2.2 Spilker Sonar Pale Ale Thus far, none of Spilker’s hop-focused beers have satisfied me. My reasoning is simple: not enough hops. Saturday, September 5, 2015

2.6 Spilker Sonar Pale Ale Draft. A- Citrus, pine, salt water. A- Amber color, hazy liquid, off white head. T- Pine, funky, musty, citrus. P- Medium body, average texture, average carbonation, slightly bitter finish. O- Felt like a pale ale that had been sitting open in a basement for a while. Just a little bit off. 2.2 Spilker Hopluia Yeesh. I thought the Founders ReDANKulous I just reviewed had an unwieldly name. The Founders got a pass because it at least delivers on its silly name. There’s no such redemption for Hopluia. For me, this beer was not especially hoppy or praiseworthy. I wanted far more crispness, bitterness, and aromatics. Damn shame, too. The glass bottles of this beer are pretty cool. Too bad looks aren’t everything. In better news, names aren’t everything, either. Tuesday, August 25, 2015

3.3 Spilker Sonar Pale Ale Pours light reddish brown. Pretty assertive hopping for a pale ale. Hop aroma is pronounced citrus with a some earthy, well balanced flavors to round it out. Tuesday, August 11, 2015

3.2 Spilker Sonar Pale Ale Amber pour. Taste is pine hops and a tiny bit of malt. Finishes with a light bitterness. Body is a bit watery but the lively carbonation make up for it a bit. This reminds me of a bolder version of Fat Tire. Nice offering from Spilker! Saturday, July 11, 2015

3 Spilker Hopluia On tap at Crescent Moon 5-2-15. A mostly clear copper with an off white head and decent lacing. Light aroma of citrus and grass but not much else. Taste leans toward balance with some malt sweetness and citrus and earthiness from the hops. Unimpressive and average. Friday, May 8, 2015

2.7 Spilker Hopluia 22 oz bomber. Tasted on 5/16/14. Beer from Beertopia Omaha, NE. The aroma was almost sour with a tart grape or sour apple. Not sure the age of thus beer but wasn't hoppy at all on the aroma. The taste was again fairly bland for a beer called Hopluia. I wasn't a fan of this beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone Friday, May 16, 2014

2.8 Spilker Hopluia Tried at Omaha draft beer week. Hopluia uses a rare method of dry hopping that works in the secondary fermentation and is brewed with two different yeast strains. The result is a hoppy beer of immense taste. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone Tuesday, February 18, 2014

2.9 Spilker Hopluia For having the name Hopluia as well as dry hopping, you don't get much hoppiness out of it. Smooth finish no real bitterness. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone Wednesday, October 2, 2013

3.6 Spilker Hopluia On tap at Beertopia. Pour is golden orange with a frothy white head and great lacing. Sweet caramelly, tropical fruity, oranges, mangos, light grass, and bready aroma. Taste is well-balanced and easy drinking - grapefruits, orange peel, caramel, grassy, and doughy with a lightly bitter finish. Medium body with high carbonation. Not bad. 3.6 Spilker Hopluia Gold pour, white head. Quite a bit of hops up front in this one. And a nice yeasty, creamy quality that surprised me. Really a pretty decent APA Thursday, September 26, 2013

3.5 Spilker Hopluia I got this in a bomber at a Hy-Vee grocery store. This was really undercarbonated and the beer was pretty flat after a few moments. No head retention at all. Def has Simcoe hops it it but couldn’t really well what else, maybe Columbus. Pretty dark for a pale but it is not cloyingly sweet from crystal malts. Would be a pretty solid beer if tweaked a bit. 3.2 Spilker Hopluia Orange-amber with a white head. The aroma is full of orange and pine with some biscuit malt. The flavor is similar with the lighter orange notes coming through up front. The bitterness is balanced out by the biscuit malt. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation. Sunday, July 21, 2013

2.1 Spilker Hopluia Bottle: Clear reddish-copper color. Hints of hops in the aroma and the flavor is all down hill, the wrong hill. Overly citrus in the flavor and flavors of battery acid. Awful astringent aftertaste. It is the opposite of Hopluia. It should be Hop Damned. Yuck. Sunday, December 30, 2012

3.9 Spilker Hopluia Although listed as an IPA, I consider this a pale ale. I don’t know what hops are used in this, but it is reminiscent of an English pale al. There is a fair amount of bubble gum aroma and flavor. Body is light-medium and carbonation is low-low medium. Color is copper-amber and beautifully clear. A delicious pale ale that I look for every time I am near the brewery! Sunday, July 8, 2012

3 Spilker Hopluia Draft. Poured clear copper color with an average frothy off-white head that lasted with good lacing. Moderate citrus hop aroma. Medium body with a slick texture and soft carbonation. Moderate bittersweet flavor with a moderate bittersweet finish of medium duration. Soft good brew. Wednesday, July 4, 2012

2.8 Spilker Hopluia pale copper with one finger head. i love hoppy IPAs, and picked this up, expecting lots of hops. hoppiness is definitely underwhelming for a beer with hop in the name, probably more of a pale ale, and fairly boring. Thursday, May 24, 2012

2.9 Spilker Hopluia Bottle picked up at Beertopia Omaha, opened in Exira, Iowa. Clear, copper orange appearance with a small off white head that has pretty poor head retention. A bit spicy, organic, light earthy hoppy aroma with some light citrus and spice notes. A bit tangy, fairly spicy, organic hoppy, lightly toasty flavor. Fairly low carbonation. 2.9 Spilker Hopluia 16 oz bottle: Pours a light copper, with a thin head that dissipates quickly. Aroma is pine and citrus hops, bready malts. Taste is of dry hop flavors with light citrus. Palate was thin but very smooth. Overall this was a thin IPA, smooth but not hop forward. The dry hopping seems to have been done with very mellow hops, dry finish. Saturday, February 25, 2012

2.7 Spilker Hopluia Courtesy of John K; thank you sir. This was poured at a good temperature, with a fine, off white head that settles out and some lace. Color is an almost clear, slightly dark yellow. Aroma is malt, beer, hop, fruit. Flavor is like nose, and for a dry hopped, IPA very inadequate. Body and carbonation ok. Finish is like flavor and on the short side. Thursday, December 22, 2011
