grows a little stronger in the palate, then adds light hops for solid balance in a lingering finish. A simple brew, but one that works well, particularly regarding the caramel malt. Sunday, August 3, 2014

2.8 Olde Burnside Ten Penny Ale 64 oz. growler shared by John at Natifest - thanks again! A couple new CT breweries for me. Looks pretty light for the style, like the recent attempt at a Scottish ale by MadTree. Aroma of soap, tea, florals, toast, straw, and faint toasted sugar. Flavor of straw, toast, earth, and grains. Medium-bodied, with moderate carbonation and a smooth mouthfeel. Drinks more like a blonde ale than a Scottish ale, based on my experience with the style. Just a straightforward, smooth-drinking ale without much going on. Sunday, August 3, 2014

2 Olde Burnside Amazing Grace Ale Poured from a 12 ounce bottle. The pour fills the glass with foam, carbonation issue. The aroma is tart berries, cherries, stone fruits, some soft caramel note on the back end. The flavor is tart, acetic, caramel maltiness comes through in the finish. Footbalmed. Infected. 3 Olde Burnside Ten Penny Ale Tap at Draught 55. Pours murky reddish brown. Nose is sweet malt and red fruits. Tastes of sour berries, light cherry, metallic, barley and earthy. Odd aftertaste that is drying and artificial. Thin palate. Saturday, July 5, 2014
