3.4 Mayflower Lancashire Stout Gift from a colleague. Aroma is roasty with coffee and dark berries. Dark but thin looking - a cola tint. Creamy light beige head. Medium bitter. Coffee and charcoal. Berry sourness on the periphery. Into the finish there's a hint of creamy sweetness alongside the charcoal. Medium bodied. Creamy. Average carbonation. Dry astringent finish. Decent stuff. 3.3 Mayflower Swinley Gold Bottle from a colleague. Fruit and berries in the malty aroma. Amber. Bubbly translucent white head. Medium bitter with a fruity sour edge. Underlying malts. Light. Slick. Fizzy carbonation. Dry astringent finish. For a low ABV session bitter it's got character and a kick. Thursday, December 5, 2019

2.9 Mayflower Lemon Head Bottle from a colleague. Aroma does have a lemon element as to be expected but you've also got boiled veg and marker pen. Pale copper gold. Creamy translucent white head soon recedes. Light sour. Underlying malts and butterscotch. Light bodied. Thin. Fizzy carbonation. Long dry slightly sickly finish. Doesn't work for me - the light bitter and citra don't sync. Sunday, December 1, 2019

3.3 Mayflower Douglas Valley Ale Bottle from a colleague. Earthy malty aroma with some underlying citrus. Pale brown tinged gold. Frothy translucent white head. Medium bitter. Develops a sour edge. Light bodied. Thin. Soft-fizzy carbonation. Long dry astringent finish. As it states on the bottle it's a hoppy gold. No complaints about that. Sunday, December 1, 2019

3.3 Mayflower Wigan Bier Gift from a colleague. Malty aroma with a fruity edge. Amber gold. Fluffy white head. Light-medium bitter. Underlying sweetness. Some sourness in the sweet fruit. Malty core. Light-medium bodied. Slick/thin. Soft-fizzy carbonation. Slightly astringent finish. Oldschool and malty but enough fruit to keep it interesting. Tuesday, November 26, 2019

2.5 Mayflower Douglas Valley Ale Cask (handpump) at Great British Beer Festival, day 3, on 4 August 2011. Amber colour. Rather grainy, cereal malt aroma with a whiff of butterscotch. Cleaner on the palate with touches of fruit, toffee and just a dash of earthy bitterness. Not really my scene - I really prefer an "ordinary" bitter to show a firmer grip. 3.4 Mayflower Lancashire Stout Cask (GBBF2011, Wed) Mostly black, lovely spongy beige head. Lovely roast aroma - I’m expecting a great stout. Alas the taste disappoints, it’s a touch watery, and almost minerally. This was right after the wonderful Great Oakley Abbey Stout (5%), so perhaps the 4% nature of this was being shown up a bit. Finish is roasty but it’s a dulled feel, a bit burnt, but flat. Sunday, August 21, 2011

3 Mayflower Dandelion and Burdock Cask (gravity dispense), Cambridge Beer Festival, May 2006. Well, it had to be tried didn’t it? And what a weird one it is. It does indeed taste strongly of dandelion & burdock - a drink I’d not had for years and thought I’d forgotten the flavour of. That means cream soda and bubblegum. It doesn’t really taste much of beer at all. This leaves me in something of a quandary as to marking. It certainly does what it says on the tin, but I’m not sure that is appropriate in a beer or that I like it too much. However, it does achieve what it sets out to do most effectively so I’ll mark on that basis. Sunday, June 4, 2006

3 Mayflower Dandelion and Burdock Cask conditioned - gravity dispense - Cambridge BF. A dark brown coloured beer with a cheap supermarket Dandelion and Burdock aroma mixed in with Bazooka Joe bubblegum. The taste is similar with some cheap cola thrown in. All of this makes it sound pretty poor, but actually it’s drinkable and does what it says on the tin. Not sure beer needs to have these flavours though. Thursday, May 25, 2006
